Oh maaan - I hate doing all that, and I've done it so many times. My sincere sympathies.

This time I'm doing it slowly, a little bit each day. I have this new one and the one I was using connected by a KVM so I can switch back and forth to see what I need to do next. When I'm all done I'll give the one I was using to my sil and connect the older old computer which has Vista and some old stuff on it. I just use one online, they're only connected for easy access and less 'junk' sitting around.

I don't network because my laptop is very old (XP). I tried it once but had too many problems. Guess I need a new notebook too, huh? lol

Ditto. How does one become a veteran? Not that I want to be one, but I'm curious about what it means.

You're about to become one. After you've been registered on ECF for a year, 365 days not allowing for leap year, the area around your avatar will show ECF Veteran. If you tell them in advance on the pre veterans thread they'll throw you an avatar party in the theme of your chosing. Just a wild guess but you could have horses?? They start a welcome thread in the vip section, which you can't access yet and you get a hearty welcome. You also get a chance to enter a drawing type contest with some really nifty prizes. I see you turn on the 24th so there's still time if you're interested. Here's a link to the thread.

It's quite a lot of fun. Just ask Unk.

On the 1 year anniversary since you joined ecf you become a veteran. From what i gather they have a list of members up coming anniversary dates and create a "turning celebration" event for your day. I think the mods run it , but i have also heard that members can let the mods know of upcoming ppl's turn ...( i might be wrong on that one. Some people get missed.

Thanks for the explanation. I've been so busy lately, I haven't had much time to spend here. Things might loosen up now, with summer on its way, but I don't know. Reunion weekend was demanding, with all sorts of crazy work hours, but now that's over, and I'm nursing a cold, hoping it'll go away soon. I've been riding a lot, and today, I gave the barn owner a longe lesson on Penny. My horse is the perfect beginner horse. It may sound like boasting, but she's better trained than the average horse. I guess it's all those years working on dressage, though we never progressed too far in that realm. But Penny is a steady longe horse, and she has very easy gaits, so a beginner isn't bounced around a lot while learning. I spent the last 15 years or so training Penny; it's an ongoing process. I think the average horse doesn't get such intensive training. And we've tried all sorts of different things, like natural horsemanship ground work and riding bridleless with a neck ring. The barn owner's horses are all sort of green or even more unsound than Penny, who can go for short stints at a trot and even a canter, but isn't up to the kinds of lessons I want to take, so I'll be taking lessons on one of the barn owner's horses. Yesterday, I took a lesson on Flame, an Arabian, and he's well-trained as far as it goes, but he needs to learn to coordinate himself better, trot more steadily and rhythmically and canter from a nice, controlled trot, not be shooed into it from a fast trot, which makes a horse's canter unbalanced and fast. He also doesn't know leg yields (to step a little sideways when going forward), which help a lot bending around corners in a ring. For a horse in his teens, there's a lot he doesn't know. It always makes me wonder why people don't work with their horses more and get them to go better. I guess once a horse is sort of trained, people just want to ride on trails and not work on stuff. I like both. Trail riding is relaxing, but lessons and training a horse are challenges. I like to mix them up, alternating, so the horse and I don't get bored just doing one kind of thing.

Anyway, that's what has been going on with me lately.

If you want to do it but aren't sure of anything I'll help you set it up SandySu. It says you can let them know or do it with the help of a friend.

Thanks for the offer. I'll let you know. I'm not sure if I will have the time to spend on such a thing. I was really involved in reading all the entries in Uncle's contest, and even that fell by the wayside.

Congratulations on you veteranhood, Uncle! :)

THANKS :)

Would have been a shame to miss all that. Glad I could help.

Yes - It would have, especially since I didn't know . . . SO again THANK YOU :D

Grats Uncle ! ur a Vet! :)
Hi everyone. Haven't been around for some time now.... been spending a lot of time with my bro. Night all!

THANKS :) AND - You should be spending time with your brother - How is he doing, Is He getting use to RL back in the states, Having FUN, Meeting any NEW People, Oh so many questions for Our Service People when they get HOME . . . Once Again - Let him know how much we appreciate what he has done for "Us" and the World . . . :D

Congrats, Uncle! Sorry I'm late; too, too much overtime this wk.

THANKS :) AND - Hey Your Not Late . . . Like a Birthday - it always is at least 24 hours . . . AND - I actually signed up to become a member here on ECF July 15th anyway . . .

LOL Noooo. They usually just move a couple of them to let you know there are many many more in the pre-thread. Kinda of your party that is to celebrate your party. heheheeee
big hugs,
morri

YEA ! ! ! - No Problem . . . Just wished someone said something when I was there when "My Welcoming Party" started . . . Matter of fact, that is why I waited till the last minute to arrive so I didn't see anything till I opened "My VET Thread" . . . Also, I have always tried to post something for all the people I know when I know they are becoming a vet and always thought that what was posted in the "PreVet" Thread was copied and then reposted in their personal Vet Thread . . . Again - No Problem - especially now that I know . . . And now hopefully everyone else here will know too so that when they turn ECF VET they will look both places also . . . :D

NOW - although it will have to wait till I have more time . . . Since they were all so great - I will have to go back to "multi-quote" all the post so I can save a copy of them all too . . . THAT'S gonna be a project ;)

EDIT: OH - AND, SandySU and/or anyone else that is about to be an ECF VET . . . Let me just say, originally I wasn't going to have an Avatar and/or Welcoming Thread, and now I realize that would have been a big mistake and a shame . . . The people who run that thread and your friends and the other people on the forum who join in put a lot work into making sure you have a GREAT & FUN Time Turning ECF VET . . . IMHO & :2c: - It is a must have experience . . . :D

I got a PM from one of the mods letting me know I was soon to become a vet and asking if I wanted to participate in a theme celebration. If you reply yes, then they do the whole party theme and special thread thing. If you don't, then that's the end of that. You still will become a vet, but there's just no party involved.

YEP - You do have that option . . .

AND - I thought I would just pass it by and become a VET without all the hopla, especially since I am not a "Full-time" vapor and still smoke analogs too . . . View attachment 109079

BUT - as some people including many of "My" ECF Friends said - WHY ? ? ? You have reached a milestone here on ECF and more importantly, it is not what you are still doing - it is what you have accomplished (and not smoked) you have been a participating member here on ECF for a YEAR ! ! !

And - for "Me" - They were absolutely correct - It is an Accomplishment, especially for "ME" ! ! ! View attachment 109080

It Allowed - Not Only "My" ECF Freinds, but those who have gone and are still going through this process acknowledge for YOU that YOU ARE DOING AND HAVE DONE SOMETHING VERY POSITIVE ! ! ! :D

SO, Yes - You Can or You Cannot Participate - in having an Avatar and Welcoming Party when you become an ECF VET - That is Your Choice as in anything you do . . . :D

But Once Again - I will state it was and still is today . . . That Having An Avatar and Welcoming Thread In Your Honor Is - QUITE AN EXPERIENCE AND A PLEASANT ONE AT THAT TOO ! ! !

LOL Im a bit behind  Saturday just landed around 3 1/2 hours ago. Thanks and you too

This international chatting is a trip sometimes. I've got friends in England we skype with and others in the Philippines and when I am having morning coffee they are either having supper or getting ready for bed... My wife's brother used to call us at 3am all the time because he would forget the time difference - I think it took him about 3 years to get it right...

I wuzznt going to have one either but after visiting the thread they jumped on it and set it up before I could post no lol. I didn't think I'd have as much fun as I did but I'm glad I didn't miss it.

I don't think they had them 3 years ago Rave. I think it's just about a year and a half ago since Whiskey came up with it.
