People are people. I work retail and I can literally tell you that at least once a day I get asked,'How much is that plant'? Well lets look at the big sign stuck to the same plant next to it with the price, and oh look, it's printed on the label too! ;)

Yeah, but they can learn...well i guess that's arguable especially if they don't even care.

Dee, The real problems are:

A) this is a subforum run by V4L, the ECF mods can and will delete or moderate this forum but they have the whole rest of ECF to cruise too! Non- complience to a way things are titled is not on their list of things to moderate. The people from V4L can moderate in here..but don't have time for P.C. stuff. They stay busy filling orders and working CS. When they come on here at night it's in their own time.

2) a lot of people here have never ever been on a forum. This is all new to them. Most titles are deemed 'Cute" by the poster or at least attention getting.

III) As vapers we are by nature rebels, we are bucking the system already just by vaping and fighting for our right to vape...we should also worry about titles? We don't need no stinkin' titles
Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Yeah, I know and that's why it would be great to get some user mods in this subforum. It works that way in many larger forums and works great to boot.

2) a lot of people here have never ever been on a forum. This is all new to them. Most titles are deemed 'Cute" by the poster or at least attention getting.

That's not an excuse but I guess it is the reality. We were all first time forum users before too. Updating the welcome matt (including the title of it :)) would help immensely. And also not being worried about hurting feelings, we should point them to it if their questions are answered within it.

III) As vapers we are by nature rebels, we are bucking the system already just by vaping and fighting for our right to vape...we should also worry about titles? We don't need no stinkin' titles

Happy Cinco de Mayo to you too - even tho it's Seis de Mayo now :). Anyway, thanks for sounding off but I really don't understand why this is being debated. The real and only relevant question is... "would more order and proper forum etiquette benefit all us users as a whole?" - my answer is a resounding yes and this subforum is not about fighting or rather keeping our right to vape; it's about discussing our v4l pvs and increasing usability aides in promoting higher quality discussions.

On every single forum on which I've been a participant (and in some cases owner or moderator) this has been an issue. I just shrug it off now...

That said, my favorite thread title in this category HAS to be "Question." I see that thread title over and over and over and over on every forum. Is there a title that gives less information? I don't think so! :D

Mary's right (as usual). The threads in here move too quickly to try and leash them like that; if I am all excited with my first whatever, it'd be a boring hassle to feel like it was PC to go search to see if anyone else had already talked about that, and bump it cause it disappeared into the mists two weeks ago - even if I'd happened to see it. And then everyone also has to wade thru the stuff they've already read, or jump to last page and read back, etc. I mean, it's a brand new, fresh, "OMG!!"

One of the nice things about this forum, IMHO, is that it rolls along with switchbacks and redundancies and new stuff all going along, like a rambling conversation, with no excess of rules. If a new person starts a thread that's called "Oh Mary and Joseph Wow!", and it's about how the Taryn spin really works (again), and another one pops up called "WTF???" asking how to fill cartos, or how come the batt holes are different, and another called "Hey! I hear there's antifreeze in these things! Did you guys KNOW that??? IS THAT TRUE???"... it's all just part of the flow. Someone will like answering.

Nice story Krishnamurti used to tell:
Two devils are talking together.
One says, "Oh no, I hear He's sending his son!"
Second devil says, "Oh, wonderful!"
First devil replies, "What? How can that be good for us??"
Second devil answers, "Oh, but it's perfect! We'll ORGANIZE it!!"

:-x It wouldn't be that way if we didn't have a million duplicate threads. You're bypassing one boring hassle (as you put it) by creating another hassle and not wanting search first is just plain lazy. PC? What does PC have anything to do with this? I think you meant etiquette. Let's agree to disagree on what makes a thread "nice" and also what is "excessive."

Right on Aubergine; I just want to add my $0.02 to this and another thread that's been gratefully moved deeper into the abyss regarding "newbs" vs "us oldtimers". I wouldn't be here if it weren't for the oldtimers, and if we take the position that they are no longer relevant, we lose an extremely important perspective. Another OP thinks that the veteran poster's WANT to be rude and obnoxious to newbs; this could not be further from the truth. All they are asking for is for people to take the little extra time to at least read through the stickies and welcome mat before they start bombarding the subforum with endless obvious questions, such that useful practical questions disappear in 5 minutes. I spent the months of December 09 and January 2010 lurking and learning before I even DARED to register and ask questions of the loyal few that are now being derided. Starting in February, I registered simply so I could give back and help others like I was helped, finally confident that I was knowledgeable enough to both ask and respond. Since that time, I have seen quite a few valuable gurus disappear from the V4L threads, probably due to the same feelings I am starting to have: No one listens, everyone asks the exact same questions over and over and over again, no one reads the stickies, no one can comprehend the simple use of the search engine, routine trolling, sniveling, etc. on and on.

