I have a 5v passthrough and a true 5v PV (GLV2) and I can tell you the passthrough is still lacking compared to the GLV2. You can get a 5v boxmod w/ batteries and a charger for about $60 with shipping. Check them out at Box Mods

OP appears to be looking for a way to try it inexpensively before deciding whether to invest in 5v equipment.

EDIT: In another post he appears to know that he wants 5V so Red's advice would seem to be spot on.

There are plans in the modder's forum for a 5v box mod... I think parts for just one run about 10 or 15 bucks over at madvapes.

This is mine from the back with the cover off. The two batteries are the little 3.7v ones that come with standard 510 passthroughs; I have since gotten some 600mah 10440's from dealextreme, 8 for $20. Heh, the batteries and charger cost more than the mod parts.

I've also got a length of copper I can put in one of the two battery slots if I want to run it at 3.7 volts. I love this little thing.

I believe the cheapest you will find is MadVapes 5 Volt 510 Manual USB Passthrough and 2 amp AC to USB Adapter, ideal for Passthroughs Together that is $26.50 plus shipping. I just added them to the cart to get a total with first class shipping and it came to $29.49. I have this combo of pass-through and wall plug myself and I like it. Now maybe as said above it isn't a true 5 volts I don't know but it is definitely a very noticeable difference from a standard 510, and I think it is a good way to test the waters of higher voltage.

thanks guys I found out I live 45 mins from Jason who owns and runs electronicstix. So i ran down there and picked up a 5v PT and the car adapter(5v 2A). It is insanely better than standard 510. However when I walked into his house he was vaping on an eGO w/LR ( blowing huge plumes of vapor btw) and he let me give it a try. OMG that is the way to go he said he gets up to 10 hrs of hard vaping. I have got to have an ego now. I have been shopping them pretty hard and still have not been able to find "the best deal". I am also considering the Riva too. Any thoughts?

If you have a true 3.7v device, I'd suggest trying an LR atty first. The difference between that configuration and a 5v device with a regular atty is negligible.

High voltage vaping is a misleading term. The combination of the voltage and the resistance of the atomizer determine the wattage being used. The formula to calculate wattage is Voltage squared / Resistance. A 3.7v device with a 1.5 ohm LR atty runs at 9.1 watts. A 5v device with a 2.5 ohm atty runs at 10 watts.

Yes, the ego and the riva both use 510 attys, though neither are 5v devices.

That is how I fly. LR atty's, a drip tip and my trusty eGo. For the long hauls I break out the 900 mah batts and kick back in the lazy boy

Between the two, the Riva is a better deal. 100% compatible, longer battery life, and usually cheaper. I'd suggest going for a true 3.7v device though. eGos and Rivas are 3.2v. The extra half volt makes a big difference (with an LR atty 3.2v only puts out 6.8 watts).
