My friend just dropped off 10 protank coils, he said they were burnt out. I normally clean mine once in a while with some isopropyl alcohol and they tend to work fine.

My question is, do you think he actually burnt them or would soaking them in iso fix the problem? I am asking before I drive to the store and waste my time.

He vapes them until it "tastes burnt," but he has never cleaned them.

I like boiling in distilled water because it helps clean out the stronger flavored juices from the wicks.

At this point, I don't do much cleaning now as I'm rebuilding the Protank heads. If I'm going to put the time in to properly clean them, might as well just rebuild with a fresh coil and wick.

The burnt taste might depend on the conditions of the wick too. If coils still seem good, you could try to just slip a new wick through them by using a needle, after having cleaned them with alcohol and water.
Talking about coils, I alway just trashed mine without even trying to recover them if they gave me the slightest suspicion for metal degradation.
Anyway advise your friend to switch to rebuildable atoms, he'd save a lot of money on the long term and he'd have something of a much higher quality.

I just rinse with hot water, then blow on it like how people get hot soup could, dry burn, and then blow on it again. Usually works fine. Yesterday at work I just dry burn it without rinsing and at all due to time restraints and it worked pretty good in a pinch.

I rebuild of course and there is a lot of satisfaction in that. I know that replacement heads are cheap but in say a years time the savings add up at least to warrant a steak dinner or two.

I rebuild with silica for my evods that I use for work. My protanks I use microcoils and mesh. I call them my sleepers like those street cars that look stock and boring but there is something special under the hood.
