Different boards of the same wood have different coloration and patterns when dealing with mahogany (a problem I don't much have with cherry). If you got another desk caddy a month from now using mahogany it will probably be different than the ones you have.

Sorry, not much I can do about it.

I kind of expected mine to be a little darker also but after having it for over a month I really love the lighter shades of mahogany!:) that's not to say I didn't love it the first day I took it out of the box :D:D You are right Cappy, mahogany varies in shades drastically even in the same lots of wood. Kinda luck of the draw ;-)

Well, long day but I'm done.

I got the website ready for the sale of mods at 9 pm tomorrow, hopefully I didn't screw anything up!

I also finished building another Destroyer and Cutlass. The Destroyer had a Evolv dna30 installed and the Cutlass got a clone dna30 board.

I am going to use the Cutlass for a bit and see what I think of it. It's a fine looking beaste, I used a zebra wood body and some figured oak as side panels. Since I started using it this afternoon I have had no issues, but time will tell.

From the data I've seen across the internet the main issues with the clone boards are that the wake up time is 3 seconds (evolv's is 1.5 seconds) and that it misreads the atty resistance by up to .3 ohms (which wouldn't affect your vape taste much at all).

The serious thing I've read is that there have been some regulators melting down during use. I don't have further data on it but if there is any truth to the reliability then the few clones that I have will be put away for posterity like others before it (I have a half dozen vamo regulators stashed away I never used).

I planning on a day off soon, maybe a day or two next week. We will see.

Have a great weekend all, arrrr

Normal variations in a natural product.

You should see the nightmare it is to board match in the furniture industry - think dining table top or case goods !
That's why unless it's a much smaller piece [even chair splats are a bear], the finish is usually a VERY dark tinted NGR stain followed by even darker top and finish coats.
It has a beautiful depth of finish when done properly, but those nearly black 'imperfection' covering finishes are not to my taste.

I love the look of mine - it's rare to see it in the natural coloration.
Actually took several photos as the camera made some streaking show up from the grain that's not there with the naked eye.

Didn't want folks to be turned off who've never seen it go from forest to home before.

Absolutely. Most people have only seen seen mahogany with the "furniture" finish and don't realize how beautiful a piece can be with a couple of coats of clear polyurethane :thumb:

Ok, as long as it's mahogany....otherwise they be a mutiny! Lol. No, it's grain looks like mahogany and I'm not unhappy with it. It's still purty!

So, I'd like to introduce a crew member....

image.jpg

Got it from Wahoo in his classies sale. Takes me forever to get anything going....

It's a Cutlass II VV - Curly tiger maple/Honduran rosewood burl panels. I'm very happy with VV. VV or DNA is all the same to me as long as I can get a satisfying vape.

Would someone post a link to the pics page for me?

Cappy, maybe the pics thread should also be a specs thread, so members have a place they can go for answers without having to read the larger thread, or be asking questions that have already been answered. Like, what RBA's can be used on RSM's or what batteries are peeps using, etc.

Ahoy, happy Saturday all.

The picture thread and any other thread about RSM are member created and I have no control over them.

I could amass updated info about what people are using on their RSM's and post it. I'll give that some thought.

-------

So far the Cutlass with the clone dna30 regulator is working flawlessly. The only thing I do different is give the fire button a quick click to wake up the regulator from sleep as soon as I pick it up. Then it is ready to vape by the time I take a vape from it.

-------

Mornin Cappy,
So how is the "free for all" tonight going to work? ie, at what point will the mods be posted. I know 9pm eastern is zero hour. :D

The mods are already up on the website but hidden. I just have to active them.

The only worry I have is if two people try to check out at the exact same time and I get two completed checkouts for the same item. It happened once before.

Also, I will try to remove sold mods as quickly from the site as I can, but ensure that the mod you want is "In stock" before trying to purchase or you will waste time and get an error message during checkout.

One last mod update tonight.

I finished the last Destroyer in the batch.

DNA30 (Evolv), Zebra wood body with Gabon Ebony side panels and DNA style button.

This has been one of my favorite configurations for a long time now, the ebony just looks awesome in the zebra wood body IMHO.

and as people were wondering what the insides look like, I will show you!

Now this is the Zebra / figured oak Cutlass that has the clone 30 watt regulator in it.

I'm not sure if it should go up on the website, but I've been vaping on it for the last 24 hours and have had no issue with it. I'm thinking I should keep it for further evaluation though. It seems to be working fine and the price of a mod with a clone regulator is 20 bucks cheaper as a genuine evolv is almost twice the price.

and another shot of the insides of a Cutlass...

Off I go, time to get the website ready.... arrr

Wow those look great as always Cappy. If I wasn't saving for my Desteoyer 26 I'd be fighting for a mod tonight

Speaking of which....

I've disappointed you for too long... very sorry about that! Would you please tell me what your dream mod would be and I will do what I can to give it to you? You can PM me if you wish and we can discuss it or here on the thread is fine.

Except for the Curly redwood, Brazilian Imbuia, Bocote, Zebrawood, I think any other wood is going to have to be sandwiched with other wood to make it thick enough for a 26650 mod.
