All of these standards should make the Obama administration happy. ISO compliance, ASTM, ASQC, UL, SAE, SME, initially providing voluntary recommendations and guidance are now used by the Washington political machine to just drive up costs.
No manufacturer, or small business reseller will intentionally produce and distribute a known bad product just to increase profit margins. Trim the waste and industry will prosper.
Maybe after the election we can get back to letting manufacturers just "do the right thing" without all of these costly bureaucratic controls and government sponsored (with my tax dollars) "standards".

This isn't political, it is about safety for our industry. We don't want anymore lawsuits, we don't want anymore exploding units in peoples faces because they do NOT know about what battery to use. We want acceptance for our ecigs, not more bad press because people have no clue about batteries. Right now it takes alot of digging and searching to learn about batteries, I know because I was learning on my own & had to go all over ECF and batteries pages to learn. We need to get the word out and the truth about LiIon batteries and the difference between them and non rechargeable lithium so users can make wise decisions. Any mod without a batt in it is as safe as can be, but put a batt or batts in there and you better know what you are doing and using. Educate is the answer. We can't sit back and call everyone stupid if they never knew about batteries, how and where are they supposed to learn this if we don't teach them?? I think we need a sticky called Batteries 101- must read before using any ecig or APV.

I was thinking, if every APV sold had something like this taped to the tube, it would help alot:

"BATTERY WARNING- Only use battery xxxxx in this APV and required XXXX charger for recharging these batteries. Never use non rechargeable batteries, They are unsafe and may explode! Always use safe handling for all LiIon rechargeable batteries see XXXX for more info. After charging, let your batteries rest xxx amount of time before use. When using your APV do your first 3-4 second button push away from your face. Always remove batteries when your APV is not in use. Always buy replacement batteries from an approved dealer so you get the highest quality and not counterfeit."

would anyone be offended if this was taped to every tube mod/APV sold??? Do you think it would help? bnrk

Great suggestion. I'm battery challenged, but fortunately not adventurous until I know what I don't know, I tend to err on the side of extreme caution. I've bought/gotten a few mods - with no enclosed info. Since batteries are crucial to our mods and the use and care of correct batteries are 'need-to-know', your suggestion (and the wording of the heading) would get the attention of and inform the largest segment of this forum. I'm not a fan of non-replaceable batteries, but, to protect consumers and mod manufacturers, I'd like to see warning notices included with every mod sold. It wouldn't have to be WARNING in big, red letters - just information about what batteries are recommended and some info about the proper care of batteries. I've learned what little I know about batteries from informed posts on this forum. So thank you, everyone who takes the time and effort to educate me.

I'm not sure if there's any particular right/necessary amount of time to have batteries out of the charger before using them. Likewise whether 3 or 4 presses are important, vs. perhaps just first press after changing batteries or atty/carto. Removing batteries is a question, I'm not about to do that unless it's a long term storage kind of scenario.

Resting batteries- the reason to rest them is they come off the charger at their highest volt, if you rest them they drop down some to a safer level. Most problems with batts have happened right off the charger when they are at their highest v. Recommendations are resting them over night off charge. This is what I now do. I always do the 3-4 sec button push away from face for all newly charged rested batts, new carto as well. bnrk

I'm kind of mixed yea the dude screwed up with batteries but then the mod failed to vent properly.

Then on the other hand it's not UL rated.

They are going in the line of false advertising as well.

I'm not even going to get started on the failure to warn part. I mean really if your that ... stupid to not read directions your S.O.L. Lawyers and they fail to warn let me tell you something WARNING ANYTHING YOU DO CAN HURT YOU>>> DUH.... we don't need ... labels all over the ... WORLD....

Um what exactly are you saying here , from what we do know the MOD did exactly what it was supposed to do ! " contain the gasses and not explode ! " ans that is what we are told it did so ???

And what is this about false advertising ??

Look I know you are NEW but try to use some common sense man . Or we may have to put a label on you.

The sad fact is that we could put all kinds of info in the BOX or tube ( and we do ) and people will NOT read it !!! I get questions all the time that are very clearly stated on the manual !!!! right UP FRONT .

Many People just do NOT read directions.

That is why I was thinking tape it to the tube body, wrap around so they have to fiddle with it to get it off :) The red letters of never use non rechargeable batteries will catch their eye. If that is the only thing they read fabulous! That is where most problems occur, using non rechargable lithium.

Actually I have 3 tube mods/APV's, none of them arrived with a battery safey note and none came with user manuals. None came with charger safety, the one did have a small note to go download manual at website. I do not feel this is acceptable for any tube mod to be sold without any instructions. I do not have a Buzz so don't know what goes out with your product. bnrk
