Can i use 34ga stainless steel wire to make a atty coil. is it safe to use. I tried 7 loops and worked OK. Resistance a little low, but worked.
on my part for sure. I was one of "those guys"I only use Kanthal from Temco. Not interested in any other wire.. silver? Dont know or care to try it. sorry.
Some attys use stainless steel mesh, so I tried the 34ga wire and it worked, started with 7 loops and got a resistance of 1.72. did not want to proceed until l find out if its OK to use.

Nichrome and Kanthal wire are also metal. Stainless is a little more stronger, but workable. Got the stainless steel wire at AC more crafts.
AC More is a CRAFT store. That is craft wire (like, for making jewelry or art, or whatever). PLEASE do NOT use it for coils. It is not designed for that. It is not made out of the type of material designed to run ELECTRICITY through it. Please, stop....This is coming from a place of love (as a mother) to prevent you from hurting yourself.SS mesh (oxided) is used for WICKING, not for the heating element. Kanthal A-1 and NiChrome are the suitable choices for coil making. Kanthal and Nichrome are designed for this application, so they should be used for this application. 34ga (regardless of the ingredient) is VERY thin as well, and is easily damaged. No one needs a coil breaking mid firing.
As an example, you can use different types of oil to deep fry food but certain ones have different temperatures that they degrade at so using one will give you great results while others will smoke endlessly and will ruin what you are trying to make.
Well, if stainless will heat up enough, and stainless is used for wicking (which can get very hot) I don't see why stainless couldn't be used for coils. Of course, there are many different types of stainless, with different properties (for example, most are non-magnetic, but not all!) and with different ingredients....... It's certainly an interesting question. Also, even though stainless wire would be thinner, I also believe it's considerably stronger, and might actually last longer than a nichrome or kanthal coil.
Interesting topic!
