It had been loose for a while and when we went to her doctor last week he told her he wanted to have it removed but he wanted to find a podiatrist to work with him as far as payment since she doesn't have insurance. Mom keeps joking the dog saved her thousands in surgery costs.
Wow! that must have been quite the shock. I guess because it was dead it wasn't painful which in a weird way is a blessing in itself.

I love some of these for e-cig gear: Products : Vaultz® I have the cash lock box for my cartos, needles, liquids ($20 at Walgreens, 3 digit lock), and I picked up one of their medicine cases today at Wal Mart for $8.33 for mods and their batts. The prices on the site are high compared to what I paid at the two "Wal's".

Time to catch up w/ PIF...busy day.

LOL that's one way to look at it. Glad she's not tweaking over it

Lynlee, I agree- I wouldnt freak out either- I am just laid back like that- heck, my son was bit by a coral snake and we decided to wait and see if he got a dry bite or actual venom.

BUT- I would get with someone soon to have a blood test done- make sure there is no blood poisoning- keep an eye on her and make sure her foot doesnt start to streak- that would be infection- and make sure it doesnt get warm to the touch- OR cold.

Well, I decided to get my eyes checked today- because of the instructor school next month- it has been about 6 years, and I stopped wearing my glasses when I got preg last time and my eyesite changed. LOL I took 3 hours to pick out glasses- and still am not sure I like them.

Got contacts though- so, I challenged my kids to a shoot off with our bows- Mine hasnt been shot in about 5 years- Its a little off- but I still skunked them! :)

Lynlee, I would be more concerned about the gangrene spreading. How does the stump look? is it pink and healthy looking, or is it gray and ashen? Gangrene can spread pretty quick and I wouldn't want her to loose her foot as well. If it was me, I would go to the ER just to be safe.

I can't believe your doctor waited this long to have it removed. Normally gangrenous toes are treated with medical maggots. They eat the dead flesh and their waste is a natural anti-biotic. (yes I know its gross but its pretty amazing)

okay 10 years ago she got a little sore on her pinky toe on her right foot and it turned to gangrene and she never TOLD me until it was BAD. She was in agonizing pain by the time she finally decided she had to see a Dr. She needed a bypass on her leg and they removed the toe at the same time. I'll never forget the pain that little toe caused her.

Last year she woke up one morning with a blood clot in her left leg and her toes were purple, we went immediately to the ER. She needed a bypass on the left leg, which had some crazy complications, she bled out some 4 units or more, had 14 hours of surgery, some of it while she was awake (Dr. feared her heart couldn't take more anestheia). In the next couple weeks she had follow up visits twice a week since she had 100+ staples in her leg plus a big incision on either side of her stomach with staples. I mentioned her pale purple toes every visit and he kept saying 'lets' wait, toe can be resilient and bounce back'. At one point he even said I was too eager to chop her toes off, lol.

The gangrene in her big toe can be compared to frostbite, it didn't spread but rather separated from the healthy part of the toe slowly over time. The Dr. said it may in fact come off on it's own and he was right.

We cleaned and rebandaged it tonight and it looks fabulous for half a toe, lol. Theres no leaking, pain or smell. There is no exposed bone. It is one of the craziest things I've ever seen.

Sorry it's such a gross topic but I had to tell someone~! I have some spectacular pictures that I'm *not* going to share

Girl, I watched them remove a bone from my husbands finger and sew up the remaining part- pictures wont bother me a bit. I even took pics at the Er- sadly, they didnt come out good- LOL Of course, I butcher all my own animals, so its all normal to me anyway. LOL

Praying its the body healing itself, and that she has no more complications- I am glad there is no pain this time- your feet having pain is the most miserable.
you tend to use them ALOT- LOL

if there is no off smell, discharge or red streak, your right, it might be a seperation of healthy and dead tissue. And thats a good thing. :) i would still ask for an antibiotic though. or at least self medicate with LOTS of rotgut whiskey for a week or three ;-) LOL

I'll make a private album and link you to it, I'm not going to post that in open forum or publicly in my photobucket!

WOOT!

Congratulations Leanne and of course to her own L'bug!!! She's beautiful! What an important milestone! Have a blast today!!!!

Speaking of blasts, the heat/humidity here is overwhelming. I did my outside errands early so I could avoid it when it became even hotter. Must have been in the mid 80s when I was out and I was sick to my stomach then. Going to once again hide out (and work) in my cool crystal cave and avoid the peak of the heat.

Meanwhile, now that my sons are off from college for the summer, it's been social central here. Friends coming and going at all hours. My older son's girlfriend just graduated from college and she's practically living here. In a couple of weeks she's going to be studying at Alvin Ailey for her second summer in a row. We're an hour or so by train from Manhattan so she'll be commuting. Her intent is to become a professional dancer (and yes, she is that good) and I'm sending signals out into the Universe that the dance company hires her. :)

Meanwhile, here's a cute video I hope you all EnJoy! Have a great day ((((PIF))))!!!!
