Hi Cloupor mini owners -- My CM is functioning well despite 501/atty gap and so on. A problem has developed though, which I'm hoping to get input on. The brass-colored bracket that holds the battery in place has bent/weakened, allowing the battery to shift and lose contact. I was able early on to bend the negative end of the bracket, restoring the tension needed between battery and pos/neg ends and that worked well for a while. Now though, I'm getting loss of tension more regularly such that I'm getting some play and losing connection. I also feel like I may be jacking up the black plastic and/or rubber housing around the negative bracket with my adjustments and may be headed for trouble in that regard. Any thoughts about perhaps fashioning a cardboard shim to hold the brass tab in place to maintain tension against the battery ... would that foul anything up? Any other solutions folks have found? My CM has performed great but I don't like potentially pushing it with intermittent battery contact... thanks for any input.

Wondering if the mod got dropped and the weight of the battery caved in the positive battery terminal.

The convex positive terminal 'button' is fixed so I don't see doing much to it unless the tray was removed. The negative terminal is where you can do just what you suggested- put something behind it that has some spring to it. Cardboard could work but you can probably come up w/something a little less likely to become loose again over time. Still a temporary fix unless you get lucky (or innovative), so a replacement battery traymay eventually be needed, and would be the better fix anyway.

If it were mine, I would try and replace that piece. Is that broken on the bend? It's the negative end so maybe find a spring or another piece of metal to attack to it??? A spring would fit in there nicely and work great too.

Thanks folks. Not able to post pics at the momment, not sure they'd provide any clarity. Cobalt's image shows what's up exactly -- negative terminal is compacted too much to hold battery in place firmly. I did check that the positive is not caved in, and yes, I dropped it once or twice. I've cut a promising looking section of wooden toothpick and inserted it under the negative terminal tab so that it slightly raises and reiniforces it, sliding it far enough "up" towards the where the battery cover attaches so that it doesn't interfere with the brass plate that lies beneath. I found that it was possible to place the shim in a place that keeps the brass tab more rigid but still able to flex, so that I'm not needing the shim itself to give or flex The battery now clicks into place with some resistance and fires ok. Oh, I also thought the nipple top battery suggestion was great, haven't tried it. I'm not inclined to look around for replacement parts for a $25 device, so I'll monitor this fix and remain on the lookout for a device that is
- size comparable to CMini -- hard to find esp with
- user replalcable battery
- spring loaded pin inc flush attys
- kanthal temp control a plus

Don't throw it away. It can be fixed easily. I'm looking for another mod myself. Love the size of the Mini.

What other mods out there that are similar to the Mini? I want to get another box mod that is about the same size, price and power as the Cloupor Mini. I don't like ones that have a built in battery.

The new Kanger Subox Mini 50W might fit the bill. Most vendors are offering it now (some still on pre-sale) bundled with a matching Kanger Subtank Mini for around $45-50, depending on the vendor, coupons, etc., but the mod alone is beginning to show up for $25-30. Uses one user-installed high-drain 18650 (Samsung 25R, LG HE2/4, etc.) and has a quick-change magnet-secured battery door. I don't know of any 30W or higher regulated boxes that are as small as the Cloupor Mini, but the Kanger Subox is not bigger by much and has a nice rounded-corners ergonomic feel. Handsome designs---either black ceramic coating with red buttons or accents or "Star-Wars-Storm-Trooper refrigerator white ceramic coating with black buttons and accents.

Perhaps you can use one of these...

KEYSTONE - 80 - BATTERY CLIP

Other options are to remove clip from old remote controls you no longer use or battery operated products such as toys.

Unsolder your old connection on the negative side and solder your new clip to that wire. Use a hot glue gun to secure the new clip in place.

Hope it helps.. Good luck!

Don't have one yet, but looking at this pic, but could one maybe just put an actual spring under there? They're really easy to make.

I'm thinking this tab on the negative side is the problem since the positive is a fixed tab.

One I thought about was the Sigelei Mini. Anyone try that one?

I've got an interesting 'issue' with my CM. not the end of the world but after a few weeks of having it, to use the + button I have to depress it on the edge facing the - button in order for the to function. I think it got pressed too hard while in a bag on a plane. Has anyone else had this happen?
How difficult is it to get into where the chip is? Figure I could probably pop everything back into place but I don't want to damage my unit as it's not that big of a deal.
