Sandy!!!!
We are on a different part of the planet not a different planet :D :D
Yes we have them, infact we have more fruits and the mediterranean climate produces better fruits.

I wondered because I figure Greece's climate is different from ours, and I wasn't sure what kind of climate blackberries need to grow, though they seem to grow like weeds here. I think there must be places in the US where they don't grow, but I could be wrong.

Well, look at this. PLANTS Profile for Rubus (blackberry) | USDA PLANTS The genus grows all over the US, though there are various species in certain areas. I have no idea which species our blackberries are.

we have lots of berries...theres strawberry farms...all around me....plus..pineapples...mangoes...of course :banana:trees in the back yard....and those berries in your pic sorta look like our mulberrys....that put stains on everything...I use to climb mulberry trees as a kid...and come home with berry stains all over me + mouth and purple red lips and tongue:p....mum would take a fit...very hard to remove...stains off clothes or they were ruined....fun times;)

They're not mulberries. They grow on a thorny bush, not a tree.

We had a mulberry tree in our backyard in Redwood City, CA, and if you walked in the yard, you'd track the purple stains into the house onto the rug. It was a mess, but yes, I'd collect the berries and eat them, too. There were more than I could ever consume, though. I guess I should have been into canning and made preserves or whatever.

Blackberries are great in cereal, like oatmeal! We have some growing wild in the back yard but they are not very good, too tart.

We planted some blueberry bushes for a laugh about three years ago. The first year, just a few BB sized sour berries. The second year, way more, but still kind of tart. Last year I built a "quickie" frame around them then covered that with chicken wire to keep the birds away. We had great blueberries for almost two months! This year, I'll build a real frame with a gate and hinged lid. New Jersey is "famous" for both blueberries and cranberries.

Congrats on making eight months, Debra! Keep on vaping!!

Yes, I remember as a kid going blueberry picking one time, and it was great. The berries were growing wild somewhere in NJ, and they were very good. I don't know where in NJ it was. I was little, and my parents were visiting friends who took us to pick them.

Good morning Volties. We are currently getting a rain/icy/snowy mix so far today... dreary but not the major snow event that the forecasters have been predicting. The winds are increasing and power outages are also predicted... all schools and some businesses are closed. This is suppose to continue until tomorrow morning. I've got the weather report on and now they are calling for all snow this afternoon through the night. Who knows at this point. Maybe we are still in for it..

Glad to hear that Penny is doing great after her ordeal. She is such a beautiful horse and reflects the care that you give her. I think you will be amazed at how well that furminator works. I bet you have tons of pictures of her throughout the house too. :)

Way to go Debra! Congratulations for being off cigs for 8 months and still going strong. Happy vaping girl!! :toast:

Yeah, we have that same storm coming through. The local TV is covering it like it's Armageddon or something. I think the shore is going to take a pretty bad hit from this one, just judging from the wind here, gotta be gusting around 30 or 40 already and the storm isn't here yet. Just rain, so far, with temps around 40, ut we are supposed to get a few inches of slush before it's over with.

I'm with you, Konstantine, any berries, especially fresh berries, are great. As a kid we used to go out into the woods on my grandparents farm and pick blackberries, raspberries and blueberries, depending on the time of the season, for breakfast. They made plain old oatmeal into a real treat, and still do. I just had oatmeal, cooked oatmeal, with peaches which is nice but not quite the same thing.

Sandy, I'm glad Penny is doing OK after her icing incident.

Coffee is ready!

We had a windy night. Good thing we got stuff done yesterday. Over night low of 40 degrees. No hauling a big bucket of hot water out for me this morning. Starting to be that busy time of the year.

Headed to Fallon with "The List". DMV, bank, grocery store, a couple of other stops. We called two places in our area about round pens and the place in Fallon was $300 less than the guy in Mound House. We are going to stop by and see what his product looks like. I'm so excited to get this project moving. If we like what we see, we might even make a deposit today:)

It looks like this big storm is going to pass south of us. We had 2 days of partial sun, but now it's back to cloudy with possible snow flurries. I think every weather event gets big, panic-stricken news these days to keep people excited and interested. I don't remember there being such a hullabaloo over the weather in the past. Maybe people really do enjoy getting all worried? I guess the news and weather people need to report something. I don't remember so many power failures with every weather event when I was a kid. Why is that?

Berries of all kinds (blue, cran, red, black whatever) grow all over (everywhere) Greece and maybe even too much.
We have a sunny climate, not tropical.

Is the climate different in different parts of Greece, or is the country small enough that it's basically the same everywhere? Yes, I know the mountains will get snow while the lowlands don't. I'm thinking it might be similar to the area of Turkey I stayed in, which was near Izmir. That climate was very similar to the one in Redwood City, California. Not too cold in winter, though sometimes when it rained where we were, we could see snow-capped peaks in the distance, and hot and dry in summer. I remember getting uncomfortable in summer at 30 degrees C, which I think must be roughly equal to 90 degrees F. It didn't get that hot every day of summer, though the weather was a lot more consistent than it is here, where it's hot one day and cold the next.

