On the back nine
Just quick note on 78mm batteries. Got two when I ordered my starter kit less than a month ago, both ran out of power last night and first thing this morning I went to charge them. No light. Nothing. I couldn't believe they died so quickly. But instead of panicking, I checked the connections and noticed a small piece of schmutz (almost looked like a piece of cigar tobacco) inside the charging end of the USB unit. I cleaned it off with a paper towel, screwed the battery back on and just like that the light came back on. Lesson learned.

Hi John! One trick is to always wipe off the battery end and the carto/clearo/CE3/Nano where it screws onto the battery whenever you change anything. They do get gunked up condensation and the occasional drop of liquid. All of that will keep things from working efficiently.

You "green" folks are killing me. I had been toying, in my head, with the idea of a passive solar water heater to augment our current system. Right now, cold water enters the boiler and can be heated there if the heat is on, then goes to an electric water heater for when the oil heater is off. Kind of a dual system, but if both are running there is no way to run out of hot water no matter how long the shower is or how many get taken. We usually rely on just the electric water heater though and it does use some electricity for certain.

With all this talk the other day about alternative energy my mind has been working on a passive solar heater. I just spent the last two hours browsing around the internet looking. Now I've decided on a drainback system to avoid freezing issues in the winter time without needing any antifreeze. Both antifreeze and drainback systems need a separate storage tank and heat exchanger though. The tank is no big deal, but a heat exchanger may be a little more difficult to homebrew.

Plus, it needs a pump to circulate the water through the collector. I don't want to run another AC powered pump so now I'll be looking at, pardon the expression, a solar system for powering a DC pump. That's making me wonder if it's worth the expense.

In any event my number one project for this coming week is to drain the electric water heater, replace both elements and replace the anode. You guys are killing me!

First the house and then the car. If I lived near you, I would help you clean up after your "guests" are gone. That will be a monumental job to tackle by yourself.

Repeat after me... NO MORE DOGSITTING !!!!!!! ;)

That is so sweet JoAnn. I try to be a giving person and try to help when I can. What I've learned from this experience is that I cannot always help and can make the situation worse, especially for me.

Whisper and I are leaving shortly. I have to barricade the dog door or the older one will try to tear it down trying to get into the house. They don't like it outside much. But I cannot bear to greet their human mom at all, so we are leaving. I'm afraid I might explode on her, and I don't want to have that negativity hanging around on me. It has been horrible with feeding times, bed time, all of the urine in the house, and the fights that have occurred. Poor Whisper doesn't understand when I scold the guests and she thinks she's in trouble too.

Had they been well behaved, I could have looked past some of the extra work needed to take care of them.

Im sure whisper will be so happy to have her mummy back all to herself again...plus get out for those bike rides..yes the rebuilding is a slow making plan...takes so long waiting for all the stuff you need...I don't do patient well....lol...ive only made a few juicers so far....another waiting game...owell all good things come to those who wait........so they say;)

I took Mon and Tues off just to be with her. Planning a long ride for her tomorrow or Tuesday so we can have some time together.

I found if you get an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner, it makes the steeping times much shorter!

What time are they coming and LEAVING? You are a better person then me because I would let her know EXACTLY what I went through. Get it out and then it will be over with. She had to have known how her dogs were... and to have put you through that?!? Not to mention your massive cleanup afterwards...

Here's something to make you smile... (I hope) :)

Their mom should be here at 1:00. I've left her a note. She knows what I've gone through because I've emailed her and after yesterday's poop in the car, I blew up Facebook where she could see it. I don't want to see her at all. I'm trying to have a calm day and just soaking the solstice of them leaving. I don't want any more negative feelings today and I know if I saw her I'd go off.

I plan on cleaning and doing a smudge the whole home later today to get rid of the negativity. My boss is so cool, she bought me some smudging material so I can cleanse the house. Here's a link if you want to learn more: Smudging: What It Is and How to Do It | Care2 Healthy Living

I have some ingredients for tonight's cocktails - Malibu Pineapple Rum, OJ, cranberry juice. Yum! It's a summertime drink, but I wanted to have something special.

It seems you have a plan in place. Not familiar with the term Smudging but from reading about it, I've heard of similar ceremonies for purification and cleansing. Whatever works for you. That cocktail sounds yummy! Can you post the recipe? I'd love to give that a try!

No comment on the bubble bath, Konstantine, and the image of you in your boxer shorts, well.....

Got the tree down with no problems. Mrs. Awsum was worried and very nervous, but that was unfounded. I measured the trunk where I made the cut and it was 24" in diameter. My chain saw is only an 18" bar, so I had to work back and forth, carefully, to get it to cut all the way through. The guy rope did the job and it dropped exactly where I wanted it, no problem. Now the real work begins, cutting it all up into 24" logs for firewood.

Your yard look like mine, Nice Grass  I spent a small fortune and sodded my entire yard. It looked like a golf course for two years, then an August heat wave and drought killed almost everything. Over the years I have planted grass, sodded, tried zoysia grass etc. nothing grows except now some tough bermuda grass is taking hold an spreading. Nice and green in the summer, brown in winter.

Your tree chopping looks like what I did years ago. Follow good procedures and felling trees is rather easy. A guy on a rope helps. That will be nice firewood in the fall.

In Awsum's case that was a gal on a rope:)

Nice job Awsum.

We have virtually no grass in the yard except native bunch grass called rice grass. Just clumps here and there. Still, I like it. It holds the sand back and grows on the amount of precipitation we get here which isn't much.

I do have some tall Saskatoon grass and some Feather Reed grass in the landscaping. They are bunch grasses too.
