One word: that much of an advantage?

Probably not. You ever check out coil porn on Reddit?

http://www.reddit.com/r/coilporn

99% of these function identically to their equal-ohmed standard-coil counterparts. They just look cool. My thoughts? Not worth the effort. If I'm rebuilding my coil I want it done in five minutes, lest I be forced to bear the pains of not vaping whilst I build my fancy coils.

The FIRST one takes hours...after that, not so much

Curious, do you mean the first one someone makes or the first one on the linked page?

Cause I spent every second between my last post and this one making a Clapton coil, 28G wrapped around 22G. Apparently my ohm reader is broken, so I'm afraid to run a dual, but I'm not impressed with the single. I do believe, however, that a dual coil of the same wrap would be awesome. Doubt I'd be able to fit two through my Mutation's center post, though. Might have to grab some 32G so it's a bit thinner in diameter. I'd post pics but I'm in bed.

I dunno why someone would care how many wraps they or anyone else has on their coils really. Vape what you like. Nothin' wrong with twisted though. I greatly prefer twisted wire. Wouldn't bother with that clapton coil stuff or whatever but I love me some twisted wire, sub ohm or not, it produces hellacious flavor (YMMV)

Not everyone sub ohms and shouldn't be criticized how many wraps their coils have.

Gil, if this was because of my last few comments on your coils, I apologize as I meant no disrespect... Was just ribbing you man. You are correct that not everyone subΩ's, and to each his own... You do have some pretty good looking coils there though my friend...

Heck no bud as a matter of fact I was glad you point my coils out . I was commenting on what seems to be a race on how few wraps and how low sub ohm coils is everyone's holy grail. My point it's not for everyone. Lord knows the fewest wraps for a coil challenged person like me would be better. :) Personally I don't like the heat nor do I chase big vapor that sub ohm & dual coils provide but if that is what someone likes then great and I do like seeing and reading about them.

Sorry, the first time you fumble around making one.

The Clapton coil and the other funky ones are refinements on twisted wire. I've got some I haven't had time to mess with lately but you can be sure when I do, you'll be the first to see and try them out [emoji4]

I know what they are, I've watched some vids out of curiosity - just not interested per se. If ya send me somethin I'd try it out but the reviews on Claptons are pretty bleh. I love my simple dual twisted 29 or 30g builds, also plain ol' 26g nontwisted duals are hellacious in the right atty (Nuppin KILLS IT with such a simple build)

edit - in fact I'm vaping a simple dual 26g nontwisted in an Odin right now and it's amazing as well. Not quite the fullness of flavor of the Nuppin, or of twisted 29 in the Odin, but hey for a 5 minute build it rocks. I need to get to the lab and twist me some more builds but I'm so busy lately and Chrissy's leaving in a week so spending my free time with her as much as possible this week :)

Simple works for me. These coils I have posted pics of were made more to see if I could. Most I can't even use on the RM2 because of the post hole. I have a couple drippers modded to BFers that I test them on with the Vamo but they are patiently waiting for Rob's next sale of LPs mods.

Hey unsure, I'm unsure (giggle giggle) who you were referring to when mentioning being scrutinized for a high number of wraps, but I always say that all that matters is that you are happy with your vape. Vaping is a very, very personalized hobby. Everyone's different, and that's okay. When I share my super low builds, they usually include a disclaimer telling people not to replicate them, because the vast majority of vapers do not enjoy builds that low. I only share them for the same reason anyone posts pictures of their builds, or new mods, or new drip tips; because we are excited about what we're doing with our Reos, and want to share it with the community.

TL;DR? The only opinion that matters is your own.

Just built some more stove top coils for my rm5, .22 ohms. 24g 4 wraps around 1/16 rod. (My meter reads to the thousands) this build is a very hot vape, but produces some of the best flavor I've ever had out of my rm5.

This is my cyclone build I'm currently vaping on. Single twisted 28g 6 wraps on a 1/16 rod, .5 ohm coil.

Slow day at work so I went and twisted up some 29g and rebuilt one of my Odins. 6 wraps around the 2nd smallest mandrel of the Holy Gizmo, netting .34 ohms. This is the lowest I've ever built, and it hits harder than i'm used to. I may lower the coils a hair more later on because it packs more of a punch than I really care for honestly - BUT the flavor is out of this world. I think the trick for my Odins is to build a little lower than I do for the Nuppin, brings the warmth and flavor out more.

Let's see the stove top coils wicked!

Ok, so I don't build this often, but when I do I usually wick like this. Once the wick is saturated, it's easier to form and get to hold in place. Rayon fibers are ran between the stove top and the post started at the bottom and wrapped around one side and down the other back to where I started. Once you juice your wick you can tuck more of the wick up behind the bottom of the coil using a small screwdriver or a toothpick. I also make sure not to cover the hole in the center of the coil with any wick.

Ok so it's not letting me upload my pics, let me try some else and if it works I'll edit this post.
