Good morning everyone. Slept a little later, 6 instead of 5. Dark roast coffee again, Baileys French Vanilla (messed up yesterday and said Irish Creame), 1/2&1/2 and nonfat. Bacon, eggs and bagels in a little while, then outside to try to finish hacking up that tree. Got about a third of it cut up yesterday so I may be able to get it finished today. Then I have another one to take down, a little smaller, but it has to fall just right, again, because it has to fall between the house and the shed.

You are challenging Lizzie for our most industrious person, Awsum. Take care when felling this tree, though I'm sure you will be careful and do it just right.

An ultraviolet light might work to detect urine patches on floors or furniture, I'm not really sure though. Glad you're back to normal, or what passes for normal, Tail.

Yes, I think that's what someone said -- ultraviolet light. I thought that sounded really neat when I read about it. Never heard of it before.

I will plan and work carefully, but sometimes the best laid plans go awry, or even scotch or bourbon. It is getting past time for me to get outside and start cleaning up the mess for winter. Kind of "forced" industriousness.

At least when you don't work, you get to do something fun that a lot of people can't afford. Take care of your ...., and don't come home so sore this time!
Instead we installed 2 200W panels on the stable and a phocos PL60 solar charge controller with 4 12V 80Ah deep discharge batteries (total 320Ah) and 12v lights for the stable.

Debra, I thought she meant she still has $191 of the $200 she got.

Tail11, I'm glad to hear they're gone. When I think about your situation, I keep thinking about some sort of light someone mentioned that when you shine it on your rug, it shows where there's urine. That sounds neat, if it actually works, and it may make your cleanup a lot easier. Are you kicking up your heels in glee yet? It must be a huge relief, anyway.

Yes it really works. When Spanky was a puppy and was being housebroken, accidents occurred. I bought an enzyme product called Urine Gone that came with a black light that shows you where urine is and was. The catch is you have to turn off all other lights or use it at night. Now you can get it in stores but at that time it was an "As seen on TV" product. It works like the light police use to see bloodstains at a crime scene. Here is a link that shows how it works.

Neat! It's always nice to have electric in the barn, for lights and for various power tools you might need there.

What did you and the horse owner ever figure out about studs in the shoes?

Thanks for the coffee Awsum, Can't stay for breakfast. Have to be put the door in only 40 minutes. Just enough time for eating a bowl of cereal, throwing food at the animals and loading the cleaning supplies into my truck.

Well, looks like Kon and Awsum are industrious today.

Tail, enjoy your new found freedom. Glad the pests are gone.

29 degrees out and it looks like it will be a sunny day:)

Hi Debra! She left me 190 dollars. I spent a little over 9 bucks to make their dog food. That 200 bucks was for 3 1/2 months, when she initially thought I bought into her plan of keeping them. I had to set her straight on that, and especially after her dog started ...... all over my things.

Hello Kon. Yes, I'm female. :)
ok tails I got all mixed up....nothing new for me ...lol...

Happy Birthday Rave!

Aswum - great job on the tree!

My house guests are gone. Their mom left me what was left of the $200 she had her ex husband give me. That's 191 bucks after paying for dog food. I guess I can buy some cleaning supplies!

Used almost a quarter of a bottle of bleach to clean the tile floors. I found some pee spots in the kitchen that I hadn't seen. I pulled the pillows off the couches and let them sit outside for a few hours. I washed all of the dog blankets and throw rugs. I'm still going to have to go back over the floors again. I bought some febreeze air freshners and feel like Walter Matthau in Grumpier old Men when he hung all those air freshners in his truck to rid the air of decaying fish in his back seat!!!

Whisper is happily laying in her blankie on my lap. Life is back to normal. Yea! Tail is too tired to do her happy dance, but will tomorrow!

Hope everyone has a great night!

You and Whisper deserve to sleep as late as you want today. Don't worry though, we all are doing the happy dance with you! :toast:

Well the system works for at least a week as it is if the sun goes out.

Nothing yet he still uses the studs and they work pretty well on rocks, i have tried them. I have no idea what is the material they use to weld on the shoes, looks like a golden thingy like brass but brass isn't hard.

