I had to go grocery shopping so my son will have stuff while Im gone to Miami for surgery.Im forcing myself through the store,in pain, dizzy and nauseous.Trying to get it over with and go home and lay down and hubs is driving me nuts. Why is it that men don't understand that we are ill and just need to get stuff done.We don't want to joke around and go somewhere else just to buy hamburger? Why do we have to keep saying Im in pain.Im dying here.I need help.Do they think it changed from 5 minutes ago?I think Im going to lay down now.Sorry for complaining,Im kinda grouchy, lol.

Wow - so cute! Mybe a squirrel would be a good alternative to a rat? We love our rats - but they are just so short lived :(. One of ours starting to sound kind of bad -- right around that accursed three year mark. I swear when I was young that they lived 5-6 years easy - they sure don't seem to now.
Was the squirrel quirky and full of personality like rats are?
Sure looks like a load of fun and with them lasting Twenty years like you said - that would be awesome!
:)

Well, I rasied this one a few years ago:

He was just the sweetest thing. Anyway, the evil squirrel started with a picture that Lox posted:
squirrel-whip.jpg

I made it my avi and started telling PIF members that it had their addresses and GPS and that if they didn't behave, I'd send it! I think it was markfm that named it "Whippy"...so it's just gone on from there. The squirrel is mean, rabid and has a drinking problem...not something you want showing up at your door...it keeps PIF kids playing nice. :p

Doh - well just did some more digging - and apparently they are good pets for the first 6 months or so, then they are notso good pets - tend to bite/chew stuff and generally get ornery. Oh well - was a good thought aat least :)
I guess that ferrets are not living so long anymore either - something about the breeding or something like that has caused them to develop problems and stuff that limits how long they last now. Naf - love our rats. want a long living species though!

I hope you feel better and have a safe journey to and through surgery!

We can do battle of the sexes afterwards! ;-)

In the meantime, on your way out the door, accidentally bounce a cosmic superball into his.. err.. balls. He'll still be whining when you get home. -Magnus

You could get a parrot. I love mine and they have life expectancies of anywhere from 35 to 100 years! Also, super smart and just fun pets though they can be quite challenging. But, they aren't rodents.

Think "Chinchilla" ;) I had a pair years ago. I got them when they were both 10 and they lived another 2 years (female) and 3 years (male). They were kinda a rescue as the people who had them were breeding them and they had stopped breeding (so they thought, they had a little boy 4 months after I got them!). They were going to have them put down, the wife worked with my mother and told her this, so Momma asked if she could have them to give to me. :) I loved em...if you get just one, make sure you spend time with it, but they do well in pairs (I suggest two females) if the time you can spend with them is limited.

Oh, yeah, squirrels have real sharp parts and they don't mean to hurt you with them, but they sure do it often! Those nails are like razors.
