Wal-Marts generally sell "baby" fireworks-- poppers that you throw on the sidewalk, snakes, sparklers, etc. Many states allow them, when they don't allow the bigger stuff. They are really hard to regulate, since they don't make much noise, and aren't much of a fire hazard. Illinois has always been very restrictive. Growing up in Illinois we were lucky to be just across the river from Missouri, but even then, my parents were very conservative about such things. We had sparklers, but only with Mom and Dad hovering anxiously.

I like snow. It makes winter more visually interesting. When there's no snow, hereabouts it's a dull gray and brown. Of course driving in it can be a challenge, but they clear the roads quickly, so I just wait out a snowstorm and then go out when it's over and they've had time to plow. The only problem there is if the snow is powdery and it's windy. Then the snow will blow across fields and drift right back on spots on the road faster than the plow can come by and take care of it.

Snow can be pretty when it's just fallen and still white! I used to love walking while it was snowing! It was like being in another world! Very peaceful! Unfortunately, our driveway is off of an alley and they never plow them. Next time I buy a house, I'll be sure to think of that...no alleys! LOL!

Sitting down, facing forward.
hi volties...would like to wish you all a happy 4th....sounds like a fun time..are you allowed to let off your own fire works? like can you buy from a store ?

Deb, in spite of what the Declaration of Independence says about freedom, we are generally prohibited from buying or using fireworks by ourselves, after all we might get hurt with them, and to be honest, some people are dumb enough to do exactly that. Kind of ironic when the authors of that document said that the Fourth of July should be celebrated in many ways, including guns and fireworks.

It varies widely. Some states prohibit them altogether, others let towns set their own rules and laws. Wisconsin is in the second group. Just off the interstate, there is a store that is open all year, in a town that prohibits them!!
when I was little we had a night called guy fawks...we could buy crackers etc..it was great...but then it was banned all over oz..in the 70s..due to idiots..blowing up mail boxes....only can see them at fetes or a protected show of sorts...

Hadn't thought of the tongue scrapers! Thanks for the idea!

We all seem to go through this from time to time, especially starting out. Tongue scrapers and Biotene mouth rinse worked for me and of course drinking lots of water. I have to remind myself to drink water at times. I smoked Newport's for years so when I started vaping, it was all menthol flavors. Then I got menthol mouth, couldn't get rid of it for nothing. I stopped the menthol and slowly it got better. I tried SI's RY4 and it is still my everyday favorite.

I can't do too many sweet flavors back to back or I'll lose my sense of taste for all of them. Now I like occasional menthol flavors like NicQuid's Bahama Blizzard especially in between sweet flavors. It seems to cleanse my taste buds so that I can taste different sweet flavors again. Try a mild menthol flavor, it may help.

On another note.... I love your signature banner! It's so cute! :thumb:

How it all started -

The Unanimous Declaration of the
Thirteen United States of America

Thanks for the reminder, Awsum, of what this day is truly all about!

I don't generally subscribe to the idea that people are responsible for the sins of their ancestors, but in this case repairing my mother's mistake has been a joy.

The first two pix were actually taken at the same time. After discovering what paint removal was going to entail, I concentrated on the back. Once I discovered that the damage to the original finish was too severe for an authentic restoration, I decided to go for an approximate one, keeping the black and grey color theme. Yesterday I was doing the black detail-work. It is waiting for the new leather handles. Then I will get the inside done. Then I will make a decision on the finish for the outside wood-work,

When we were negotiating the property part of the estate, my sister made me promise I would take good care of it. No problem. :p

Thanks, Tina. :toast:

Wow! What a wonderful job 0mg. I'd love to see the interior when you get it done too! :D

Oh heck yes! Snow can be a pain to drive in, but it beats the stuffin' out of gray, gray, gray!!

Rave.. thanks for the info, but I think you persuaded me to not get those.. ever. I don't mind pets that take some extra care, but I don't like keeping communal pets in solitary. I prefer a single pet at a time, so that would become way too much.

Good choice Nuke! Plus, a pet isn't really a pet if it doesn't enjoy being petted. Just my opinion. :)

I was very afraid of fireworks, even sparklers! It took me quite a long time to even hold one in my hand, and that was at arms length! I loved the snakes and the smoke bombs, though! The biggest thing we ever had were fire crackers. I remember my cousin and I setting up a battlefield of army men and lighting off the firecrackers in it. The army men were immediately destroyed afterwards, though! LOL!

Thanks for the information, JoAnn! Also for the compliment on my signature banner. I wanted a new one and I was thinking either The Big Bang Theory or My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. MLP won out! After the fourth, I might just make myself a new avatar. I downloaded a few off the internet with my name on them and found an awesome one that I am thinking of using! :)

I used a tongue scraper for a while, but it made me gag if I got it too far back on my tongue. Watch out for that. I guess it's sort of like sticking your finger down your throat to make yourself vomit (never tried that, but I've heard about it.).

Good morning Voltville! Happy 4th of July and all that....what are everyones plans for the day?

Bill has off work, so I don't know what he might want to do. My brother and his family are in the area, and we made tentative plans to hike in Watkins Glen today, but it's gray, and I wouldn't want to be caught in a thunderstorm. It says 50% chance of precipitation. Do we dare? Will we decide to go to Watkins Glen? Will Bill want to go with us? Bill is still asleep and my brother hasn't called me yet, so I have no idea how the day will turn out.

Same happened to me when I used to have one! Even a toothbrush will do that to me!

Sorry to hear, Deb! I am so glad I no longer have to deal with roommates! Although, now I have to deal with my husband and brother. My brother happens to live upstairs and rarely comes down, though, except to shower.

There will be a beautiful fire works show at the City's Inner Harbor, many people will be there to watch the display. I'm not one of them.

Fireworks are illegal in the city but are sold in the county... just a few blocks from me. Needless to say the law is totally ignored and it will sound like a war zone around here after dark. Many of my neighbors are bold about using them because the cops don't enforce the law.

Spanky will be in my lap the entire night.

The inside is going to be very fem, to contrast with the outside. Although I still haven't made up my mind about the Queen Anne's Lace decals on the outside.

You've done an excellent job on that trunk! Can't wait to see the inside when you are finished. It looks like it will hold a lot too. ;)
