Right on Aubergine; I just want to add my $0.02 to this and another thread that's been gratefully moved deeper into the abyss regarding "newbs" vs "us oldtimers". I wouldn't be here if it weren't for the oldtimers, and if we take the position that they are no longer relevant, we lose an extremely important perspective. Another OP thinks that the veteran poster's WANT to be rude and obnoxious to newbs; this could not be further from the truth. All they are asking for is for people to take the little extra time to at least read through the stickies and welcome mat before they start bombarding the subforum with endless obvious questions, such that useful practical questions disappear in 5 minutes. I spent the months of December 09 and January 2010 lurking and learning before I even DARED to register and ask questions of the loyal few that are now being derided. Starting in February, I registered simply so I could give back and help others like I was helped, finally confident that I was knowledgeable enough to both ask and respond. Since that time, I have seen quite a few valuable gurus disappear from the V4L threads, probably due to the same feelings I am starting to have: No one listens, everyone asks the exact same questions over and over and over again, no one reads the stickies, no one can comprehend the simple use of the search engine, routine trolling, sniveling, etc. on and on.
There is room for everyone here, novice and guru alike. There are newb questions, and there are advanced questions; opinions, likes and dislikes. All are welcome, but PLEASE don't alienate some of the most knowledgeable and experienced users that used to troll this forum. A happy medium can be achieved, even with the substantial growth V4L has seen. Have any of you noticed the stats associated with this subforum? It's amazing; way more people are here than before. We must remember that this subforum belongs to V4L, and out of respect for them, we must keep it civil, but also lean. V4L staff will not intercede in petty arguments, they have to stay out of it since all of us are valued customers to them. It is up to us to use proper etiquette and maintain respect for each and every one trying to reach our mutual and common goal of a healthy and smoke-free lifestyle.
It's clear there are "fun" threads, "clueless question" threads, "thanks V4L" threads, "what's with this" threads, ,my and Born's long-gone favorite "Where's the juice" threads", "Adrenalynn" threads (how EXACTLY does this work please), "Born" threads (Dude!, how did you do THAT!), "Mary Kay" threads (don't make me come over there!), "Paw Paw" threads (in my day, we smoked birch bark and that's all we had!), "Uzzaperez" threads (get a clue before bothering me again!), "Keyzygirl" threads (just chill out dude and buy some more XL mans!) and so on and so on. This is so much fun and rewarding, so in closing, let's all do our part to keep it that way! My general problem is that the longer you're around on this forum, the more frustrating it gets; and that shouldn't be how it works. Thanks to all for your attention, devotion, and loyalty. A good night, next day, and life to you all.
PS: Maybe I shouldn't have posted this after observing the number of beverages that seem to be missing from my bar fridge; ah, what the hell. For those of you who have drifted away out of frustration or ambivalence, please come back - we miss you.
