THREE GRANDMAS

Three grandmas were sitting on a bench outside a nursing home. About then an old man walked by, and one of the grandmas says, "We bet we can tell how old you are."

The old man said, "There ain't no way you can guess it."One of the grandmas said, "Sure we can! Just drop your undershorts and we can tell your exact age."

He did. The grandmas stared at him for a while and then they all piped up and said, "You're 84 years old!"

The old man was stunned. "Amazing!" how did you guess that?"

The grandmas laughed. Slapping their knees and grinning from ear to ear, all three happily yelled in unison, "You told us yesterday."

When I saw that video I instantly thought of Blue and his farm. I'll be so glad when Blues gets home,I miss his farm animal stories. The cat in the video also reminds me of my cat Millie when I brought home three pups that were abandoned on the side of the road. Millie can't stand other cats but she took those pups right in and helped me with them until they were healthy and luckily I was able to find homes for them.
Animals never cease to amaze me,their capacity to love even between different species.

That reminds me of the cat who fostered squirrels in the video I posted a while ago. My cat's a male, and I doubt he has any mothering instincts. In fact, he's a very give-me, do-me cat. He expects instant service from me, especially when he gets into in-and-out mode, coming in the door one minute, then wanting to go out again the next, etc.

:D My one-year-old male tabby Romulus was scared to death at first of the two wee black (male) kittens I brought home from the shelter. By Day Two, he decided it was "safe" to join in playing with them when I used the long jiggly "fishing for cats" toy. By the end of the week, he had become the perfect Foster Mommy, snuggling with and cleaning "his" babies at every chance. :)

Sniff. I think Rom may have been the sweetest cat I've ever known -- and I've known a LOT of sweet kitties.

Nookie. Do they still use that word, or is it just us aged folks?

Everytime Awsum posts, I learn something. We should gather all his posts and build some kind of "Awsumpedia."

Exercise. Definetly do what you are able to do.

Food. Eat the good stuff. If you like sweets, make sure it's sugar. High fructose corn syrup is a killer. Just remember, moderation. Slowly reduce salt, and in no time you won't even like it anymore. Kind of like cigarettes.

Beans. Very good. Rinse thoroughly. Chew thoroughly. This is one of those organic things that is worth the extra money.

Debra and White Rabbit are a blast together. (Just don't tell Rabbit's wife.)

I'm on physical therapy break right now. I get to eat a wonderful hospital lunch. When you're thinking about going out to eat, do you ever consider going to the hospital for dinner? Do you see what I mean?

Rest and more PT this afternoon. I'm hoping I get out of here this weekend.

You folks are fun. I love to sit and read through this thread. I hope soon I can join all of you more regularly.

Thanks for your thoughts, prayers, and care.

Great to see you posting! Still praying for you Blues!!! Way to go!!! Keep on healing and you will be home soon!

There are some male cats that are nurturing, all of our other cats get along and two of them are males and their all rescues. Millie was so abused and traumatized she just can't adjust to the other cats. She likes dogs. Saber our oldest male cat took to Panda the youngest male cat instantly. Panda is always into something and Saber took it upon himself to be Panda's mentor. I really feel sorry for Panda sometimes for he can't get away with anything for Saber and our part Pug,Tonka who is also a rescue and a tattle tell.

I missed all of Bluesmans' stories... think that was before I joined the group. He works with sick animals? I remember him posting about some wind damage done to his vet clinic during Sandy... I could be wrong though. Would love a summary but I'm sure Blues is not up to recap at the time. Can anyone else give a little history?

People could learn a lot from animals... they are truly amazing.

Hugs Eleanor. Rom was so lucky to have such a special person to care for him. Thank you for adopting. I'm not good with offering words of comfort there just aren't any words. Just think of what a good life Rom had with you. I wish that every animal could be so loved

Blues takes in animals that everyone else has given up on, the sick, the abused some that have been abused worse than Millie has been. He does have his own clinic, his rescue farm is much bigger and sophisticated than mine is. When he feels better maybe he will share some more stories with us.

Thanks Raynes. I thought it was something like that. But... I didn't know that you also have a rescue farm. I knew you had horses and some other pets. Can't forget about Arnie!! Will never forget that one! But... Wow! such amazing revelations!!

I have never tried almond milk. Does it have calcium in it?

The only brand I've had is Silk Pure Almond and according to the label, has 50% more calcium than regular milk. It also comes in other flavors i.e., vanilla and chocolate, sweetened and unsweetened. I've only had the original and I love it.

Vegan could be a deal breaker for me. But I'll check the books out anyway to see if they have any other info that would be helpful. Though I don't eat a lot of it, I don't want to completely eliminate meat.....nor dairy. I'm making many small and a few large changes in my diet. I also know myself and if I try to go beyond my limits I will be doomed to failure.

After reading The China Study by T. Colin Campbell, that got me away from meat and dairy. Furhman says if you stay on a 90/10 plan (90% veggies, fruits/10% of other foods) you can live very healthy

I must confess that is me. I've cut down on the amount... but can't go without it totally. My tastebuds are for salty rather than sweets. I can do without cakes, cookies, candy but not salty foods. It's like my body craves it and I KNOW it's bad for me.

I thought the same thing until I got it out of my diet. If I have a few chips with salt, I immediately have to drink water to get the saltiness out of my mouth. It takes time, but it can be done!

Another beautiful picture SandySu! You have quite the eye... ;) showing the beauty of winter.

I remember the last morning my dad ever got to sit in his favorite chair at his home. My mom fell sick and my brother and I had made the decision to move my dad to an assisted living facility, and my mother would join him later. My parents loved their home. We had a huge sliding glass door that encompassed the entire living room. It over looked into our fence less back yard. Behind our property was wooded land. In the winter, dad would always feed the birds and squirrels. Deer would head up out of the woods in search of food and always come up to the yard and stand there looking at us looking at them. I hadn't seen the deer at all during the week I was at home and had hoped to see them with their babies. I was busy packing and getting the house ready to be sold but always stole a moment to look for them.

The morning of the move, and my dad's last morning at his own home, I was sitting on the hearth talking to my dad. I looked out the slider and there I saw 4 deer standing in the yard. It was like they knew they had to come to say good bye to my dad. It brought tears to my eyes and still does when I think of the moment.

Sandy, thanks for sharing such a great photo!

Well... I just finished reading an excerpt from this book. This is the beginning of this new year and I'm going to start the process of ridding my body of salt. No wonder I crave it! One thing... I stopped eating take out a while ago and never really cared for deli meats including "low sodium" lunch meats. Even for me, they are too salty. Now that's scary!

Good decision JoAnn! You can do it! I love Mrs Dash seasonings. There are a lot of spices that can be used in exchange of salt. Dulse flakes are a good way to salt something up and still get some iodine in your diet. Some dulse flakes smell downright fishy, so you might have to experiment a bit with it if you try it.
