OK, here's some German humor for everyone. I hope this won't offend anyone. If you are easily offended at something a little risque, don't click on the link. Don't worry, it's not actually pornographic or anything. I think it's funny and intriguing, but then, I'm weird. (We all claim to be a little offbeat here, so I'll share this fascination of mine.)

A little history. I belong to a horse listserve, Equine-L. One of our members is German, and he and some cohorts performed Die Glocken von Rom (The Bells of Rome) at a barn party one Christmas, with the guys dressed as Santas. The horse group loved it, and every Christmas, the video gets circulated again. I chose a similar performance, not his, because this one is a little clearer, higher quality. Still, watch it in large screen for full effect. This performance seems to be done at parties, not necessarily Christmas parties, and it probably helps if you have a few glasses of good, strong German beer to go along with it. Enjoy!

The idea, in general, seems to be to wear some sort of trench coat, bathrobe, or other long garment that opens in the front. Under it, the men wear a frying pan over their private parts. Then, tied to their knees is a cord with a ladle attached. When they flex their knees, the ladle comes up and hits the pan with a ..... That happens when the bells of Rome are supposed to ring, I think, though I don't know German, so I'm not sure what the song is saying.

By the quantity of YouTube videos, it seems this is a fairly popular entertainment in Germany at parties, though some seem to be onstage. None seem particularly professional. I think the fun is that the audience probably knows the performers. It's kinky and camp, something on the level of Rocky Horror, but really, a thing all its own. I'd like more info on how all this came to be, but Wikipedia has nothing about it. Anyone German who can fill me in on this? I love it!

Well, I decided to relent and show you the Christmas version of Die Glocken von Rom. This was performed in their indoor ring. You can see the horse jumps, etc., in the background. Horse folks can be a crazy, wild bunch, can't they? (However, maybe Germans are looser than Americans, in general. I can't imagine any guys at any barn I've ever been at doing this.)

Hugs to YOU, DW.

Nice to see you here Kico. Packing fruit, doing cement. You are a hard worker!

Chilly all day so I decided to stay in and order a bunch of different Wizard Labs flavors. I also DIY'ed some more of my tobacco flavors but this time in 15 ml sizes. That way I can take a little out at a time and add flavors and see what kind of great combos I can come up with. I ordered some glass bottles in 15 ml, 30 ml and 120 ml sizes to store my nic, pg and vg in and some of my base flavors to mix like the tobacco flavors. I love shopping on line. So relaxing. Take a break, come back later, think it over, then, hit the buy button:)

TURN OFF THE NEWS.......

Morgan Freeman's brilliant take on what happened yesterday :

"You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here's why.

It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single *victim* of Columbine? Disturbed
people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.

CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.

You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem. You can help by turning off the news."

Raynes I totally agree. I try to avoid the news lately. When I first heard about it at work, I wouldn't pay attention to it til I got home. Whenever violence involves children or animals I cry.
The media makes the criminals famous and all they care about is making a buck. We need to demand more responsible journalism....not sensationalism. I don't want to know his name.....

Holly very nice. I play around creating cards, too, but mine aren't nowhere near that beautiful! Good job!!!

I'm not sure what the killer's motives were, but assuming it was for fame could be a reason, and then, maybe not. No one seems to know why he did it. I think the reason they don't focus on the victims is because the victims' families want to mourn in peace and privacy. After all, the press was criticized for pouncing on children who survived and questioning them, so going after the families and publicizing info about the victims might be even more offensive.

So it comes down to the question: Should news like this be hushed up? If it was, then there'd be an outcry about that, too.

I think Morgan Freeman has a point,,,,,,,,about how we treat celebrities in this country,,,,even ones who shouldn't be celebrities,,,,like people who are implanted with 8 babies just to break records and get tv shows, etc etc,,,,,,

and I think you have a good point too,,,,,,,,,we don't know his reasoning yet, although the police said they were working that out,,,,,

he may simply have been sick,,,,,,,in the head. Some people are saying they think he was schizophrenic :( he was the right age to start coming down with that,,,,,,,,,

eta: after we DO know the reason, I hope, as a society, that we marginalize him as much as possible while celebrating the lives of those amazing people,,,,,,,,,some of the stories of heroism by teachers and admins are starting to come out, and they are simply amazing.
