Time to say good night. One day, while Penny was still at Deb's, when I went there to visit her, there was a freezing fog the night before, and everything was frosted with these incredible ice crystals. Penny had to wait while I ran around with my camera photographing every weed and fence. It was incredible. I never saw anything like it before or since. Here's just one of many photos I took.

Either that, or he is looking at the ground and thinking, "Hey! Who took my Coke?"

That sounds really cool. I always wanted to get into rock polishing but never did. BF loves panning for gold and that's something that I'd love to try too. We might do that next summer now that he has a van we can camp in. Good luck with your school and new projects. It's funny that daughters follow in their father's footsteps. :) My dad liked to build things and so do I.
My dad was Mr. FixIt and an electrician. I definitely took over where he left off, cuz now I'm always the one getting drafted for DIY projects (big ones going on right now).

Yuck, drywall! I HATE finishing/repairing drywall! :grr:

I just bought a set of 5 color shapers (gray) from eBay. I think the softer white ones may work better, and I have a bid in on them, too. There's a while till bidding on them is over, so we'll see if I get them, too. I'll let you know how they work. They are coming from China, so it'll take a while till they get here.

Good morning peeps.

Did Deb get the picture hung up successfully? Glad your picture got done and arrived in one piece, SandySu.

I had a great time. The trainer will be arriving tomorrow. He didn't have anything useful in the way of gear. He has a leather shop he prefers to use. I'll have to look them up on line. He obviously likes all of his horses. He has a 30 year old pony that is still driving. The pony is cute with a long mane and wildly long bangs. His other driving horse is big and he also can ride it.

He has four other horses including an Arab and a lazy beginners horse. The other two are rescue horses.

Cracking me up with the polar bear jokes, guys.

Drywall isn't in my league so I admire anyone that can do drywall, Cindy and Catlady.

I better feed soon. Nevada is reaching through the bars to pick up stray bits of hay.

It sounds like you had a good time at the trainer's, though I'm sorry none of his equipment would work for your horses.

You said he had a beginner's horse. You had mentioned once maybe learning to ride. I wonder if he could give you riding lessons on that horse. However, it sounds like you have enough on your plate with the driving and training Nevada. Still, it's a thought …

I haven't heard from Deb, though she did e-mail me when I got home from her house to say how much she liked the horse picture. I guess she either hasn't hung it yet or else it didn't fall.

I might add riding lessons after I make sure the driving is going well. We shall see. I think riding would be fun ... on the right horse.

Well, it might not be fun on a lazy horse, but at least he won't be dangerous. Sometimes, urging a lazy horse all the time can get to be a drag, but you could learn the basics on him and then move up to a more energetic horse.

I'd probably want to be very careful about buying a riding horse, #1.

A lazy horse would be perfect to learn on for at least the first several lessons. There is leading a big horse and saddling a big horse and all kinds of stuff to learn, like getting into the saddle and putting the bridle on. Not being afraid on a horse would be very nice for me. He says the horse never does bad things like bucking or what have you. I would consider giving it a whirl but right now I want to get my Wiseguy straightened out and then get Nevada into training for driving.

I do have a lot on my plate.

I bet you'd be fine dealing with a big horse. That beginner horse is probably very well behaved, and leading him would probably be even easier than leading your little guys, especially Nevada. IMHO, if you could learn to put a harness on a horse, saddling and bridling will be a snap! I've taught people to do it, and their main problem is getting the bit in the horse's mouth, and you already do this. Second problem they have is tightening the girth, but you do that with a harness, too. The only thing to remember about the girth is that a horse expands his belly against the pressure, so what might seem tight at first can get loose. Tighten it reasonably firmly, walk the horse a few steps and check it again. If it's loose, tighten it a little more. Walk the horse again, then check the girth for one last tightening. Then check it right before you mount to be sure it's tight enough. Otherwise, the saddle can slide sideways when you put all your weight into one side to get on.

But I agree, your own horses take priority, and you have a lot to do with them yet.

