I don't know if I'm getting upset for no reason, opinions please.

Bear with the somewhat long story.

Last June my mom went to the hospital for a surgery. Tony and I were dog sitting whie she was in the hospital and the dog (Loopy) got away. This was June 27th. I hunted high and low. Ad in the paper, she was mentioned on the radios 'pet patrol' segment, I put up at least 100 flyers offering a reward on light poles and at local businesses. Called the shelter, every vet...even went as far as to contact a friend who works for the highway department and she checked the 'roadkill log'.....nothing! She just vanished without a trace.

Yesterday Tony's mom heard on pet patrol that someone found a small 'chihuahua like' old dog not far from where Loopy disappeared from. When I got home mom told me she heard pet patrol too and she called and talked to the girl. My mom described Loopy and the girl said it sounded like the dog she had, only she said she didn't think the dog could hear well. She tried calling her Loopy and 'ya-ya' (her nickname) and the dog didn't respond.

The girl said she was waiting to hear from another woman who she thought the dog belonged to. After my mom told me all this we decided it was possible that the dog may be Loopy. My mom called and left a mesage last night just in case the other woman wasn't the owner.

We hadn't heard back when I got up today, so I called and the girl told me that she had taken the dog to the woman because the woman called animal control!? I asked the girl if I could show her a picture of Loopy, went to the bar she works at and she said the dog she had looked JUST like Loopy except her tail was about half as long and her face was a little whiter.

Loopy had been turning whiter pretty rapidly the last year we had her.....could she have been in some sort of accident and lost part of her tail?? Is it possible this woman may have my dog?? Should I try to go to this womans house or just forget about it??

So sad right now

You are NOT getting upset for no reason. I know I would be upset if I was in your shoes. I would try to go to the woman's house, if it was me. Just to see if it is Loopy. That way you will know for sure one way or the other, and you can stop worrying about it.

Check it out, no harm in verifying. My neighbor's dog got out in November and I coordinated a small neighborhood search party, walking the grid, as it were. My development has a large area under construction and I was out there in the cold till about 2300, no dog. Some intelligence coming back from the feeler questions mentioned a dog of like size, color, breed in certain areas and a possible contact or two. Ran those to ground, still no luck. At that point, I stopped, but my neighbor (the owner of the dog) called all the housing contractors/subcontractors to see if anyone had picked up a dog around that date/time (we had some intel that a construction guy was petting a like dog). Turns out some dude picked up the dog and took it down to Richmond with him (that's about an hour away). They ended up getting the dog back when the ear RFID tag popped when he took the dog to the vet for a "check up".

Never give up, never surrender (one of my favorite movies).

I'd go and make sure if it's possible. Otherwise, you're going to bothered by the chance that it is/was Loopy. That would be remarkable, though, to have Loopy show up in that location nearly a year later. But, you definitely need to make sure one way or the other.

As far as MN, I have no real idea. I do know that rumors tend to fly fast in FSUSA's forum, so I'd take anything I read there with a grain of salt. I don't know exactly what happened a few months ago, but someone asked about a couple of other SA's and was told that one of them was having family issues. Of course it was quite a shock to the person, who had had some sort of falling out, not family issues, to log on and find their inbox full of well wishes and prayers. I only go in there if I'm looking for a sale, or if I'm itching for some soap opera action.

I would check, because- say last june this woman found a dog, decided to keep him, and wouldnt give him back- or honestly didnt know someone was looking for him. I have taken in older stray dogs before that either ran away or were dumped out.

and I have had dogs stolen before- full grown dogs-

AND, my MIL had her dog go missing for 4 years, and one day he showed back up.

that's kind of whats rolling around in my head

I'm waiting for a call back from the lady who found the dog. I asked if she would give me the other ladys address or phone number so I can see the dog face to face.

It would be.....so crazy if she had Loopy.

I wonder if the lady took in Loopy last June and got all antsy because she knew the real owner heard the pet patrol thing so she bullyed the finder into giving her the dog back. This may sound paranoid of me, but the way my son tries to adopt dogs in the neighborhood, it seems possible.

I often find dogs running loose in my neighborhood and nab them and bring them home with me so they don't get killed on the train tracks or end up in the canal by me. I always put them in the front enclosed part of my yard so their owners can walk by and see them. One time it took hours for the owners to show up. Last night a dog was running loose, and a fellow leashed him real quick. At the end of the night, he still hadn't heard from the owners. Soooooo, maybe the woman did the same thing, but then as time went by, grew quite attached to Loopy. Couldn't hurt to drive by and check.

The one thing that has made me feel a little bit better about the thought of Loopy possibly being in another home....when we lost her I was going to the shelter every night to check the 'dump cages' in the back. On the 3rd night I found this little shadow hovering in the back of the big cage...the food bowl was bigger than her. Fisrt glance said puppy but a closer look said old....really old dog. I fought with myself for a minute and then I took her home with me {the shelter would have put her down without a second thought}

It was the best thing I could have done, my mom loves her, me too of course~! The vet estimates her to be 8-10.....Loopy was 10 when I lost her. I see how happy Tika is at moms house with us and it makes me think Loopy could be just as happy with someone else.