There is room for everyone here, novice and guru alike. There are newb questions, and there are advanced questions; opinions, likes and dislikes. All are welcome, but PLEASE don't alienate some of the most knowledgeable and experienced users that used to troll this forum. A happy medium can be achieved, even with the substantial growth V4L has seen. Have any of you noticed the stats associated with this subforum? It's amazing; way more people are here than before. We must remember that this subforum belongs to V4L, and out of respect for them, we must keep it civil, but also lean. V4L staff will not intercede in petty arguments, they have to stay out of it since all of us are valued customers to them. It is up to us to use proper etiquette and maintain respect for each and every one trying to reach our mutual and common goal of a healthy and smoke-free lifestyle.

It's clear there are "fun" threads, "clueless question" threads, "thanks V4L" threads, "what's with this" threads, ,my and Born's long-gone favorite "Where's the juice" threads", "Adrenalynn" threads (how EXACTLY does this work please), "Born" threads (Dude!, how did you do THAT!), "Mary Kay" threads (don't make me come over there!), "Paw Paw" threads (in my day, we smoked birch bark and that's all we had!), "Uzzaperez" threads (get a clue before bothering me again!), "Keyzygirl" threads (just chill out dude and buy some more XL mans!) and so on and so on. This is so much fun and rewarding, so in closing, let's all do our part to keep it that way! My general problem is that the longer you're around on this forum, the more frustrating it gets; and that shouldn't be how it works. Thanks to all for your attention, devotion, and loyalty. A good night, next day, and life to you all.

PS: Maybe I shouldn't have posted this after observing the number of beverages that seem to be missing from my bar fridge; ah, what the hell. For those of you who have drifted away out of frustration or ambivalence, please come back - we miss you. :)

I wouldn't expect anyone to do a thorough stem-to-stern search of all forums before posting. But I don't think it's unreasonable to do a quick scan of the first page or two of posts to see if something is active. This is especially true when new flavors or equipment hit. It's almost guaranteed that there will be posts discussing them and they'll be pretty current.

And this is where we can help each other out too. Say you see a new thread about the new "widget" flavor, when you know there's another that's got three pages going. You could just pop into the new thread, link back to the original, and send the traffic there. You don't have to admonish them for not searching, it's just a friendly "come on over". No need to read it as anybody being a party pooper or a nazi.

As new people come in, it's a good thing to help them understand how things work. We all benefit from it.

Perfectly stated and relevant. Just look at how many threads there are on the NEW Battys. There all in the first few pages too.

I'm not trying to flame on anyone. I just believe some simple common sense practices goes a long way in improving the usability of this sub-forum. Anyway, I'm not going to discuss the merits of this suggestion anymore. I'll just put it into practice as Stephra has so nicely stated. But it would be nice to get some regulars to moderate and to also keep the welcom matt updated regularly.

You don't even need to do that. Most V4L topics/issues are on ECF and google will give you results from the forum.

Here's how.

On the first page, only, what, one result is from ECF, and only two at first skim are even e-cig related?

Don't fear the site: directive. It's not that tough.

Let me google that for you

Your same search terms - but _every single result_ is V4L related. So instead of 1:5 SNR, it's 10:0 SNR. Where I come from, that's a pretty excellent signal.

I'm not sure how we ever managed to get along before dEEzPuffs showed up to tell us everything we've been doing wrong....

I don't know either but seriously, I've found my ecig of choice and plan on being on this thread for a long time and that is why I care to make this sub-forum for usable. Has anything I've stated really been that unreasonable?

BTW, we've been members of this forum for about the same amount of time. I've made 70 posts and you've made 500 and I bet we've acquired the same amount of info. I just hope some of your extra 430 posts were contributions.

I just want more threads to be about ME, ME, ME.

Is that possible?

:)

It is possible. That's what many of these duplicate threads are about ... "ME" not as in you.

I was the same, a lurker just absorbing information before I took the leap to engage. i know i'm rather new here from a join date pt of view but I've taken a liking to the users here and hope to be active for awhile. the whole pt of me starting this thread was just as you stated. my bad for those that I may have offended.
