Maybe by next year I'll be able to drop in a dna-30 type kick but by then I also expect I'll be able to drop in a kick that actually comes with a screen included, and mechs would have an optional kick ring with screen space.
Let's see, a Kick tube with a screen and a battery tube underneath. Congratulations, you've just reinvented the APV!

sigelei has this one, a tube that fits on the front of any 510 thread mech mod: not hard for them to take the next step and put a screen on that; might as well add two control button while they're at it. Then you can turn ANY mech into an APV whenever you want.

For me, its a twofold thing.

First part, is the vape satisfaction.

If we're talking PURELY vapor production, ie: Cloud Swag, then yeah, some of the higher wattage regulated devices can beat mechanicals.

If we're talking about the vape itself, FOR ME, a 1.8ohm coil pushing 30, 40, 50watts, is NOT the same, as a .3ohm doing the same/similar. It might look like you're putting out the same, or more vapor from the 1.8ohm build, but the vape is different.

And from what I have tried, I can't get the vape I like from a coil with that high resistance. Believe me, for practicality purposes, a box mod with dual 30amp 2600mah batteries, or better, that could provide the vape I crave all day, well that would be handy for certain situations.

The second is about the device itself. Vaping for me has become so much than just not smoking cigarettes. I am extremely happy that I actually HAVE quit smoking, I mean I truly never thought id be able too. But I have, and thats awesome. But the other part for me, are these handcrafted, smartly engineered and expertly executed ideas some of these mod makers are able to put out, that Im very much drawn too.

Im often accused of being a snob when it comes to things I like, and hey, if thats true, so be it. Life is not forever, so while Im here, Im going to enjoy the best, whenever possible. For vaping, TO ME, the best right now, is not stolen chinese counterfiets, or regulated tube and box mods, its the high end, inspired, expertly crafted mechanical mods. Actually you know what, there is an exception. I dont use it nearly at all these days, but it still falls in the same category as expertly crafted. Provari. Its probably the only non mech I wouldn't give up.

    Thats me anyway.

I don't know alot about regulated mods, current limits, etc, but I do know my mech can be extremely flexible. It appears the DNA 30 is the "hot" regulated device now?? 30 watts...? Many Mech sub-ohmers do that easily daily...my typical build for daily use is .61 ohms... around 29 watts..thats my comfort zone...but I tried a friends .15 ohm build...thats 117 Watts! How may Regulated mods can do 117 watts??? How many can easily do 30 ??

For me Mechs give me several things a regulated device doesn't.

    1) Beauty and design...take a look at at real GP Paps X, Nemesis, Stingray, Chi You, Super T ELA or a Carvela...never seen any regulated device that comes close in style!
    2) Won't be out of style next year..... It seems ever few months there is something new and better on regulated mods...My Mech mod..well..there may be new devices I want...but in function most are similar and hold up to the test of not becoming obsolete.
    3) Flexibility...many mechs have the option of using anything from a 350 to 18650 battery...
    4) Option to regulate......we can always add a kick if we want to regulate...current kicks are limited to 15w...but I'm sure that will change
    5) Durability.....its a metal tube!
    6) Dependability.....circuits fail...I can't tell ya how many friends have had Vamo's, Itaste, Siegels, etc...and they have all failed at some point...some in as little as a few months. With a mech..we have less parts to break or fail.
    7) Vapageddon....just sayin......:p

Well said JmanEspresso :thumb: . And I wholeheartedly agree with the more than just not smoking part. The first day I discovered there was more to vaping than a vision spinner and protank 2 (yeah... lol), I dived in and my mind was blown at the infinite possibilities and set-hups. I was dead set on getting a GGTS, but couldn't for the life of me find one. I started to read more about regulated mods and decided to go with Vaporsharks DNA 30. I love it and have absolutely no complaints, I didn't think I'd want a box mod after my early research, but its functionality won me over.

I however will be getting myself a nice mech for my birthday (June 5th, soooo I'll just order it as soon as I can find it lol) because they are like art you can use, and based of what I hear, they perform extremely well. I also like the finer things in life and have been laughed at by friends for opting towards nicer things rather than cheaper, different strokes for different folks I reckon.

I'm now just having a hard time narrowing it down; A GGTS is still very appealing but I think I'll add it sometime in the future. The Gus Lord looks very nice, but the safety fuse limitations bother me. The Dominus Fecit looks like a nice piece but seems to be undergoing constant fixes via upgrades. The GP Paps v3 is what I'm leaning towards most, I love the level of stealth it can achieve, and it seems to be very streamlined and problem free (open to others opinions, mods not mentioned I should check out, etc. the more information I can gather before a costly purchase the better).

Well put I agree 100%. All I wanted one of those Titanium Wizard's Apprentice Evolved 2 for was because they are really cool. Light and I think the smallest regulated mod out there but, for 250 Euros that's $500 US or there about heck no..Not worth it imo.

    Why the tribalism?
Mechs are my first true love.
Nothing will ever touch them for form factor and sheer reliability.

But what is wrong with progress and the convenience of technology?

I love vinyl records too BUT cant argue with the thousands of songs I have stuffed into my phone via MP3.

    Besides..

I give it 2 years TOPS before you can order a 100w regulated mod for 40 bucks from FT that aint half bad.

Assuming we don't see the end of days for commercial vape products I have a hard time believing mech popularity will not curtail in the near future

With these chips like the DNA series, the Naos Raptor, and the OKR-T10, is there any reason other than aesthetics to bother with a mechanical? It seems to me (and I confess, I do not have a mech, I decided to go with a DNA 30 for my first major mod), that these chipped mods have mechanicals licked when it comes to function. But I am still extremely new to the wonderful world of vaping and I would like to hear others thoughts.

So, which wins the battle, Chipped Mods, or Mech Mods?

Neither! Both have their pluses and minuses. Both may taste different to the user even with the same topper and the user can enjoy the varied tastes. Even different mechs can provide a taste difference, just as different APV's vary the taste also.
