I too was captivated by thoughts of modularity, but ultimately decided that I would rather down the coin for a new device rather than upgrade. That and the constant delays led me to cancel my batch one pre-order.

Yeah, same here. Once it was mid-september and the device was nowhere near completion, I cancelled my batch one pre-order.
I was really close to buying just as they were "released" but other things caught my eye and now I'm thankful I didn't.
The modularity thing sounded great in theory but then I thought again about the concept. Their aren't many things more modular than a modern PC. I built the one I'm using now about 2 or 3 years ago. It has an Intel 1155 socket for the CPU and since then there have been 1150, 1151, and I think one other format. Any upgrades at this time would involve a new motherboard.
Yes,the CPU socket is modular and an easy swap, but that doesn't mean you can get much use out of it.
evolv or Yihi wouldn't have any obligation to CM; either would design the best board they could even if that meant changing the physical size. Look at the difference between the DNA40 and the DNA200. I don't think there are any DNA40 mods that would contain the current board.
The early adopters gift is a custom engraved side panel haha. But you have to send it in. So this would be around $60 for me hihi. I am not in anyways, but I was in the smog debacle and then I ordered again with $100 off and cancelled the very next day. Don't do things drunk.. I am glad I am out currently and will see how this device turns out. But even for $100 I am not sure...

What could have been, I guess. Four freaking screws for $200.....nope. It looks like you could parallel park a tank in the gap of the usb port.

The magnets were replaced to add strength to the frame, lessen the likelihood of damage to the internals if it fell, and to simplify the manufacturing process.
It also makes it a lot easier to create add-ons because it's easier to create a screw hole vs magnets.

You don't advertise a feature then change it altering the whole look of the product and just expect people to be happy and go along with it. This has gone from a nice clean looking mod to a bit of a mess and still none in the hands of user's yet so at this point quality is up in the air but going by what's materialised so far hopes wouldn't be high. This had so much potential and would have flown off the shelves but has been probably the biggest disappointment in vaping not sure they can recover from this but time will tell.
Just got the approval for the chargeback via the visa insurance. So at least I am out without damage now and in case it turns out to be a nice mod, I can still get it with a $100 discount. phew.
OP here. This is a train wreck. Returnity is a nut job that ruined smog. Granted, smog was never a business man but Ian and his boys ruined this guy.
CMT was telling everyone on their reddit page that it was going to ship out of China last week 12/14. They just updated that it will leave China tomorrow, 12/22. lol. They keep digging a whole deeper and deeper.
