SandySu -- So wonderful that you rode Penny. I want lots of pics.

Wabbit - Nice rocket launch.

Awsum - I have worked for 7 years keeping the weeds out and it is paying off. Definitely keep those dandelions at bay now that you got most of them out:)

I need to take pics of my work in progress on the pond and stream bed. It is looking so good. Hubby took me up to the canyon where we got the most spectacular lichen covered rocks and we brought some more home. I'm exhauseted from laying landscape cloth and bac filling thepond and getting rocks.

Hey, Awsum, we are having homemade pizza for dinner. What kind of white sauce are you having? Do you make the sauce yourself? I'm using home made spaghetti sauce on our pizza.

Wuzznt - Must have been really neat to watch the shuttles launch.

Have you ever gone to see the Chincoteague ponies? Those 5 kids might have fun there on Pony Penning Day. Even going when nothing much is happening can be exciting, seeing the ponies galloping along the beach on Assateague, which can be reached by a bridge.

Never have gone to Chincoteague during Pony Penning. It is a ZOO. There is only one small road in and out of the island and during the Pony Swim / Penning there are thousands of people in Chincoteauge. It is hot, crowded and almost impossible to get around without walking for miles because traffic is just at a standstill most of the time. We go to the local beaches in Spring and Fall when there are not tourists around and the weather is cooler. I do vacation at Outter Banks where it is usually quieter in the summer, but just as hot. Funny that I live 30 miles from one of the nicest beaches on the Atlantic Coast, and drive 5 hours South to spend time at the Ocean.

Sitting down, facing forward.
Coffee is on and munchies are around as well. It's downright cold here this morning, 31 right now! Too cold for comfort to say the least, and I thought heating season was basically over.

Yeah, Lizzie, keeping the weeds at bay is a constant battle but it does get a little easier with time. I had a problem with wild onions in the front as well and have that well under control after a major effort last year. I'm thinking about taking a soil sample over to the county extension service to find out exactly what it need to keep grass growing for more than a few months at a time. Last year I limed, seeded, used a starter fertilizer and then fertilized at the proscribed intervals and all that went for nothing. My guess is the is too irony give then iron and manganese content of our water here.

The pizza has no real sauce, just ricotta and mozzarella with the toppings. They do use spices in the mozzarella so it's not completely bland. I have no idea what they are using but it sure is good!

Wabbit, that's like us. We live within an hour of all the popular and nice beaches here in NJ but never seem to go to them. Too much traffic and too much crowding for our tastes, plus it frosts my cookies to pay ten bucks a person to go onto a public beach in the first place. There is Island Beach State Park, but it was heavily damaged by Sandy. It's a peninsula that is less than a quarter mile wide in places but about five or seven miles long, running from Seaside to Barnegat Inlet. It's one of the few beaches we can take Bo to and yet we haven't. Maybe this summer....

Thanks for the coffee and munchies, Awsum -

We have manganese in our water. I would go to the county extension and see what they have to say about growing a lawn in your area.

I have my big one and a half cleaning day and I am really wiped out from all the work we did over the weekend. Wish me luck.

Sorry about the double post, things were crawling and I clicked "stay on this page" when trying to post. If that happens, you should click "leave this page".

I also blew it with the pizza, that's the ricotta that gets seasoned, not the mozzarella.

Our water is kind of heavily laden with iron and manganese. One of our neighbors has a sprinkler system that, apparently, is using unfiltered water which is normal. The foundation and siding where the spray heads for their flower beds hit the house are all orange. Before I installed a new filtration system here, even our washing machine tub was getting tinted orange. I'm sure that has a lot to do with my problems growing grass, although the weeds and garden seem to do fine, go figure.

Our house was turning kind of brown but some of the houses around here turn orange. What is weird is that every well is different even though the wells are in the same neighborhood. One of the reasons I changed the sprikler system was to get it away from blowing onto the house at all. I need to paint the house in another year or two and I don't want the new paint to be ruined. That is going to be a lot of work for me:)

I don't know about the advice to "leave this page." The other night, when things were slow, that's what I did, and still, I had a double post. I guess it just happens when things don't work right.

I don't know what to tell you about the grass. We have hard water here, though maybe a different concentration of minerals than you have, and the grass grows fine. We get lots of rain, and that seems to get the grass growing till I constantly overhear some neighbor mowing all summer long. Weeds grow well here, too. In fact, the landlord doesn't even try to get rid of dandelions. They just grow in with the grass and dot the lawn with yellow. I don't mind them.

So cute - That Mr and Mrs Wabbit are quite the pair:)

I had a disaster in the greenhouse. I drive off today and about 10 miles down the road I think to myself "Self, did you open up the greenhouse." And Self say "Nope, and it is too late to go back."

When I got home it was hot, hot, hot inside there and the lettuce was wilted. I opened it up and then I watered everything. I'm going back out in a few minutes to water again. Hopefully the lettuce will be perking up.

The vet is coming tomorrow. Wieguy's first shots while I own him. I hope this goes smotthly. Wiseguy is really good for the farrier but who knows about the vet.

How's your lettuce? Did it recover?

I'm sending "be calm for the vet" vibes to Wiseguy. It helps if you're not nervous and if you have some treats to give him. Have the vet feed him a treat in the beginning, and then you feed him a treat when he has behaved well for a shot or some other procedure. Make a big fuss over him when the vet finishes the shots, along with the treat. If they associate good things like treats with the vet, I think things go a lot better.

I'm pretty sure Wiseguy will be a good boy but good advice to load up on the carrots. Wiseguy is a Cookie Monster:)

The lettuce perked up nicely. I gave it some more water. I sure hope we can have a nice little salad tonite.

Add a pineapple to make a pineapple salad and I will be right over.:D

Well fancy that - I made pizza today too! My all-day meal - just grab a slice every couple of hours and go!
Mine was pesto with spinach, garlic, broccoli, black olives, tomato slices, feta and mozzarella. First time making crust from scratch too. Wow, didn't know it was so easy! And so much cheaper/better than that Boboli crap!

Lizzie, nice save on the lettuce! :thumb:

Ever thought of operable clerestory type windows in there? Nice and high up, and on opposite walls for cross ventilation. Would probably beat having to open and close the doors all the time...
