I'm going to do my exercises and go to bed soon. I have an early horse club meeting tomorrow, though maybe I'll check in here before I go. Meanwhile, here's another summery photo for those who are getting tired of snow scenes. This was taken at Longwood Gardens in PA. I went there many times as a kid, and it was one of those magical places that impressed me deeply. There are extensive water lily ponds there, and they dye the water black, which brings out the colors in the flowers, as well as preventing algae from growing.

I know how to use a chainsaw,I also know how to use come-alongs. One day I decided to cut a tree that was downhill from our trailer. My chainsaw was a small Mcclough(sp?). I got out the come-alongs and thought I had positioned, secured and had them gatched up tight and locked where the tree would fall where I wanted it to,which was straight towards the trailer. It was straight alright, when that tree fell it went straight through the door. One thing I know,God looks out for idiots like me,it could have taken out the trailer but as it was it just took out the door. Which was bad enough as it was dead winter and cold. Justin was 3yrs and my cousin who was 16yrs was keeping him. Thank God,Belinda was watching and saw the tree falling. When the tree crashed through door Justin said "UHOH,Mommy, you be in "twouble". Well there was nothing I could do but start sawing the tree up in the house. At that time,my Grandmother decided to call and it wasn't long before Mother arrived. Luckily,I had what had landed in the house sawed up by then.Mother never said a word, only time I ever saw the woman speechless, she grabbed Justin and Shelly up, and some clothes and just LEFT. That tree ended up costing me my around $500 back in the 80's.
Next day I came home from work, there was a brand new shiny butane gas tank, no wood burning pot belly stove, no chainsaw, and a gas bill taped to my brand new wood door. To this day,my Mother has my chainsaw and refuses to give it back.
When Mother found out Ronnie and I were getting married, and that our trailer has a fireplace she told him about this incident and to this day he keeps his chainsaws LOCKED up in his Bronco and I have yet to find the key to that stupid Bronco and we have been married 15yrs.
Every time I ask for my saw she reminds me of this, and I always reply sarcastically "Like I'm the only person that has ever had a come-a long to ungatch on them." Her reply always is," State Farm thanks me for it".

How are you Lizzie? Give Wiseguy a hug for me

I'm good but I will be up at the .... crack of dawn to see how my little Wiseguy is doing. It is supposed to be 1 degree out by morning. He has lots of hay. It snowed so I hope he doesn't get ice balls on his feet again. I was reading where his feet won't freeze due to the ice balls but it has to be really uncomfortable.

The farrier said his feet look fine even though it has been really cold some nights so I guess I'll try not to be a worry wart. Wiseguy used to live in Elko and it gets really cold there so I am pretty sure he will be okay:)

What a freaking day! Or at least the past 4 hours. I took my desktop into the computer shop. It wasn't starting up and getting stuck on the BIOS screen at startup. I thought my hard drive was going, so off I went. The fellow at the shop told me that I should consider getting off Microsoft XP as it will be not supported by MicroSoft much longer. I asked him to some diagnostics and give me a quote on upgrading to Windows 7, a new hard drive, and added memory. Well, the price wasn't so bad, so I told him to go ahead.

I get my computer back this afternoon and discover the one file I really need - my saved email files are gone. Poof! I looked at the backups and he backed up the wrong drive and left me with my old files dated back to 2008, but not the current ones. Those are the ones that I kept with important info such as download info and registration stuff for various things. I've been busy reloading all of my software programs and remembering how Windows is a :censored: when you get your system refreshed.

So I pulled out my backup external hard drive to see if I could find my one file. The directions are like reading Sanskrit and make just as much sense. Ugh! I do have the right old hard drive, so I'll have to take the computer apart and plug that back in and see if I can find my files and back them up, then do another complete backup of my new system.

On the good side, my computer is running like a champ. I just have to learn Windows 7 now. I did check Microsoft's website about XP. They are discontinuing any service on it starting April 2014. If you are a hangeronner like me, you might want to consider upgrading your OS.

I see we are posting pictures of ourselves. I don't have anything new, but here's a picture of me and Whisper in Sedona from a few years ago.

MS is pushing Windows 8 to consumers but not to businesses. I expect windows 7 to be around for awhile, like XP. Until Microsoft fixes the bugs in 8 - I expect it won't be a suitable program for at least a year. I hope it isn't another MS Vista - that was not a nice OS. XP is old, but it was fairly reliable. I miss it already, but I guess I have to get with the times!

I hope this computer gives me a few more years. Upgrading is such a pain!

Whatever you do for an OS upgrade don't make the mistake I made and upgrade to Windows 8. Windows 8 is great of you want to turn your nice, high horsepower, wonderful, easy-to-use computer into a smartphone wannabe. I did find a utility that lets me boot directly into the traditional Windows GUI rather than the "Metro" GUI and that did help, but the darn pop-out menus are a pain in the tuchus to say the least and, unless you have a touch screen monitor, the "Metro" interface is useless crap. Then, if you have a touch screen monitor, do you really want lots of finger smudges all over that nice, crisp, clean, brilliant surface?

In my efforts to go back to Windows 7, which is what this laptop came with, I managed to wack the recovery directory and files in a moment of frustration. Now, if I want to go back to Windows 7, it'll cost me fifty bucks for the recovery CD from Asus or I'll just have to buy Windows 7 and be done with it. Thankfully, I haven't installed any real software on this thing yet so recoveryto Windows 7 will be painless in that sense.

My big desktop tower is still on XP-Pro, good, stable and easy to work with but I guess I'll have to upgrade that to Windows 7 before the end of the summer. How Microsoft ever thought Windows 8 was an "upgrade" is beyond my comprehension. It will never work in a business environment and to me is a complete waste.

Just my opinion, worth what you're paying for it. Your results and mileage may vary. No warranty or guarantee is expressed or implied.

His feet won't be uncomfortable from the cold, but you do need to keep an eye on the ice in his feet and clean them out if the ice stacks up so he can't walk and stand properly. It's hard for people to realize that horses like it colder than humans do, and they actually enjoy it at about 40 degrees better than 80 degrees. Of course, horses can get too cold, but with a shelter, I'm sure Wiseguy will be just fine. Just watch for the snow stacking up in his feet and clean them out if that happens.

*pokes nose in thread* like I need another thread to keep up with

hi all

:)

I'm a big fan of XP.. wish I could go back to it.. can't stand 7 - never made the stop at vista .. don't like that I have to *take ownership* of my own darn computer files and folders! Don't like that I cannot do a search for all files and folders created today in one click.. don't like that it won't let me in my settings folders.. don't like ~hidden~ accounts for microsuck helpers .. really cannot stand that UAC crap.
Will NOT go to windows 8.. I don't do mobile devices - my cell phone is just that.. a phone. No camera.. no texting.. no data plan.. just a phone, and it was darn hard to find too. (big button marketed to seniors phone) I don't do apps.. I don't want to do apps and I would prefer that my computer not have preinstalled apps that have to be removed.
If microsuck forces 8 on the world, I'm probably going to have to become a linux geek

Good to see you. Again, I wish the photo was bigger. Good luck with your computer. I just got a backup for my computer on my brother's advice. Now to figure out how to use it. I haven't had the courage to even open the package the last few days.
