Well, I, for one never asked for pics of the batteries and still call BS on your claim of the APV exploding.... I stand by my original comment that it didn't happen.... There is not a company in the world that would sue you for their APV blowing up!!!! That is pure fascination on your part..... If it were me, I would provide the pics of the mod out of fear that I would be sued by the APV manufacturer for being slandered, hence is why I mentioned you might want to keep that lawyer retained.... Do you honestly think they aren't going to be hurt, (sales wise), over your unresponsible comment? If I were the vendor, I would've contacted my attorney first thing Monday morning....

Ok just a few things wrong with your post. I never claimed the APV exploded. I said the batteries exploded inside the APV. The company I COULD have been sued by is the battery company for posting that there batteries were defective. Which they were not. They were used in an application they were not designed for. As for being sued for slander..... will not happen. For the most obvious reason, Slander is spoken and libel is written. Mike could try to sue me for libel, but again that would be tough. I never said his APV exploded I have repeatedly said the BATTERIES EXPLODED while being used in an inappropriate manner. So I am pretty confident I have not slandered anyone in this statement.

Boy, you have really thought this thru for someone who posted and then decided its prob a good idea to seek counsel. Now you sound like the lawyer.
And just for the record, I am the first one who said we should sue you for slandering our rep as a community. We have enough trouble dealing w those who cant/wont distinguish us from the smokers. Now everyone is going to be like "get away from me w that bomb"!!!
I know your not the only one who this happened to, but all of a sudden you seem educated enough to know better and do a little research.

Hi Thundercats,
I am wondering if you could help us learn about what happens when the wrong batteries are used. First were these rechargeable batteries that were not protected and if not what type were they? You don't have to name company just type and size, volt.
Also what happened when you first hit the button, did you feel heat immediately or did it take a couple hits to over heat? Did you hear a hiss before it exploded? I'd like to learn about how much time before the bang and venting happened. I think our most important issue here is learning from you what happens when things go wrong.

I also want to know if support battery education so every user knows the dangers of what batteries to use and why and do you think it needs to come with every tube mod for user safety?

Thanks for answering :) bnrk

I haven't been following the discussion, but I just wanted to add my two cents. Many seem to be angry at the man who is suing. I can understand; none of us want our freedom to use our PV threatened. At the same time, it's not exactly general knowledge that certain types of batteries can explode. Yes, many vendor sites mention using protected batteries, but honestly, it wasn't until my nephew got into RC cars last year that I even knew how dangerous something so small can actually be. He had a special bag for recharging his batteries and I asked why. That means I've gone most of my life without thinking about the possibility of small, store-bought batteries exploding. Call me an idiot if you want, but I imagine most people out there are like me and I agree with one of the previous posters who stated vendors should include the proper batteries with the mods they sell.

You would have to read this thread from days ago to understand where the heat is coming from. No pun intended. I also went most of my life w/o knowing the dangers associated w batts. It took vaping to educate me. Thank you for your contribution, I needed to slow down b4 my keyboard breaks.;)

Sadly with pv or apv there always going to be danger i guess ; take it as a gamble sometimes you win sometimes you dont :) take it easy always respect what your doing and hope for the best but dont turn to a freak about it...

I certainly hope not, because if the manufacturers, vendors, and the community as a whole do not get this under control soon, we will be outright banned, and none of us want that.

Exactly! I only started learning myself by doing extensive searching of ECF and other battery sites to learn about these batteries we use. On this AW dealers post AW's LiIon Batteries Sales Thread *Part 10* he warns of:DO NOT use LiIon batteries if you don't know the dangers about them and how to handle them. The battery dealers know this and warn us, so vendors also need to warn users just the same. It should be mandatory a warning comes with all tube mods/APV's about battery safety. It is not unreasonable, but necessary to teach everyone safe handling. bnrk

PS Above link is from Jay at GLV who is very good at telling people about using only protected batts and venting his product for safety.

