Tbev, Except for .22, I reload all my ammo, I could take the anvil and primer compound out of a live primer making it inert and seat them in brass for you, that would make the shells look like live ammo without a primer strike and be 100% safe in the case someone dropped it and the primer took a hit. If you would like a handful of those made up just send me the brass and I'd be happy to do them up for you, just shot me a PM. I can also do about any caliber you want if you have the brass.
And just for info, the base of some different calibers are the same size as a .45 ACP. For example you could cut the base off a 30-06 or .270 rifle brass at the same length as the 45 and should be able to use it in place of the 45 for your switch. The inside diameter would be a tad smaller because rifle brass has a taper (45 ACP is straight walled) and rifle brass is thicker at the base in order to handle the higher pressure but the OD of the head and even the extraction grove is identical to the 45.
A few years ago a buddy gave me six .45 ACP shells he found at the range that have the head stamp WILSON on them, my last name is Wilson. One of these days I'm going to load them up with inert primers for display rounds, in fact I think I'll finally do it tomorrow if the wife doesn't have any plans for me.
