Looking for bare-bones dirt-cheap auto insurance. Any suggestions?

Check out (Whatever) Farm Bureau--their rates here were less than anyone else's "downpayment." Dunno exactly what it would be for you since some places they seem to be set up by state and some by county, but my rates have been going down steadily for two years.

And they haven't raised the rates on the wife's car (yet) even after she rear-ended the Deputy Director of Homeland Security here...

Geico; get the biggest deductible on your car as you can if its old.

Geico is seriously the most expensive insurance company here. Their rates are evidently based more on location than anything else, because I have not heard of anybody here getting a competitive quote from them, but there are little pockets across the country where they actually do seem to be in the business of insurance rather than "misleading" advertising...

Ok it must be your tickets my coverage for both John and I is $156 every 6 months. But I have never had a ticket and John hasn't had one in 5 years. I bet your age makes a difference too. Sorry that is the cheapest i found

I'd bet it's location. When I was making the rounds of insurance quotes a couple years ago, I was a 44 year old male with no tickets for six years and no accidents in ten. Geico's cheapest policy was still almost $200 a month. Farm Bureau, on the other hand, was $240 for six months. I've since added another car and the policy is right at $310 now...

You are probably right pwyll. Midwest with no bug cities near, and we live out in the country. I think the fact that since I work at home and neither of us drives to work helps a lot too. So it is kind of like the little old lady that only drives to the grocery store kind of thing.
