Well, I am glad her chances of survival are looking up, Wuzz. I don't know what I would do without my Handsome Honey Bunny. It's rough when your spouse is so ill and scary, too.

I like it when it is a little less manic, as well, Raven. You better get some food out there or that jay may take to swooping on you:)

Gotta go feed the critters and I am hoping to get them into the round pen early before the wind picks up.

Hubby as a cold so I'll be in comfort mode today.

Thanx Lizzie. I'd much rather it be me than her but that's not my call unfortunately. I don't know what I'd do without her either but it probably wouldn't be pretty. There is one among us who has experienced that loss first hand and has survived very well. I take strength from her.

I'm doin ok Unk. Getting used to a hectic schedule of Dr. appointments and sorting out various med bills in addition to usual daily life.

I bought a tablet to pass the time in waiting rooms lol. We're doing everything we're supposed to so it's going better than if we weren't. Keeping nutrition up is important and we seem to be doing well at that. The hair and nails are evidence of that. Next Tue we get the results of the latest scan and I'm hopeful. It's scary business for sure. I can keep up a front ok as long as I've got time to experience the fears and aprehension naturally with some close friends and my God.

I bought a netbook for the same purpose, Wuzz. Tablets weren't around yet I don't believe. Nutrition is extremely important, but not as important as knowing that you are loved, and that the one that loves you so much wants for you to survive. It is beyond difficult to go through this. But I sense that you're stronger than even you are aware of. She needs to draw on that strength and hope. We're with you, my friend.

I think she may have figured out that I love her by now lol. I'm trying to stay strong and be totally positive about this with her and give her all the ecnouragement I can. We're fighting it together and have a good team of Dr.s. Thanks for being with us.

I just got back from the barn. I took my new clippers to the barn to start getting Penny used to them so I can clip her in spring. Last year, her summer coat was too thick, and I was worried she was too hot in the summer heat. That's because she has Cushing's. They say horses don't shed their winter coats. Penny shed out big time last spring, but her summer coat grew in longer, I think. Anyway, I figure it's now time to clip her in spring since she probably won't have a normal summer coat again. So I bought clippers, and now I have to get her used to them.

So today, I took them to the barn and put Penny in the barn aisle with a flake of hay. I didn't tie her so if she panicked, she wouldn't struggle against a rope. I stood a distance away and turned the clippers on. They make a soft buzz, but Penny backed away from the strange sound. I figured this wouldn't be easy, she wouldn't ignore the sound. Still, I had hoped.

By the end, she ate hay while I sat a distance away running the clippers. She was suspicious, but not so scared she didn't eat, which is a good sign. She sniffed the clippers while they were off, again, suspiciously, but she touched them with her nose. And she let me touch her neck briefly with them off. I figure that's a good start, and I'll be doing more of the same till she ignores them.

I figure I'll need to clip her mid-May, so we have some time yet.

Penny the Horse did pretty good.

I need to do this with Wiseguy and Nevada. Wiseguy would look a lot better if I clipped his mane's bridle path instead of using scissors. Wiseguy sheds out nicely in the spring but if I want to drive him sooner...and I do...I need to convince him to let me shave his belly. Yeah, let's see how that goes.

I don't know how much Nevada will shed out. Some of the minis seem to have extra thick coats like their bodies shrank but the amount of hair is the same as on a big horse.

Okay, I gotta ask because I know nothing of horses - mini or otherwise. Why shave his belly? Good luck with accomplishing that!

The surcingle needs to cinch under his belly..really kind of up on the left side kind of...I also don't want to be yanking on his hair and it is hard to smooth the hair out and cinch at the same time. The hair on his back isn't so hard to get to lay flat and doesn't seem to get pulled by the surcingle like the belly area.

Oh, and then there is the problem with the cinch only having one notch available since all that hair is probably blowing him up by three inches. I can't cinch it a bit and then cinch it tighter once he relaxes.

Gotcha! Now it makes sense to me. Thanks for explaining. Learn something new every day around here. :)

I've seen this thing. What is it called and where did you get it?

Erasing shield, from almost anywhere (any art/drafting supply store, Amazon, etc.). I did a lot of typography (font design) and early on before computers when I did graphic design, I did a lot of my rules and stuff by hand.

I did some other stuff too. Like I used to print photos in B&W on translucent paper and hand color the back side with pencils and pastels to make it look colorized on the front.

I think I may get a couple of eraser pencils. Not the electric kind, just the regular kind. I bet they'll do the job just as well and be cheaper. I don't like the idea of having to replace batteries all the time.
There are some projects where you really have to go back and forth and back and forth with the strokes. I was a printer too, and there were times when we'd have to erase a little ink spot off hundreds of prints. For those, the electric eraser was ideal. I preferred the "clicky" type to the pink-eraser-pen type that you sharpen, because it gave you the option to use different types of eraser refills to suit your project...but the pen type that you sharpen was a little stiffer and easier to control. Plus you could get finer points without it falling apart during use.