I survived the gun show. :toast: It wasn't bad at all because there weren't very many people there so it wasn't crowded or noisy. The reason for that I think was because it was the 2nd day of the show and the big game was yesterday. YAY Seahawks. I had to say that since they are from my home state. :D

I didn't buy a gun but I did get something for BF. We haven't gone shooting because we haven't had anything fun to shoot at so I got him this...

I liked it because you don't have to go and stand it up after you hit it. And it's small and comes apart in 2 pieces so it lays flat and doesn't take up much room. My .380 won't knock it over but at least I'll hear if I hit it. I'm just hoping that his .45 doesn't blow a hole in it. The one I got is bright yellow and can be repainted after we shoot off all the paint. LOL!

After the show my brothers treated me to the Olive Garden for lunch. The food and service was great! We all had a good time. :)

I'm so glad you enjoyed your day out! And that little gadget to shoot at is cool. This from someone who has no interest in shooting. I think it will hold up better to gunfire than you might think, because when it's hit, it rolls over. It's not stuck in place. Since it can give with the force of the bullet, a lot of the bullet's energy will be dissipated. That's how it seems to me, anyway. Let us know how it actually works.

Thank you about my outing. :)

That makes sense about the energy dissipating. That would probably keep it from getting dents in it. The steel on this thing is almost 1/2" thick so I doubt we'll damage it much except scraping off some paint.

Terry, the gadget definitely looks fun. I'll show this to Hubby when he gets home. He is going to want one:)

I did three burn piles this morning. Then, I fell asleep on the couch:) I need my afternoon cup of coffee and some rest for my muscles.

It's called a tumbling target in case he wants to google it.

I tutored today.

First, the little girl. We went over her words from last time, then she read a book, The Three Little Pigs. She knew most of the words. Then another poem from The Child's Garden of Verses, "From a Railway Carriage," which was very difficult for her. I helped her with the words she didn't know.

Then the boy read something I got off the Internet about Martin Luther King, Jr., since it's that holiday. The kids knew about him (from school, I'm guessing), but when I asked them to tell me about him, they didn't have much to say, so I suggested the boy read what I had to his sister. We got words he didn't know from that, too.

Then we worked on the boy's vocab words from last time and went over the new ones. The kids got a kick out of "hypnotism" when I demonstrated how people would swing something in front of another person and say, "You are getting sleepy. Now you are under my power." I explained this wasn't really how hypnotism worked, but it's often portrayed that way.

I had mentioned to their mom that they watch ET: The Extra-Terrestrial and other English language movies for kids. I think that will be a fun way to learn more English. Their mom asked me to write down the title of the movie for her. I did. Then I thought I could get the kids to write about movies they saw after they had seen them. I could make up a sheet of questions they needed to answer: Did you like the movie? What was it about? What was your favorite part? What was the scariest part? What was the most interesting thing in the movie? Seeing the movie and writing about it could be homework.

So I started thinking of other movies they might like. I consulted lists online of the best movies for kids, and then, if I wasn't familiar with the movie, I went to YouTube to watch parts of it and get an idea if it'd be suitable. I made a few discoveries, too -- movies I hadn't seen that looked neat. Like The Polar Express. There was a very exciting part where the train goes out of control on the ice. And Babe was good, too, with some funny scenes and ones that had my eyes tearing up. I wondered if Where the Wild Things Are would be too scary and complex for them. But it, too, looked really interesting. I think they might like Shrek and Shrek II, and I should have them, but I can't find them. I loaned them to my friend for her kids to watch, and I think maybe she never returned them. I'll have to ask her next time I talk to her. Anyway, it was a fun evening watching pieces of movies. My only absolute reject from watching the movies was Toy Story, which I got too bored to continue watching. I thought it was stupid, though it ranked high on many lists of the best kids' movies. There are some Disney animated movies on my list, too. I wasn't sure about Finding Nemo. It was colorful, but did it have the substance of a classic?

So, if any of you have some kids' movies to suggest I add to my list, I'd love to hear about them.
