From a leading voice of sanity, reason & science, here's Clive's most recent posting on the radical change of attitude:
Public Health England goes positive on e-cigarettes

I like the observation that this could impact the how regulations are formulated, and possibly play in with legal challenges.

There is hope yet!

This is so sad....

When I think of how the authorities are approaching this in other countries I feel a rare stirring of national pride! For example see:

CDC Director explains what he hates about e-cigarettes – LA Times interview
Health Canada advises Canadians not to use e-cigarettes and declares them illegal
Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration stresses dangers, harms, poison, law-breaking and fraud
Public Health Wales can see only downsides and calls for use in public places to be banned by law - which the Welsh Government dutifully offers to do

There is a lot of positive talk in the UK but that's all it is - talk. Talk is worthless, only actions count. The government have done everything possible so far to enable harsh restrictions (aka a ban) on ecigs, especially by supporting the EU at several critical points when opposition might have slowed things down a bit - and now they don't need to do anything more because the EU will do it for them.

They are masters of the political game: say one thing but do another. Clive likes to be positive, but facts are what counts - and the UK government will probably implement harsher support for EU restrictions on ecigs than any other European state. Money talks, health is irrelevant.
