    'flavor' ??

IMHO: coil 'size' is fairly dependent on the atomizer used and where/how incoming air is directed towards it.

There is a school of thought that the less 'open space' in a chamber the better the flavor and another where smaller chambers are more flavorful then larger ones.

The 'exotic coil' folks might argue that the 'burst' of juice vaporized off their coils (wicked into the multitude of surfaces & crevesses on them) provide much of their flavor.

The Temperature Regulated vapers might argue that depending on the juice flavor might need/require a different temperature for the best vaping experience.

In all, it comes down to coil surface area and temperature for volume of vapor produced.

    YMMV.

It depends on the style of vaping you prefer, the mods you use, the power you use, the juice flavors you use, even your choice of wire material/cotton plays a role. This question is too open-ended to give any kind of real answer. So in general IMHO a basic coil of round wire is what I consider a baseline. Its fine in a pinch, works great for testing a juice you aren't sure of, but it will never be the "most flavorful".

What can I use to get away from wire to use on MTL tanks?

What tank are you using? Not all coils will fit in every deck so it would really help to know that.

What style of vaping do you prefer? Hot or cool vapor, mtl, rdl, or dtl? Not all tanks are universal, and if you have one meant for mtl, the airflow probably won't be enough for a low resistance coil.

With nothing else to go on I would probably recommend just trying a simple twisted coil. You won't need to buy any other wire and you can make one in minutes if you have a handy coffee cup.
