Received today a package with what I have been waiting for a LONG LONG time. Meet the clear AFS. Finally I can see what is going on inside the tank with respect to the hole and the juice level. It is critical to know where the hole is at all times, even with standard atomizers you can be trying to get juice when the hole is not even in the juice. We learned this long ago with the beta and version one. I asked way back then if we could get a clear tank but imeo said it would break. Thanks to arry for letting me test this out for him.

ps. the leather cover on my Grant was a gift from Drew at nHaler (what a nice guy he is!) and it makes it so nice to use. Plus those new drip tips are pretty darn cool looking.

You would be surprised at how comfortable it really is. And it is keeping any scratches from forming on my nice shiny Grant.

I seriously doubt it will break. It is pretty robust and the walls of the tank are pretty thick. Acrylic is pretty durable stuff as it is used in wind shields for race cars.

oooppps I stand corrected. Acrylic is the material my tank is made from but arry tells me the future tanks will be made from a polycarbonate material.

Slight change was going to be polycarbonate, as i could only find a food safe plastic in polycarbonate , However polycarbonate although stronger than Acrylic has its draw backs

Key characteristics, Acrylic compared to Polycarbonate:
  • More likely to chip, less impact resistance than Polycarbonate. (still 10-24 times more resistant than float glass)
  • Less likely to scratch.
  • Does NOT yellow after time.
  • Better clarity. Acrylic can be restored to optical clarity by polishing.
Key characteristics, Polycarbonate compared to Acrylic:
  • Impact/chip resistance is much higher with Polycarbonate. (about 30 times more resistant than glass)
  • More likely to scratch.
  • Substantially more expensive. (roughly 2 to 3 times)
  • Used for more industry applications
  • Bulletproof when thick enough.
  • More bendable under normal temeratures (0-20°C)
  • Yellows over time due to ultraviolet rays
  • Easier to work with (cut, less likely to break)
  • Poorer clarity, diffuses light

So as one of the main reasons is to see the hole in the atty and liquid level.
Acrylic won .

Unless you hit it with a hammer i doubt it will break

Also have now found Food Safe Acrylic .

Breakage wise since it's cylindrical unless you drop it hard on something quite pointy the shape should help to prevent cracking.
I'd guess it would take a lot of abuse to break that tank.

I guess your right ... but I was speaking from experience with acrylic aquarium 1/2" thick breaking...

Pretty critical difference between a large rectangular tank joined at the corners with a couple of hundred pounds of water permanently trying to push the sides out and a small cylinder with a few ml in it.

nope this was I'm talking about 1/2" thick acrylic cracking when it was empty... Thank GOD , I've never experience an acrylic tank crank or breaking while it was full ... MAN !!! My fish ... lol

Eeek, that shouldn't happen, mind you I suppose if it had been filled for a period them emptied the material would have been stressed. It sounds like that was quite defective.

I'd guess that quite apart from the fish, the amount of water in a 1/2 inch thick walled tank would be prodigious, serious flood time.

That is a HV Cartomizer from cloud9vaping.co.uk . They are the best way to use the AFS. No flooding at all. Granted I can't get every last drop from the tank but I can get most of it. I can't say how nice it is to have a clear tank. I was able to vape all the way up to the point when I could see the juice was not covering the hole anymore. I wonder how many times I was trying to pull juice into the atty when the hole was not even close to being in the juice? I could have pulled a few fillings from my teeth a few times. Heck my jaw was hurting more than a few times trying to puff so hard to get juice to enter the atty. When we were using the laser holed atties I wish I would have just tried the cartomizer back then. I like you was under the impression that the atty would flood like crazy with a large hole. But with the filler material in the cartomizer holds the juice back enough to not flood out. A very cheap solution to an expensive device was under my nose the whole time. It was MWA that talked me into trying it out after he did it first. Then emonty was shortly there after with his thread about them.

That cartomizer came from Cloud9vaping.co.uk without a sticker on it. They ship to the US now and have those cartomizers in various resistances. They are quite nice for the AFS. Here is the link to them.. But I have also used them with the sticker on without any troubles.
