I am always enamored by people who sub ohm, max amp, quad coil and try to get these clouds so dense they remind one of fog rolling into the San Francisco bay. I have no desire to try, I am perfectly content with a 2ohm coil at 6.5Watts. I am curious about why people push the limits.

For me, it also seems dangerous. I have a pretty good grasp on what's going on, and taking a high power battery, and basically bridging it with as little resistance as you can get away with and sticking it to your face. Some people would call this crazy.

Why? Is the flavor intensified? Is the vapor warmer? Or is it like with any hobby, that people want to see the extreme end of the hardware?

I just want to hear why, out of complete curiosity.

I think that's about it. Plus, if you build a coil and can harness something as powerful as electricity as safely as possible and it actually works, it's a feeling of accomplishment.

I dont do all that stuff but I do like heavy thick vapor;

the reasons would be

1: after 3 decades of smoking, it's reasuring; I mean as in pretend smoke
2: it's also reasuring in another sense- hardware has its problems and when the hardware doesnt work you get no fog; so seeing the fog is reassurng that the hardware is working.
3: i dont vape nicotine, (at least not my main vape) so the only thing left to get is taste and fog; and so far i havent found much tastewise either.

There is a difference in a draw having more throat hit vs having a more saturated throat hit. When I inhale a draw of thicker, fuller vapor, I can feel a full, thick, creamy saturated throat hit. That feeling is distinct and not dependent on the intensity with which it "hits" the throat. It's sort of like taking a big sip of water vs a big sip of heavy cream - more than your taste buds can detect a difference, even though they're both large gulps of wet. there's more "body" to the TH of a fuller vapor, even if they both "hit" with the same intensity.

Thicker, fuller vapor also tends to come with thicker, fuller flavor.

These things I know from the devices I have used so far. I have done absolutely zero sub ohm vaping. I don't even own a mechanical mod. I vape around 8 watts on my vamo right now. With anything but my microcoiled genesis type atty at 1.7 ohms I am consistently fighting a vague dissatisfaction. The genesis is an AGA T2, and while I get great saturation in TH and better flavor than my protanks, I can't get the intensity of TH I want. If I turn the air inlet hole even a little off the coil, the flavor and saturation of vapor drop disproportionately much, while I get an overwhelming TH, without being able to find a happy medium.

For this reason, I am considering a venture into the sub ohm world. I've been doing a lot of reading and self educating about how to do it safely. I'm quite convinced that approached with a level head and a solid understanding of the basic behaviors of the system I will eventually put together, that I am every bit as safe with a .6 ohm dual coil as I would be talking on a cell phone.

It's fun! I use 30amp Sony batteries and rarely pull over 15 amps an always meter my coils before installation and before I put the atty on my mech so safety isn't an issue and it's fun to see what I can do. With a good balance of heat,coil surface area, wicking and airflow my Igo S will give a smoother more flavorful vape at 44 watts than my ARO at 8 watts.