Because the APV is not at fault in this situation. The picture posted could be very easily used in an unfavorable way. If Mike would want the APV for testing purposes, I would not have a problem with that. I will NOT post pictures of a scorched APV in an open area of a public forum.

Where are you seeing that its more dangerous than anything else . I see lots of people going overboard personally which is whats gonna lead it to being banned without any real numbers to show for it . Making a big deal over a small deal looks bad to the public . Newer people get scared and start posting all over how dangerous it is right away because they were told that. As much as i research i fail to see any large number of failures. Just because theres failures dont put it into the overall dangerous category. All thats needed imo is for people to be told to use mods correctly.

America might as well ban everything on earth if one failure is too many because 99.9% of all products in any industry would be unsafe if that were the case.Anything can be misused a cause injury. Shooting for 0 is a joke imo because its not going to happen no matter what you do to mods.

We need to educate about battery safety first. Anyone can buy batteries, anyone can buy or make a tube mod and pop batteries in them. Problem is no one using a tube mod should "think" it is ok to go buy non rechargeable batteries and stack them in a tube mod not vented properly. But we do have people that do that because they are not told not to do that. As an industry, even tho it is mostly cottage, we have a responsibility to educate our friends and family who might go out and buy the wrong batt just because it is cheaper and end up frying their APV or themselves. We have to at least educate against that. All batts can fail, BUT some batts are a 100% (non rechargeable unprotected) fail in the wrong set up. It will go boom! We do not want that to ever happen again.
To me it is like warning people to never talk on a cell phone while plugged into a wall charger because it can explode and kill you. It did happen and people still use cell phones, but best to do it safely. We just want safety warnings. bnrk

What makes this look bad to the public is having stories about exploding cigarettes appearing in print.
Us talking about how to lessen the occurrence of it happening is not the problem, it is the answer to the problem.

Newer people get scared and start posting all over how dangerous it is right away because they were told that.

So you want to tell them how to use them correctly without telling them why they need to use them correctly?

After doing alot of reading i had the misunderstanding that with the "built in" protection of the buzz pro it would be "impossible" for the batteries to explode. I bought batteries off of e-bay that were unprotected, because they were alot cheaper. WRONG ANSWER!!! I charged up the batteries and got about 3 hits before the tube started getting EXTREMELY hot. I dropped the buzz immediately. When it landed in the grass I could hear a slight hissing sound. Thats when the batteries totally failed. It sounded like a M-80 going off. Both end caps blew off and the tube split from the bottom edge up to one of the vent holes. As I said I am VERY lucky I noticed the warmth of the tube and got it out of my hand quickly. I am really glad it wasn't in my pocket when it happened.

That sentance you wrote would make me think the APV blew up..... Your words, not mine.....

Ok just a few things wrong with your post. I never claimed the APV exploded. I said the BATTERIES exploded inside the APV.

Again, you said both end caps blew off the APV..... Your words, not mine..... Libel is just a written equivalent of something you said.... Same difference.....

Because the APV is not at fault in this situation. The picture posted could be very easily used in an unfavorable way. If Mike would want the APV for testing purposes, I would not have a problem with that. I will NOT post pictures of a scorched APV in an open area of a public forum.

The picture could very easily clear up all the BS you have been trying to cover up..... Again I call BS when its BS...... Just fess up to trying to cause a stir in this forum, which by the way is about someone that actually had an APV that failed due to using the wrong batteries.... I feel very sorry for the couple this happened to, but also feel if you are going to step up to an APV, you should be very educated about it prior to using it..... That is why they are an APV and not a standard ecig.....

Thundercats situation would not of occured if he new which batts were proper. If there was a leaflet in the APV when he opened it he would of avoided this situation.

One has to be aware there is something they need to educate themselves on before they can educate themselves on it.
The point some of us are trying to make is that the average person thinks if the battery fits and it turns on the education is done.

Some people seem to think only stupid people could not know batteries can blow up.
And anyone who thinks that is wrong.
