I almost clicked on "like", but it isn't an appropriate button. I know Maggy is a cat, but Bo has had "stomach issues" as well, far too often. We seem to have gotten him settled down using "Wellness" dry food, and he loves canned food. Maybe just try a dry food, slowly introduce it over a week or even more, and see what happens. It's really tough when they can't tell you what's wrong, and of course, they'll eat anything we give them for the most part.

I agree with Awsum. If you change Maggie's food, do it gradually. And if the new food you're using doesn't improve things, try another brand. My cat does very well eating Nine Lives kibbles. You could try that, though what works for one cat might not work for another. One interesting piece of advice I read on the Internet is to buy smaller bags. The food is fresher. I think even dry food can spoil in summer heat. The Internet site was discussing the many recalls of pet food, and they suggested a smaller bag because before any ill effects from that batch could take hold, you'd probably be on a different batch, which would be OK. I'm not sure how quickly a pet could get sick from tainted food -- I'd think more quickly than using up even a small bag -- but I decided to get the 5-lb bags, not the 20-lb ones, and I think Tom does better with fresher food. Maybe it's just the placebo effect. I may not really see a difference.

We did start with a smaller bag, but with Bo's size that doesn't work out economically. With a cat it's much easier but the key is to introduce it gradually. Spend a week doing it unless there are immediate or bad problems. It's worth the effort.

Same thing with Lexi. Verrrry slowly. Mastiff's have gastrointestinal systems that are really easy to upset and they are susceptible to gastric torsion. Her old food from the rescue was giving her gas that would peel paint. I moved her to a high "named" protein, high calorie (she was way underweight) chow, but over a period of a couple of weeks. Fixed the methane and loose stool issues.

Do you think big dogs have these problems more than smaller dogs? Horses are the same. Very delicate gastrointestinal systems. I wonder if a larger, longer intestine exacerbates this.

It very well could be. No clue.

Another thing that I have to avoid with Lexi is allowing her to eat large meals because that makes it even more likely for her intestines to fold over themselves. Two or even three smaller meals are better.

For dry or wet it is pretty much the same stuff she's been eating her whole life, only difference is what flavor she gets today. However I did try a different brand recently, which didn't seem to bother her before, but maybe it is now. Also, it has been very hot here lately, so maybe what's in the feeder did go bad. Or maybe the old lady just can't tolerate the heat like she used to.

I think smaller meals, more often are probably better for all beings. They are for people, horses, dogs, and cats, anyway. I have no experience with other animals.

I've noticed that switching to a new bag of food (same brand, same flavor) can upset my kitty-girls' digestion, so I start mixing the new with the old, a few days before the old runs out. This seems to keep things stable, digestion-wise. And I try to avoid buying more than 3.5 lbs at the time, as an opened bag doesn't seem to be as tasty by the time it's almost finished. I feed Iams', as it seems to be more consistent from one bag to the next.

Excuse me but... 5 months today! OMG. I ordered a purple 650 to celebrate. Well I ordered it yesterday. Took my 900 X2 to work today. First time I haven't used a Volt all day. Ended up in a very interesting discussion about vaping and Smokeless Image with a carpenter 1 floor down doing renovations . He couldn't take his eyes of the X2. He managed to bleat "Online?" I must have said 'Smokeless Image" at least ten times. Will still use my 78mm Volts at work sometimes and definitely when I have to go other places during the week. But hey - everyone at work knows I vape now. I want a lotta purple bling in my day.
This has been such a life change. I was the one, that when we all used to go for a smoke break I would smoke two in the time they smoked one.
Thanks for your great attitude fellow Volties. This SI forum is much nicer I find - everything goin on - technical stuff, chat, support, humor (I spelt it the American way even tho it's not correct )

Way to go KIWI and we don't count spelling here anyway. I would also like to thank you for changing the subject matter from animal intestines and their output, I didn't have breakfast yet and come to think of it I kinda lost my appetite. Anyway congratulations on your success may you celebrate many many more. :toast:

Hi ya Blake ((waves)) welcome to the rough patch... Err wonderful voltie site lol
Hi ya cat lady!! Yep sunday was fathers day , mothers day is in june.
Konstan you are in my thoughts daily , hope ur keeping well.
A wonderful thing occured today, in the early wee hours of this morning out of no where a group of kookaburra's were singing or should i say laughing and as the morning was dead quiet it was the most beautiful sound to hear. They are not normally seen or heard so close to this part of the neighbourhood. I truly felt blessed and loved. here's what they look like.

Congrats on 5 Months Kiwi!!

I even made it purple for you! :)

Reptilr - I can't even imagine what it would be like to have kookaburras calling around here. It used to drive me crazy hearing them in the old Tarzan movies. I'd always growl to myself: "There are no kookaburras in Africa!" :grr: Things like that bug me.

Busy day coming up. Time to get a bunch of chores done. I have a shed to finish. I am so close to being done but I have to put up one short wall section. Hubby has to help me put up my track system and I need to make 4 doors that slide on roller wheels. Well, we won't get all of that done today but we do need to get something done on that project!

Then there is all the little chores around the yard. I won't be back into the house until lunch time. Have a great day!!!!!
