My old Aussie, Heidi, was never into recycling, I would take her out with me when the snow first started to melt and she would find them for me to pick up (she got treats).

The two new fuzzies have both, unfortunately, shown a slight predilection to reuse. Trying some banana pieces to up their potassium.

I have a strange question and since this is such a diverse group of people, I thought that I'd ask here.

I was adding some things to my memories box and went through the pictures. John, my HS best friend, had AIDS and lived with me on and off for many years. He passed away in 2001. I have over a decade of photos of him. His mom, while always nice to me and accepting of him, is old money upper class and John wasn't exactly "relaxed" around her. This would definitely be a different side of him than she has ever seen before. I have pictures of him camping, riding mountain bikes, in drag, with boyfriends, pictures from a play that he was in (that she never knew about- before he came out), all kinds of happy photos of her son.
Would it be weird to get a package of photos? It's been 9.5 years since his death. I wouldn't want to open up the grieving process. I'd just want her to see all the things that she never got to see.

So, as a parent, would you want a huge box of photos of your son after he passed away?

If you can include a sweet note, I'd definitely want the pictures.

A year to the week after my FIL died my MIL received a hug box of pictures from her former daughter in law. The ex-daughter in law lived out of town and didn't know that father in law had died...her oldest child was graduating and she had been going thru pictures for the graduation party and came across a ton of pictures taken over the 10 yrs she was married to my BIL of his side of the family. She decided my BIL's kids might want the pictures - and since she didn't know how to get a hold of BIL (her ex) , she mailed the box to my MIL.

It was so wonderful. We'd all gathered that weekend because it was the anniversary of my father in law's death and my MIL's birthday (he died 2 days before her birthday)...it was wonderful to have the pictures. Many of them I hadn't seen because they were taken when my FIL was visiting at BIL's house.

Long story short - If you're doing it from a place of goodness - then send the pictures with a note.

Thanks for the responses!
I'll definitely add a sweet note. I loved him and she was kind enough to not leave me out of anything family related at the very end. I'll make copies of the photos and spend a while figuring out just what I want to say.

((I won't even tell her about bailing him out of jail, another thing she doesn't know :) ))

LOL - DH has picked up 2 guy friends from jail! Only had to post bail for one of them.

The first was a co-op student (way back in the day before cell phones) who got picked up for vagrancy outside of Nashville when he ticked off his date/ride...so the kid called DH because 1) he knew his number and 2) he knew we didn't have kids and DH would drive the TWO HOURS to come get him. The police didn't charge him as he had a ride home when DH picked him up - it was more a formality than anything...

The other was a co-worker a couple of years ago - A young Frenchman with a big mouth - ticked off a cop who'd pulled him over for speeding
(cop: WHy were you doing 95mph in a 55mph? YFM: Because I could.)
It was a bit of bull...., but none-the-less resulted in a phone call at 1am...and $300 bail. Again, they started work the same day and he called DH because he didn't know anyone else in town. THAT was the night we found out the we could only get $200 out of the ATM. Thank goodness I had some cash stashed due to our recent move and changing of banks...

I dread the day my boys are old enough to tell me stories about things I'm best not knowing... :)

Aids related dementia is a weird thing. John drove himself to Walmart and stole a CD. It was stupid. He had money. The dementia led to him "repeating" days, like the movie Groundhog day. He'd swear that we'd eaten at Pizza Hut for three days in a row. We'd have to get our order to go and then take him to another restaurant.

This is my favorite story: One day, his mom called me and asked me to come over and help her with John. It was cold and raining and he was standing in his mom's backyard holding a limb of a huge magnolia tree- talking with God through the tree. I asked him if he had taken more of his pain meds than he should have. He said yes. His mom was on the porch watching us. I was like, God is bigger than that tree, let's go inside. He resisted. I broke off the stupid tree limb and led him in the house, with him still holding onto it. I took him upstairs, counted his meds and figured out that he had taken more of the nausea medicine (marinol). I determined that he couldn't OD on it and just spent a night listening to him talking to God.

Yeah, it's best not knowing things like that, if you're the parent :)
