Sitting down, facing forward.
I wasn't going to post again about the Sandy Hook shooting, but.....

I wasn't being judgemental or preaching with my comment yesterday. I am just struggling with trying to understand what happens in the mind of a person to do an act that I can only describe as evil. It goes against, what I think most perceive, as basic human behaior, let alone any morality one may want to inject into that basic behavior.

My solution yesterday was to turn off the news and turn on the radio with some Christmas (not "holiday") music. The conflicting reports and speculative reports are too much. The basic story is depressing enough without all the endless repetition. Now the story is evolving into "the troubled individual". Gee, I need a news organization to tell me that. I can't understand the necessity of repeating the same, sometimes incorrect or false, story over an over achieves anything for anyone. There is a lot of other news worthy events going on that will never be seen that also effect us all. It seems the news people get focused so intently on a horrific event that all else, including their own principles, get tossed aside until the next horrific event occurs.

Incidentally, just got to six months, one day, tobacco free.

I'm sorry, Deb. Schizophrenia is a physical illness, a chemical imbalance in the brain. There was only so much you could do to help your son. There are some better drugs available now but it still isn't an easy disease to deal with. It is unknown whether video games or movies or music would be in anyway responsible for the type of delusions your son had. Sometimes, families have to let go of their children who are violently delusional for their own safety.

I wish you were right here next to me so I could give you a big hug.

Life doesn't always have easy answers.

I fear that a mental health system that doesn't concentrate on truly difficult and life damaging mental cases and helps label people who are simply dealing with life in their own way would be a system that interferes with far too many of us. In fact, I think that is happening to our children now. Sure, kids can have a hard time concentrating in school or sitting through classes but we, our society, has turned that into these kids being bad and somehow thinking this can be fixed through giving them drugs. Pretty soon there won't be any children in school that aren't getting prescribed medication.

The people who truly need help have a hard time finding it. How would you like to be the doctor treating someone who isn't in touch with reality and could turn violent? And, most people who are mentally ill aren't going to kill someone. Some people should be locked up for their own good and the good of society but we don't seem to have the ability to do that. I saw a cop show once where two brothers were sniffing paint and were clearly brain damaged and continuing to sniff paint. Geez, I thought, those two need to be locked up for their own good. The cop cut them loose and their tragic abuse of themselves continued.

Well said Lizzy! I totally agree with that statement.

Yee Haw! Awsum Six months and one day tobacco free is, well, awesome!!!!

Yeah, the immediate aftermath of something bad shouldn't really be people screaming about their political viewpoints and watching people be interviewed about their trauma. We should allow the authorities some time to investigate what really has happened and then the results of the investigation could be reported on.

I rarely watch the news and I certainly don't watch the opinion shows being cast as news. News is about facts and not filled with a bunch of opinions. Speculation, false information and an emphatic viewpoint is not news reporting.

after my husband took my 2 youngest children..my oldest son...fell into deep grief..he turned to violent video games to numb his pain...then came black metal music...I tried to show him that this was not good for him...these satanic lyrics were no good for his mind and soul..but being a teenager how do you stop them...if they want this in there lives ,they will get it else where.at the age of 18 he became schizophrenic...I could talk forever and a day on the heartache and grief that followed....my doctor told me if I wanted to live I had to walk away...my son was totally mad..... I tried for years to help him.......he tried to kill me one night..and that was the last I saw of him...I believe in some young minds playing these video games that allow our children to soak up death killing..satanic lyrics in music plants a seed in...weak minds...who are sad or lonely...who don't know how to reach out for help..i believe they become like puppets on strings.while these games and satanic music is the norm we will continue to see this horror of yesterdays

Sorry to read that abracadebra. You have a good point. The infulence of music and games do tend to play a role!!!

CONGRATULATIONS on 6 months and 1 day smoke free Awsum! :toast: That is something I'm heading toward.

Thanks for the expresso Lizzie! That added jolt needed for this cold dreary day we're having here.

My SI cart is in holding pattern hoping for the T3's debut by tomorrow. If not, I will have to wait on trying one because I don't want SI to sell out of RY4 before pushing that "submit" button. :)

My dear friends, although we desire to avoid religion and politics, this is a “Chit Chat Thread”

I wish to relay to All of you my wish that you have a Very Merry Christmas.

Whether you are an Atheist, Agnostic, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, Mormon, Jewish or Christian, I think you must “at the very least” recognize that Jesus of Nazaeth was a man who was born in Bethlehem of Judea over 2000 years ago, and has influenced millions of people around the globe. His “philosophy” of peace and goodwill toward all men and women deserves our recognition. To love your neighbor as yourself, to turn the other cheek when confronted with evil, and to help the poor, has never been a natural response in most societies, yet peace and kindness will eventually prevail over war and hate.

Therefore if you deny the holiday of Christmas because it is only for Christians, and feel that the display of the manger scene or the Christmas Tree is and imposition of the Christian Faith, I hope you will reassess your position and at least think of Christmas as honoring a man whose life was dedicated to Love, and Peace.

Although I am one of those who is "Agnostic" who just so happens to have a very strong moral and ethical beliefs, that includes a special "Faith in Mankind" . . . AND - No matter how ironic it sounds - I do believe in ALL Religions and Faiths because of their “philosophy” of peace and goodwill toward all men and women" (However, Just Not the Religious and "Self-righteous" Dogma) I Do Agree with "You"about honoring any man or woman whose life is dedicate to LOVE & PEACE . . .

More importantly, "SIR" - Very Nicely Put "OLD Wabbit"

AND - Just as Important, If Not More So - It is the One Thing "We' ALL Should Be Doing Throughout The Year Too . . .

Dedicating "OUR" Lives to Care, Respect, and Love & Peace of One Another . . .

Well, it is almost 9:00 AM in Oz (Australia) where is Debra? I put a clock on my computer desktop showing the time in Queensland just so I can keep track of her in Oz. Changed my avatar for Xmas and awaiting packages from SI and Wizard Labs.

Edit: My new avitar actually looks a little too formal for me, although I do like to wear my tux occasionally, especially on a cruise.

I was in Guam for a while on buiness, years ago. The time there is similar to AU and it's a little confuing at times. I used to phone home when I got back from work and find home getting up to go to work the day before. Really wierd, plus Debra keeps kind of late hours, LOL.
