How crazy is this? (I just need to say this and can't on facebook, for obvious reasons)
My mom is retired. She doesn't leave the house much. She can but she doesn't. She hasn't been to the grocery store in weeks. I offered to go to the grocery store for her. She lives over an hour away. Now, she wants to go to the grocery store WITH me.
This has been happening a lot lately. She waits for me to offer to do stuff for her, so she doesn't have to go anywhere alone. I'm not exactly sure if I'm helping. You know what I mean??? I think that I may be making the situation worse.

Does she suffer from depression at all Enid? I only ask because I do.... I also have a bit of social anxiety..when it gets bad (it does on and off) ..I dont like to go places... especially alone.... I really feel awkward and out of place. Ill let things go all week until my hubby is off on Friday... I really have to push myself to get out there.

Me too Sensay,it drives my family crazy.I sometimes need a big hard push and a hand to hold,LOL.I am kind of anti social because of the fear.I like everybody,I just have a hard time socially.Hard for others to understand sometimes.

It really is! I am sorry you have it as well. But made me smile a little that it seems you understand perfectly. It really is hard for people to understand... they want you to snap out of it or something...

I am the same way, my husband understands and doesn't make me feel bad for it. I actually went for about 2 years that I only left the house every 6 weeks to go to the doctor and I wouldn't sleep for 2 days before just because I knew I had to go out. If it wasn't for the computer I wouldn't have outside contact. It is really not that she is playing you Enid, she really does need you right now for whatever reason.

Enid: DH's mom started this when his dad died. She's perfectly capable. Doesn't suffer from depression or anything like that, but emotionally has decided she "can't" do things on her own. Before he died she mowed their grass. Suddenly incapable. Go to the bank (1.5 miles away) Can't go by herself anymore. Church. Ditto. The only thing she still does on her own is her bible study on Wednesdays. 2 of DH's siblings blame themselves for not making her do it on her own. For coddling her. The worst part is NO ONE will talk to her about it now. They just suck it up and continue. We don't have a dog in the fight - we live 3.5 hours away and after the 1st summer, DH made it clear he wasn't going to assist in making her a cripple. (Of course it's my fault (sigh))

Do you have the type of relationship with your mom where you could ask her how she's making the transition from working to retired? Maybe let her know you're a little concerned?

Take care of yourself and your mom Enid.

I have been trying to be so patient waiting for my GLV's to come. When I talked to Jay last week he said I should have them by friday but I still haven't even got shipping info yet. Guess I am just feeling let down and a little depressed and needed to vent. I am sure I will have them soon and be happy as ever.
