Well it's been a bit of drama here this morning. At 9, the idiot who was bringing the pastries called and mentioned that Croissant D'or was closed. Duh! Maybe you should like check before hand? Anyway, so off I went to the grocery store. Luckily I have go-to recipe for just such a situation: Chocolate Cavity-Maker cake. it starts with a box chocolate cake recipe and includes, among other things, chocolate chips and Kahlua. I pretty much only needed to pick up the box, lol. It's baking as we speak and dinner is saved!

What she said. :D

On the home front, my friends finally left. Several surprises: first, the dish I got the most compliments on was the simplest. I cubed some sweet potatoes, tossed them in olive oil, salt, pepper and some fresh rosemary and roasted them at 400 until tender. I gotta admit they were awesome: a bit sweet, a bit salty, with a punch from the rosemary. The other surprise was the beverage one of my friends brought to serve with dinner. I'd expected wine; instead he brought Strongbow hard cider. It went perfectly with everything but the chocolate cake, and I had coffee for that.
Oh, and surprise 3: Sophie apparently loves my greens. Who'd have figured. There were some in a plate I'd put down and she scarfed them up with the rest of the leftovers. To see if she really like them, or just was cleaning the plate. I put a bit more of the greens down. Sure enough she ate them like she was starving (which she most definitely wasn't).

Happy Turkey Day Trippyville! Hope everybody's having a great night and spending it as stress-free as possible. We had a septic system alarm go off on Wednesday at 2am. We now had our tanks pumped and hope to have the pump issue resolved tomorrow. Was a crappy pre-Thanksgiving if'n ya know what I mean :D 2600 gallons worth of crappy and man am I glad I didn't have to get in there to help. Fairly clean operation when it's only 30 degrees. Not a job to do in August! Just hot back from our gathering in Ohio and time for cocktail now that my driving duties are completed.

Week, I was able to finish my pie when I got to my friends house. Came home and still out of power. But it seems my neighbors have it. So, I called national grid and they are sending a crew out some time tonight.

Hope they get you sorted out soon. Mine was only off for about 16 hours, enough for the temp in the house to drop to almost 40, but as of a couple hours ago the next town over was still almost totally blacked-out

I just got my power back on this morning at 0500. I was just starting to feel a bit depressed, then boom. It came back on. With my wood stoves, I had the temp up to 70 during the day and down to about 63 at night.

Morning all. Happy Black Friday!
Damselle, glad to hear you've got power back. And that you managed to stay warm.
Good luck to all of you braving today's madness. As for me, the only shopping I'm planning on is hitting the grocery store for an apple and some pecans so I can make Mom's turkey salad from yesterday's leftovers. Speaking of shopping, what do y'all think of the Russian v2?
