Today is very hot: 93 degrees F. Over 90, I start to melt. I was supposed to ride on the trail this morning with Nancy, the barn owner, but she thought it'd be too hot, so instead, I went a little later and gave Penny a bath. I thought getting wet on a day like this would be a relief. I noticed that when I turned Penny out again, still a bit damp, she didn't even roll, which she usually does when I don't let her dry thoroughly first.
Heather and her younger sister Shelly came out to the barn to chat, and Heather, who a while ago told me she was "taking a break from horses," said she'd like another riding lesson. I had been a bit unhappy, thinking she had so easily lost interest. But I found out that first, she had been grounded, and then the end of the school year consumed her time. And now I'm happy she is starting to ride again.
I wonder if it's a little competition or jealousy, since a few days ago, Shelly and I rode on the trail together. Maybe it's only that now, with school out, Heather has more free time. Whatever it is, I'm glad Heather is getting back into horses.
