or if you are, most of us are,,,I'd never heard of it until my sister contacted me and said that she had had contact with our father and he had this thing that sounded a lot like what I'd been suffering,,,,,,

so I went in for the genetics test and Xrays to see IF I have it,,,,,,,,,,

I'm hoping not, because it's life long and progressive.

Rave, AS stands for Ankylosing Spondylitis,,,,

an auto immune disease, a form of arthritis that affects the spine, primarily, causing extra bone to grow and "fuses" one vertebra to another,,,,,,,,this is painful LOL

it also affects joints such as the knees, elbows, and hips,,,,,

and tendons that attach to the bones, like your heel tendons.

I started to "like" this, and decided "no, that wouldn't be right." But thank you for answering my question.

OK, where to begin,,,,,,I am a happy camper

I do not have AS,,,,,I am HLA-B27 negative, and there is no fusing,,,,,,,

I DO have one of the arthritis (arthritae???) that falls under the "spondylo arthroposis" or something like that,,,,,,

I have significant narrowing caused by this arthritis which is causing my numbness,,,,,,,

I have degenerative disc disease,,,,,,

and I have fibromyalgia,,,,,,,,we already knew that,,,,,,,but I am NOT crazy,,,,,and he wants me to get a new neurologist because he was ASTOUNDED when I told him my current neuro said my pain shouldn't be that bad.

they are watching for "facet syndrome" which happens when the arthritis affects a certain area of the spine,,,,,

but no ankylosing, nor is there likely to be,,,,,huge sigh of relief.

It's no fun,,,,,,,,,,but it's not as bad as I was worried about. It's an answer,,,,,,,not a great option, but MUCH better than I was worried about,,,,,,did I mention I'm not crazy? I should have offered you all as proof that I am,,,,,

continue cymbalta,,,,,,,watch for flares,,,,,,and he's upped my arthritis meds,,,

I'll be dealing with this for the rest of my life,,,,,,but right now I'm a pretty happy camper,,,,,,

remind me of this when I flare, please

Holly, glad to hear it isn't AS but sorry to hear that you have severe arthritis. Also glad you have a supportive doctor who was ASTOUNDED by the way your neurologist said your pain shouldn't be that bad.

Sounds like sorta good news Holly. But, I'm pretty sure that you're at least as crazy as most of us here. Glad that you found a supportive rheumy rather than one that is dismissive. That's definitely a step in the right direction!

Great news Holly... I'm so glad that it isn't AS. Arthritis is nothing to sneeze at though. Changing to a doctor who cares will help you manage your pain better is a tremendous step in the right direction.

good news holly....ive got arthritis in my fingers.....so I often hit the wrong key....I got those nodule bumps.. when they first popped out..alien egg sacks....I call them....sore nasty things...I thought they were warts at first...now there like rock hard marbles.....with my long nails...look like a witch....you don't realize how much you take your hands for granted.....until you get these buggers....

I couldn't imagine living without air conditioning,,,,,,I've got it on almost 365 days a year here in Florida,,,at least for an hour or so in the late afternoon,,,,,,

although I did turn my heat on once this season so far,,,,,,for a half hour in the AM to take the chill off,,,,,,,AC went on at 3pm that same day LOL
