Guess I win since I've never heard the boom badoom bass song and have no intention of clicking Sallana's link! Won't be stuck in my head! :D

I'm with you. At work now and don't have sound anyway, but since I don't listen to pop music anymore I don't even know who Nicky Manaj Nicki Minaj is. Is he or she popular already, or one of those "rising stars?"

Wow. I never suspected it would feel this good to be "old and out of touch"

:censored:. All the humans in my house are now ill. :glare:

Then get them out of the house. Problem solved :thumb:

There, I got my man card back that I lost over in Mike's thread.

Also, I feel I must post this ridiculous photo of my child:

...

I am sorry, but I am missing the "ridiculous" part of the picture.

OMgosh - 3 sux with our boys. terrible twos my ....!

Yes. Rhianna was a dream at two. It was sometime after turning three that the devil came out in her.

Can anyone of a more literary bent tell me why it's important for our oldest son to memorize the 1st 18 lines of The Canterbury Tales in the original Olde English?

Other than the fact that The Canterbury Tales were written in Middle English, I don't know. If you want to see Old English, look up Beowulf in its original form. Old English is basically High German with a bit of French thrown in.

Back to the question--perhaps, with txtspk becoming so prominent everywhere in our culture, the teacher is simply trying to remove the possibility of learning standardized spelling and help the kids "revert" to a more randomly generated, phonetically based written language.
