I just read an article, Cigarette Litter --How Many? about cigarette litter, pretty facinating. Seems we could spin the negativity towards e-cigs in a new direction if we touted them as the environmentally friendly alternative.

Some highlights of the article;

In 2007, approximately 360,000,000,000 cigarettes were smoked in the United States, that is at least 135,000,000 lbs of cigarette waste, the majority of which is acetate and fiberglass from the filters.

Every year during the International Coastal Cleanup, cigarette butts top the list as the most abundant item collected worldwide.

In 2007 International Costal Cleanup collected 1,971,551 smoking related pieces of trash IN ONE DAY!. (A small fraction of what actually exists in the environment)

Now, the article makes it clear, the numbers are based on the number of cigarettes produced/consumed, but even the most environmentally conscious smoker throws his/her butts in the trash. Trash ends up in a landfill or God forbid, burned and released into our atmosphere. Cigarette butts are NON-Biodegradable, and the affects of burning fiberglass and acetate on our environment would make Al Gore weep.

I'm not just a vaper, I'm an eco-vaper! God Save the planet, one e-cig at a time!
