Interesting. Would have expected it to be more brittle.

Well.... after growing up in the carpentry and cabinetmaking fields, spending a decade in the ultra high end furniture business (think $40k dining table), and puttering around nowadays.... I can tell you I wouldn't want to try doing CA ! :p

Let me rephrase that... it depends what you mean by plasticy... to me, plasticy is what happens when you poly wood and leave teensy bubbles, so the result looks like you covered it with saran wrap (without the folds).

The effect of the CA, and also Cappy's DNA30 I just got, is of a high quality wood veneer, but solid. The wood is I guess sort of plasticy because it's perfectly smooth and not porous... but definitely wood, just super polished looking. I've seen CA used most in expensive handturned pens these days... it's almost glass-like, but tougher than you think in terms of scratching.

Actually... I sanded my CA mod with 2500, then 1200, then 600 sandpaper, in that order ... it had some really light swirling. I'm sure most people wouldn't even notice, but it bothered me because otherwise it was perfect. The sandpaper didn't dent it, but I didn't want to go to 220 or 100, and as I only wanted to remove surface swirls, I didn't want to apply too much pressure. Then, one day, I really went at it with a 0000 steel wood pad, and the swirls are only slightly less visible. After continual hand rubbing for months, the swirls are still visible, meaning no wear at all. CA is way tougher than I would have believed. I tried a small experiment with CA on an old rosewood utensil set I had, and it definitely takes skill to apply, and also lots of sanding.

But then, I've got zero woodworking skill.

I just realized why I love the asymmetrical pattern on my mod's spalted wood ... it looks like smoke (ok, vapor)!

Ok so the doorbell rings and it's the mail carrier. Says I need to sign for something. So I sign and go into the house and I notice the package is from the Capt'.
Wait. What??? It was just sent yesterday!

Well here is my Bloodwood Cutlass in all it's splendor. It is to me a most magnificiant work of art. A Stunning, Classy, Elegant, and Rich looking. As Glassgal has stated the finish on this is unreal. The veins line up perfectly and the color of the Bloodwood is spectacular!

Capt' you are a true artist and craftsman and I Thank you very much!!!:toast:

That is a beauty! I love bloodwood... my woodvils are both bloodwood. But there are so many nifty types of wood, I didn't want to have multiples of a single wood. But I gotta tell you, bloodwood is possibly my all time favorite wood. That said, please keep it out of the sun, UV light will turn the blood red brown sooner rather than later. It's one of the hardest woods, and heavier than most. It's also lightly fragrant. Great stuff:).

Thanks Glassgal it is really nice looking. It wasn't my first choice but let me tell you I am so glad I got this one instead. As far as the sun is concerned, I, like you, live in the sunshine state so it will be difficult but maybe I'll make a little umbrella for it!! :D

I never had a DNA 30 before. I have just a bridgeless atty on it now at 1.5 ohms while I wait for the brass rm v2 to come. Is it normal for the screen to keep flashing the ohm reading?

Hi LJ,

It's flashing because the wattage setting and 1.5 ohm coil is causing it to run below 4 volts. Same thing was happening with mine. I just built a 2.0 ohm coil and raised the wattage to 8.8. Its firing happily at 4.5 volts and it stopped flashing. Hope this helps.

ETA I had 1.4 ohm coil when mine was flashing.

Hi LadyPharaoh.

Thanks! Your tip did the trick. I bumped up the wattage and no flashing now.
And I want to tell you I LOVE the Giants. Moved here 3 1/2 years ago and I pay Direct TV a Fortune to watch my NY Teams!

Awesome! Glad it worked for you. :)

Ahhhh our G-men... The things we will do to see them, huh? I hear you about mega $$ to watch. Crazy work schedule makes it hard to watch on Sunday so I subscribe to NFL Game Rewind and watch on 'puter or ipad when I have time. Hoping everybody stays healthy and they have a good season.

First, LadyPharaoh, thanks for the tip on the flashing DNA30... mine was flashing too... I just thought it was supposed to do that... O.O. LOL!

My mom moved from Harmon Cove Towers down here to Florida... which is the bldgs (the big red ones that stick out of the Meadowlands like a sore thumb) a lot of the Giants lived in Secaucus, since it's just down the road from Giant Stadium. While I'm not a huge football fan, every time I visited her, I'd often see these huge guys in the lobby and on the elevators, so that brings back memories. I also live in Florida! Small world:)!

Definitely a small world. Gives me an idea... Since you and LJ are in FL and I'm about 2 yards from the state line, it's a very real possibility that the three of us could commandeer the next mail truck leaving Cappy's place. We have a couple months to plan. :D

Truer words... Maybe he's saving it for the games that count? (pleasepleaseplease)

I just love when he throws a interception and puts that dumb look on his face as he walks back to the bench. Then he throws three 4th quarter TD's to win the game. Geez do I have to suffer anymore I'm a Met fan for Gods sake isn't that enough!!! :D
