I'm so sorry that this is happening. :( I'm also terrified of every procedure too. I was so afraid to have my gallbladder out that I suffered with horrendously painful attacks for almost 2 years rather than consent to the surgery. Finally, I had a very bad attack, my gallbladder was full of infection and I had to be hospitalized and pumped with IV antibiotics. The doctors told me, "Your gallbladder has to come out or you are going to die." So I finally had it out; it wasn't nearly as bad as I imagined it would be. So I definitely know how your poor husband is feeling... :(

My father had a quadruple bypass 17 years ago. The procedure saved his life; the doctors said he had a 98% blockage. He only took off 2 weeks from work and he's in good shape today. He quit smoking, exercises and he's got a healthy heart now. I've heard the procedure is more precise today. My thoughts will be with you and your hubby.

Also, I'd consider calling the doctor, explaining your hubby's nerves and asking about a small prescription of valium or ativan. That's what I had to do before I finally had my gallbladder out; in fact, my doctor wrote on the top of my hospital admission papers, "Ms. Jeanne is to be given 20mg of valium via IV immediately upon admittance." I think he was afraid that I'd bolt and leave the hospital.
