if i ever graduate to an office with carpeted floors, then i can see a decent dna wooden mod getting used some more, but i spend most of my day in a warehouse with concrete floors and no usb ports!

(No - i'm not in a Texas jail!) What i do like about regulated devices is that you can wrap a sloppy old coil - miles away from your target and get it to work by adjusting power, which is also precisely why i like mechanicals - you have to make repeatable, accurate coils and if it's crap - well - that's your own fault!

I reckon the title was harsher than it needed to be. I love to hear opinions, and I find peoples experiences brought about from a question of this sort can fill in the blank spots I may have missed browsing the forum and google. I've already heard things I hadn't seen, the durability/circuitry, that a mech can go 50+watts easily (could have figured that one out on my own but math and me spend as little time together as possible outside a classroom).

Battery life, the DNA goes all day easy, two days is doable, and I vape allllll day. I've heard you often have to carry spare batteries around for a mech, seems to me a battery is a battery is a battery, but the DNA has a passthrough, do mechs?

I think I'd much rather swap a battery out and be on my way than have to be "tethered" to a charging port somewhere. Try doing that at a sporting event or a concert...

Okay well in that case pick up a clone and try one. Can be got on the quick at 101Vape or from the slow boat from China. May save ya $200 or so and if you like it by a real King..errrm mech..lol

I'm going to get one regardless because they are such nice pieces of machinery and craftsmanship. But no clones for me, I'd rather support the originators. Deciding where to go from there is still mind boggling, so so many awesome mechs out there. That Gus Lord a few threads down is just one example out of many (but damn its a nice example!) King huh, I'll have to open a new window and check it out :)

With these chips like the DNA series, the Naos Raptor, and the OKR-T10, is there any reason other than aesthetics to bother with a mechanical? It seems to me (and I confess, I do not have a mech, I decided to go with a DNA 30 for my first major mod), that these chipped mods have mechanicals licked when it comes to function. But I am still extremely new to the wonderful world of vaping and I would like to hear others thoughts.

So, which wins the battle, Chipped Mods, or Mech Mods?

With a mech, I can drop in a Sigelei kick, or an evolv kick, or an artisanvaping crown.
Maybe by next year I'll be able to drop in a dna-30 type kick but by then I also expect I'll be able to drop in a kick that actually comes with a screen included, and mechs would have an optional kick ring with screen space.

The same reason people look for a vamo/vtr/zmax/etc instead of an ego battery or mvp, is again a reason people look for a mech: modularity; you don't want to have to trash the whole item just because 1 little part is dead.

Excellent points Edyle! A kick with a screen, that'd be incredible!

Edit: modularity is just as big a part of why I love vaping as is the vaping itself, its such an awesome hobby, I've said it in a few other posts, but why not once more, it like lego's for adults, and I loooooved my lego's growing up!

Versatility yep -- forgot about that.

My 'vela in 18350 mode is a small package.

The vamo replacement board module comes with a screen.

The dna board comes with a screen.

So can't be hard to stick a screen on an 18mm kick.
Even if you stll have to take it out to adjust with a screwdriver, just having a screen that displays ohms, volts, and watts is extremely usefull for troubleshooting purposes.

===edit===
oh btw; maybe I should point out: I don't actually have any mechs...yet.
