If you don't expose yourself to the germs your body won't know how to fight them and then when you do catch some, you're skrewed. I;m not saying that I have a habit of rubbing my face on toilet seats, but I'm not extra cautious. I mean, we evolved from a species that smelled, touched and probably on more than one occasion, ate their own poop.

Sathara you're preaching to the choir. I carry hand sanitizer on a key chain.

Oddly enough, I don't use hand sanitizer all that often. I'm actually pretty allergic to it. Someone used it on a plane I was on one of the last times I flew and I very nearly had an asthma attack and I don't have asthma. I've actually started carrying Benedryl in case that happens again. Got it stopped the last time I flew because as soon as I smelled the sanitizer gel, I took it.

They also used to die at 30 from a host of different diseases caused by a lack of sanitation.

Being overly cautious and having no exposure is a tad different, imho, than not taking all possible precautions to prevent an e coli infestation. There is no immunity you can build up to that stuff.

Actually Sallana is right about this one, they are now finding that asthma and other childhood disieses are directly related to todays clean home prevalence. if you are not exposed to the germs whatever is on this earth, you dont develop the necessary immunities to live on the earth.
This applies to common illnesses too.
My house is clean , but I limit the use of sanitizers to the kitchen and bathroom.

Lox it must be hard to do what you do being a germaphobe. How do you handle touching doorknobs?

Actually they are extremely germ resistant and most are treated now. Money is the same. Germicidal ink. Never dries. Take your fingernail and rub a dollar bill hard on white paper - you'll get green ink. It never dries due to the germicide in ink.

This is aimed more toward people who purelle every 5 minutes than people who open the door with a tissue..I've done that a few times in real scummy bathrooms. I have in-laws who are intolerable when it comes to this stuff. When they had their first daughter (and now their first son) they literally made me scrub up like I was going in for surgery and then, they squirted purelle on my hands.

I understand washing before you handle a baby, I requested others do that myself when my son was real young. But demanding two different kinds of soap AND purelle is a little over the freaking top.

Of course, I'd never tell her that. It's her kid and her prerogative, but I know that her daughters first cold ended up in pneumonia and then a hospital stay for 3 days because her little body just had NO immunity.

Oh yeah, I know that type. Thankfully I have an aversion to very young babies so I never want to hold them anyhow.

I've got to remember to tell that to my husband the next time he complains about dust or that our house is cluttered. "But, honey, I'm just maintaining your immune system!"
