Well your ds sounds a lot like my ds & I guess we just got lucky w/the elementary he was in, they realized early on (he was already finished 1st & bored in pre-k) that he just HAD to have other things to do.

So most of his years there the teachers or principal would give him other things to do ...help the other students, work in the office or the library. His 5th grade year he worked in the office & library more than he was in his classes.

Academically Advanced Charter schools have been our saviors since ...he just has to be challenged & respected or he just won't co-operate. I can't even tell ya how many nights he would work on a project for hours, only to NOT turn it in & get a zero the next day. His usual excuses were like "I don't know why" to "she hates me & was going to fail me anyway". We went thru several teachers that pre-judged him & felt like he ought to "just sit & wait for the class to catch up" !! And They always tried to bull dog me into "making him do it " ...yeah right ... Just drove me crazy !!! But once we found a school where he was comfortable & felt understood, everything was/is great.

He is the 11th grade now & is only going to H.S.in the am, then he goes to a tech school where he is earning college credits ...he had taken all the classes he had any interest in the last few years, so the tech school deal was the only way I could see that we might keep his interest long enough to get his H.S. basics done & graduate . And he will have 27 credit hrs done when he moves on to college too.

He has always been academically advanced ,but very immature for his age. So we never wanted to test out of grades either.

I don't know how big of a city you live in but it might be worth looking around for a Charter or Magnet school that is advanced enough to HELP him realize his potential & hold his interest .

The one he is in now is Fine Art based & they seem to totally understand him. I am glad someone does ....cuz I still don't quite get it. I hope my babbling helped ya' somehow ......

Oh Kelley, you so get it. His teacher last year seemed to really get it, she just didn't have the tools at her disposal to really help him. There are no charter elementary schools here, but junior high starts in 6th and there are a few for that and lots for high school. I've known for a while that he was going to need a charter school once he gets past elementary. The new school is tons better than the last one, if only because the principal and psychologist both have kids similar to ds. You hit the nail on the head with the trust/respect aspect of it. This teacher is not used to having to earn it from kids ds's age, but he's too smart to blindly trust anyone. I just hope she's willing to make a few changes, because I really hate undercutting the school on anything, but will if I have to. She's already undercut her own authority by telling ds he wouldn't be allowed to do church basketball, when I would NEVER take out of something so positive and reassuring to him. I wrote down some notes on the back of hers. I just hope I can keep my temper in check, because the more I think about it, the more I REALLY dislike this lady.

Hey everyone- remember me? LOL

I am sitting here trying to dry burn and clean all my fluxo's and saphires. I DESPISE throwing away something I KNOW can be reused, and hate wasting money - But I dont think I ever do it right- they just DONt work the same.... But I keep trying. I let these soak for a few days- now I am trying to clean them up. They DO dry burn quicker.

funny thing- I put the date on a fluxo (black) of 9/5- It lasted till 9/13. But a new clear one only lasted me about 3 days. ??

Hi everyone. Been volunteering at kindergarten and, and spent today working with Hubby.

I noticed a few folks selling their mods. If anyone has a decent Buzz or a 5v that's not over $100 let me know, I keep missing them in the classies.
Thanks! Have a great week, good luck on all the contests!

Woo hoo! I've been upgraded again. I just realized that I went from senior member to super member! FYI: Some of you may know me formerly as user "allsonew". I changed my username and my avatar as a tribute to my all time favorite TV show, Lost. RIP. :(
