I'd try whole flax seed,so what if she poops some of it out? She won't all of it. If you want a glossy coat or add weight just plain veg oil adds empty calories. Watch to make sure its veggie oil or you can try sunflower oil. Finding a complete feed for a special needs horse is tough and for a finicky horse even tougher. What frustrated me more than anything is there really isn't a whole lot of information out there on equine nutrition. You can ask two experts something and both say different things.

I'm thinking more of the anti-inflammatory effects of omega-3 than of a glossy coat. In spite of Penny's finicky appetite, she has a very nice coat. It must be heredity, since I haven't been the grooming maniac I always was in the past. I think vegetable oil, depending on what kind, might be high in omega-6, too. She seems to be doing fine w/o extra omega-3 this winter, so maybe I'm just doing overkill, trying to give her everything she needs.

As for getting her to eat, you can't believe what I tried. One of the most successful was to make her mint tea (Bigelow's Mint Medley) and have the people at the barn pour some over her feed. But they don't like to deal with all that extra stuff, so I'm trying to keep things simple for them. That's also a problem with oil -- it freezes in winter if it's left in the barn. Basically, the feed is to add nutrition and make the pergolide pill go down.

Plunger update: I just used it to clean my dual carto from my 510 tank. It took about 3 good pumps and it's clean! If you're on the fence about it, I highly recommend it. But, who am I?

Oh great! Mine should come tomorrow, I hope.. I hope! I have 4 mega dual coils in desperate need of cleaning. Thanks so much for posting the information about it.

Were you without power because of the storm? I guess you got the section of it coming up from the south. It hasn't started to snow here yet, but I bet we'll get some tomorrow. We're far enough inland that the brunt of it that will hit the coast won't come here, but we're going to get snow as it moves east. I'll let you know how much there is, maybe some photos.

From what I saw on the weather report, this is a massive snow event and New England is expected to get about 30" accumulation. I really hope it doesn't reach your area. You've really been hit with quite a bit this year. I think we will get mostly rain/snow mix, leaning more towards rain. I'm hoping for the rain.

I think we'll get more snow than usual, but the bulk of it will pass us by. We haven't had more snow than usual this winter. Last winter, we had hardly any, and though it was nice, it felt weird. The snow we've had this year is average, though we had that warm spell a couple weeks ago. That was abnormal. I remember one winter it snowed every single day from about Halloween to Easter. It didn't snow much each day, and we never had a huge snowstorm that year, but we had about 1/4 or 1/2 inch each day, and it stayed on the ground all winter. This winter, we've actually had days with no snow. We get a lot of precipitation here from a weather phenomenon called the lake effect.

I'm signing out for the evening. Here's another waterfall. We have lots around here, both large and small. I think this one may be in Treman Park, too.

Thanks CatLady! I feel blessed to have 64 years and not ashamed to say how old I am. Since I've stopped smoking, I feel so much better than I've felt in many years. Hopefully, I'll be around for quite a while longer to enjoy my life now being totally smoke free. :)

I read that article and the one it linked to at CDC Features - Smoking Among Adults With Mental Illness which said:

There are other troubling statistics from the report:
31% of all cigarettes are smoked by adults with mental illness.
40% of men and 34% of women with mental illness smoke.
48% of people with mental illness who live below the poverty level smoke, compared with 33% of those with mental illness who live above the poverty level.

Look at the first item. That's less than 50%, so who smokes the other 66%? I would assume it's people w/o mental illness. Doesn't that mean more smokers are people who are considered mentally healthy? So what does this study prove? I get befuddled when numbers are mentioned, so maybe I'm mixed up. If so, please set me straight and explain to me how smoking is a bigger problem with the mentally ill than with the rest of the population.

Like awesum said, statistics can be greatly manipulated. Who did the study, and what's their agenda? (anymore that's critical).

Who is mentally ill by what definition? I bet most of us who went in for mental check-ups would be prescribed something. I know I would be considered crazy by today's definition. I believe in God, marriage between 1 man and 1 woman (I don't dislike gays btw, and have been friends with some through the years), I believe a unborn baby is a human life, small government, freedom of speech, etc. So I guess I am considered crazy by modern "progressive" standards, lol.

I remember a drug commercial a while back for some form of social anxiety, and this drug was supposed to help you relax, go out and interact with people. The side effects included flatulence, upset stomach, ........, sweating profusely, headaches etc. Ya, like that will give me confidence.

I also loved the one for migranes who's side effect included headaches...go figure.

In this day and age of people going bezerk, do we really want to make stinkies and vaping out of the reach of these people?

BTW, interesting side note. A few years ago I was listening to the radio, not really sure who, and they were pointing out that there has never been a causal link between smoking and cancer. They have never proven it, or understood what the process is. All they had was statistical evidence that if two groups of people are followed, smokers had a statistically higher chance of developing cancer and other issues verses the group that didn't smoke. I don't deny the ill of smoking, and I could be wrong or that could have changed but who knows?

