For one minute lets take China out of the picture entirely. Lets say Syria, Afghanistan, and N Korea made excellent clones for the price China sells them now. Would you buy one? Or would you get ripped off by the authentic company?

This is another example of someone going way outside of their area of expertise and misleading good-intentioned people coming to this forum to get relavent information. You really should be more considerate to them and everyone else here trying to help.

If I take the authentic and the clone and right next to each other and let them sit for a year they will both remain the same. If I put liquid in both of them and let them sit a year things just might change... That is called corrosion. Who on earth are you trying to help. I don't know about mod makers. Guitar makers have, little by little, moved to China, too. Epiphone, which has been owned by Gibson for some time. They first had them made in Japan, and they were excellent guitars and are still highly sought after. Then they went to S. Korea, and they were still pretty good guitars. Now they're made in China, and you can tell. Although I'm pretty sure Gibson still retains the name and profits.

Plagiarism is simply being used here (granted in a somewhat facetious manner) as an analogy to emphasize that other things in this thread are being presented as illegal and immoral when they really aren't. As you said Willy; It's all a matter of degree and real intentions.

Generics are probably 90%, 95%, 99% ((I don't really know for sure)) of the market. This is the case for many reasons that have already been discussed here and elsewhere. It is the global marketplace that is behind it, not us as individuals.

U.S. Companies mentioned here make beautiful equipment, no doubt about it. But with a staff of 15 machinists they are never going to meet the total demand. Even the manufacturers say this. Most of the "Authentics" are for hobbyists and people who appreciate fine, old-world, craftsmanship. We have to accept that without assembly lines and automation it is just that; old world. I'm not being negative, that's why I love the old hand-crafted, pre-64 Winchester Lever Actions.

All said, I simply do not understand why anyone is condemning anyone else for buying generics, in most cases we have no other choice, in other cases we simply cannot justify the expenditure.

Either way, we're Americans and entitled to freedom of choice. The U.S. Manufacturers are doing just fine and they even comment that "Imitation is the greatest form of Flattery".

So in the illustrious words of Forest Gump: "That's all I have to say about that" oh-oh, is that plagiarism?