I Thought you were a man! LOL

Well, no work today (again), we will go for a horse ride.

No worries Kon. On some boards I'm on, I like people not knowing what gender I am. It makes it easier to get your point across.. :)

Petco sells the light and cleaner. I was thrilled this morning to be able to feed Whisper and not have to lock her in the bedroom after she was done eating. The two house guests eat much slower than Whisper and if I didn't keep her separate from them, she'd eat all the food!

To top the whole experience off I had a run in with a horrible man at the dog park yesterday morning. There are rules posted on signs to the gates of the park entrances stating very clearly that food is not to be brought in to the dog park. This guy showed up with a grocery bag full of food! Whisper is quite the food hound and will smell it 50 yards away. So she was over begging for food from this guy and he yelled out asking whose dog it was. I walked over and told him about the sign/rule and asked him to take his lunch out to his car. He took offense and said "what does it matter" over and over. Then preceded to tell me that I need to train my dog better. Needless to say, my mouth went into full gear and I ended up screaming at him at the top of my lungs. All he could say was what does it matter?

I apologized to my friends that were standing there, but watched his Yorkie jump on people left and right. I don't understand why people simply cannot follow the rules. It is for their pet safety as there can be food aggressive dogs at the park at any time.

That was the last thing I needed yesterday and I hate to blow my top like that, but it's been percolating for awhile I suppose. I never seem to have anything go right for me when I do something good for someone else.

I'm sorry to hear there was a scene at the dog park. I think you blew up because you have been under so much pressure from the dogs that were staying with you, and all that got directed at the man. It would have been better to explain calmly to him why it mattered, but things happen, and now, at least, you have it out of your system. Just take a deep breath and start fresh.

It started off calm as I explained the rules. This fellow had a chip on his shoulder and obviously doesn't like following rules that don't fit his agenda. He escalated it until we were both screaming. I hate myself for stooping to his level. I'm trying to move on, but I let this stuff eat at me.

Sometimes it's hard not to let stuff eat at you, even though that doesn't do you much good. You can't go back and do it differently at this point, so I guess the only thing to do is learn from it. Meanwhile, do try to move on and enjoy your time off with Whisper. Maybe go do something solitary like ride your bike with Whisper going along. You may just need to get away from it all. Ride the bike to the coast and look at the waves. That's always calming.

Thanks for the kind words Sandy. We are headed out the door soon to go for a ride. A nice ride always seems to clear my mind! ;)

Have a great day volties!

Hope your ride was a nice one, Tail. The problem with that guy was his name wasn't mentioned on the sign, therefor it doesn't apply to him, kind of like stop signs and red lights.

I'm definitely not as young as I used to be. Got the tree all cut up, the branches stacked, the medium branches cut into six foot lengths and stacked, and most of the bigger logs stacked. Those 24" wide, 24" logs are kind of heavy, no power equipment other than me, so getting them stacked is a problem. I did get about half of them done but ran out of treated 2x4 to put under them. I'll have to pick some up tomorrow or Wednesday to handle the rest.

Mrs. Awsum and I have been discussing the idea of a wood stove and a solar water heater all afternoon. I think I'll start moving forward on the solar water heater. A wood stove is nice, but it is a never ending task to get wood, split wood, carry wood, then carry ash. If I had a good supply of wood at a low or no cost I wouldn't hesitate, nothing beats throwing a couple of logs on the fire when you feel a little cold, but without a good supply of wood it ain't gonna happen.

You should price what wood costs in your area. Even buying it and having it delivered as I did some years ago might be cheaper than whatever heating fuel you're using now. I know that it was about half the cost of propane heat for the same place when I had first a woodstove and then it was replaced with a propane heater. You've already got a head start with all the wood from those 2 trees. I scrounged my own kindling, though. They just delivered logs of a size that would fit in the stove but not small enough to start a fire.

As for a hot water heater, I hear the kind that only heat the water when you want hot water cost a lot less to run than the kind that have a tank full of hot water all the time. I don't remember the name of this new design of heater, nor do I know how it can heat water fast enough to be practical, but I remember reading about these hot water heaters some time ago.