Today, I'll give you all another flower, a rose. The way the light hit this one, and it's color, makes it look almost metallic, like it's not real, but it was a real rose in Sonnenberg Gardens in Canandaigua, NY.

One thing Northern Nevada lacks is any consistency in the weather.

Wind is howling. Picking up sand and moving it howling. Naturally the goat water was low and filthy so I had to dump the water tub and haul two big buckets of water 25 feet to fill it up while being pelted by sand:) A big bank of dark clouds is poised to come our way from over the Pine Nut mountains. I would love if it would rain.

We don't really have blackberries in Nevada. I am trying to grow some domesticated blackberries but they haven't done well so far. There can be blackberries in the mountains to the west of us.

I think the preoccupation with weather and weather related power outages is due to the fact that we've become so dependent on electricity. For example, I'm on the Internet and the TV is on as well. The washer and dryer are both running and I'm going to make fresh coffee in a minute in the electric coffee maker. How did we ever survive before? I know, I remember making coffee in a perk pot on the coal stove and cranking the wringer on the old washer when I was a kid, then my Mom would hang the clothes outside on a line...how quaint LOL.

Can you rig up an outdoor faucet so you can use a hose and not have to haul water? Maybe you have one but detach it in winter because of freezing? At barns where I've boarded, they have a thing called a hydrant. See http://www.serenityacresnow.com/pro...pment-reviews/tractor-supply-parts20-hydrant/ for a picture of one and a sad story about it being defective. Most barns, the hydrant has worked fine for some period of time, though I do remember one hole in a barn as described in the blog to replace one after it wore out. Here, where it's below freezing most of the winter, they often put heat tape around the hydrant to keep it from freezing. Sometimes if it's in the barn in a sheltered, warm spot, this is unnecessary. However, every barn I've kept Penny at has had this arrangement, so it must be what works best. You can screw a hose onto it and water the horses, then take the hose off and keep it in a warmer place, like your mud room. One barn just went through a lengthy process of draining the hose after each use. They would hang one end rather high, then lift the hose all along its length to let the water drain out.

Yeah, I could have hooked up the hose but with sand pelting me I decided to go the "easier" route and just haul a couple of buckets of water over to the goats. The horsey got half a bucket since he still had plenty of water. I just topped him off. Throw the hay and dash back into the toasty warm house:)

We have no freeze faucets. They go down into the ground about 3 feet and drain every time you use them but if you leave a hose hooked up during the winter it can totally freeze your faucet and then it is no good until you get a long warm spell. I would like to come up with a hose hanging system but haven't taken the time. I put one end of the hose at a high spot, if there is one, and walk the hose to get the water out of it. What a pain.

There is no warmer place on our property:)

When I was a kid, we certainly had electricity, though maybe we didn't use as much as we do now, since there are more electrical appliances now. Do you think the power outages are from every family using more electricity now? Yes, we used to hang the laundry out, too, even in freezing weather. I remember bringing the laundry in off the line with things as stiff as a board. Amazing that when they thawed, they were dry, though. I think hanging clothes out is a wonderful option, if you have the area to set up a clothes line. In fact, I was shocked when I heard on the radio about a neighbor complaining that someone in her neighborhood hung her clothes out, and she thought it made the neighborhood look trashy. I just found this, which makes the problem seem even bigger than one community, as I thought. Line Drying Clothes: Take Back Your Right To Dry I think asking the president's family to hang their clothes out on the White House lawn is a bit extreme, but I also can't see why people don't have the right to dry their clothes on a line if they want to. I guess because I grew up in a household that did this, I think it's a perfectly viable option, not a disgrace.

Wind is also howling here on the East Coast, up to 50 mph with blowing rain. We expect a little bit of snow tomorrow. Had to order more of my favorite juice "AGAIN". This is becoming a monthly event ordering 50 ML at a time. I just can't stop vaping EC Blends Black Magic. If any of you want to try a great (supposedly tobacco) juice, Black Magic is tasty. I order mine in 50/50 extra flavor at 12 mg nic.

I am going to order some 18350 IMR batteries for my Vamo to use in shorty mode just for taking it out of the house and on vacations. One of these days Mrs. Wabbit is going to YELL at me for buying more "stuff", but when we were out to dinner last week, we stopped into a little boutique and I bought her a stainless steel and copper necklece of a Blue Crab which she loved and has worn almost every day when she goes out. So I am still in her good graces until she sees the credit card bill.

Catch you all later, stay warm, dry, and safe.

Wabbit

That's how they drained the hose at the last barn where I boarded. They do have hose heaters, but they are expensive, and I imagine your electric bill would skyrocket. See K & H All Season Hose Heater - Statelinetack.com for an example of a hose heater. This one is cheaper than the prices I've previously seen. No barn I've ever boarded at ever had one, so I have no firsthand experience with these.