If I recall correctly also, this discussion came up when they were saying that a recent (years ago it was recent) by the WHO (World Health Organization) tracked 300,000 people for decades in Europe who were non smokers living with smokers (mostly France I believe) and found no statistical rise in health problems compared to those who weren't exposed to 2nd hand smoke. That report was quickly buried. Again, I am recalling a radio program I heard years ago.

Sheesh, Debra, I use almost as many () as you do these............

Ok, enough heavy stuff. Just got home from work and fed the RLD's (Rotten Little Dogs) and now it's time to feed papa (me). Upon my return I might just regale you all with another joke from the archives since Rabbit seems to have dropped the ball.

Heck, Konstantine, I figured you'd have some good stuff. I take 800mg of ibuprofen for a normal, run-of-the-mill, headache.
Hey! Well i'm not using anything more powerfull. Sometimes when i had migraines i used stronger stuff but i can deal with it so no need for really heavy medication.

Again, thank you for all the effort you're putting in to battery documentation. I, for one, really appreciate the work and time involved and the added work of adding temperature monitoring.

Do you have any batteries other than Panasonics that you will be testing, Konstantine? I'm using Efest at the moment, all I could find handy when I ordered. A lot of people praise TrustFire and AW, but I have a feeling that Panasonic is the way to go.

Well, I've been up for two hours. Bo has been walked and fed, third load of wash is in the washer, still have to do towels, sheets and Bos bedding, about to start cleaning CE3s to get ready for mixing and filling them today. The storm has started in a wimpy manner, a little light rain and hardly any wind but that is supposed to change tonight. Snow blower is ready, generator is ready, shovels pre-positioned. Coffee is made, but I only have cinnamon toast this morning. Somewhere along the way I'll have breakfast as well.

Hey Roland.
I have two panasonics CGR18650CH, Two samsung INR18650-15Q (18A discharge rate), one trustfire 16340 880mA (a real crap, gave me only 25% at 1C, brand new), one Ultrafire 18350 1200mA and one LG 18650 with unknown data which i have to find what it is, i've taken it from nokia 3G cell transmitter brand new too.

The panasonic did reach 36 Celcius while discharging for 30 minutes at 5Amps. I am in the process of re testing them with temperatures right now. I will post results on my blog and let you know.

If i can get my hands on efest and AW i will let you know, for now i don't have the ability.

There are a couple of interesting articles on Yahoo today about asteroids. The first one talks about the impact that is speculated to have ended the reign of the dinosaurs and occurred in Mexico. After initially speculating that this was the event, a six mile wide asteroid leaving a crater about 120 miles wide, it was decided the timing wasn't right for that to be the cause. Recently, more accurate dating techniques have placed the impact and demise of the dinosaurs within 33,000 years of each other, a mere blink of the eye at these time scales.

The other one is about a "near miss" that will occur next Friday of a space rock only 150 feet wide. If it did impact the Earth it would destroy an area of about750 square miles, that is destroy as in totally decimate everything. It's supposed to get no closer than about 17,500 miles, but that is within the orbit of geosynchronous satellites, kind of close in my book. I sure hope the tracking and orbit analysis is accurate. It is supposed to be visible with binoculars or small telescopes through Asia and Eastern Europe as a small, bright dot. It won't be visible in the Western Hemisphere unfortunately.

Uh btw my next project is one external load.
I need one external constant current load but since the on off switch from the same company costs 700usd i decided to make my own.
I recruited my friend sakis he's also an electronics engineer.
We are designing a new digitally controlled "smart" external load with a microcontroller, sense resistors, and able to communicate with the analyzer. This will add more strength to the analyzer able to provide discharge loads from 0 to 70 amps at least.

It's going to give me the ability to test the panasonic up to 10A and the samsung to 18A.

The good thing: I have most of the parts on my lab, its going to be almost freeeeee :)

Good morning, Voltville. Here are some ferns to get you going this morning. They aren't colorful like flowers, but I love their shapes.

We haven't gotten any snow yet. It's gray out there, though, and the forecast promises up to 8 inches, which is more than the inch or 2 that is usual. I think we'll be able to cope just fine. An ice storm of that magnitude would be worse, and we've had them in past winters. I think the East Coast will be a lot harder hit when the 2 storms meet, but we'll only be getting the southern edge of the one coming from the west. We need a fresh coat of snow, anyway. The grass is starting to show through in spots.

I almost said no but then yes came out of my mouth so I have two big cleaning jobs today. Wish me luck. I am taking a bottle of ibuprofen with me and I am stopping for coffee during my lunch break:)

I hope you hold up OK. Just remember, it's work, and there may come a time you wish you had work. When it gets busy, that's what I tell myself. Right now, I wish I had some work I could do.
