Well i figured it was coming, living and working out in BFE, the new policy by the company I work for decided that ecigs are the same as cigarettes and I cannot use the inside. I have had no problem with others until this point. just frustrating, knowing I am being singled out (I am currently the only ecig user in the whole company.

I think its a conformity thing, the higher ups / Human Resources would rather not deal with the possible outcry of smokers and the "well why does she/it/they/he get to do something "special" that we can't" ??

Just a thought....

Their mindset is conformity for prosperity, so if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck.....

I think it was allot to do with the industry i work in. I work in the food industry, a cold storage, and our attached sister company processes frozen veggies. I can see there stance for not using it anywhere near the production floor but in an office that doesn't even have an attached ventilation system I think is ridiculous. not to mention many people I work with are very uneducated and cannot even get the concept of what water vapor is. Oh well it is a job, been working there 3 years, vaping inside for 2, change for the bad but they are not forcing me to stand in the smoking area, so that is a plus.

I got one even better for ya. My 2nd job, when they instituted their smoke free campus policy, included e cigs. That means I can't use it ON THE PROPERTY. And we are only allowed to leave the property for our 30 min lunch. Luckily, 2 of the 3 people I sit in my little room with all night I don't think will care. If I work with the 3rd, I will vape in the bathroom and they can kiss my lily white... well, you know the rest. ;)

I think it has everything to do with not wanting to make the non-smokers upset. It is easier to just say we won't allow it.

I know it sucks but just realize 99.9% of the general public have no idea what these e-cigs are about and probably a similar percentage have no interest in learning. Just have to be respectful regardless.

While I agree that we need to be respectful I just wish it would go both ways. I'm tired of going out of my way to treat others well and be treated like scum.

CASAA has a nice document regarding smoke-free policies and pvs.

You can get it here.

Easy to point-out to employers that allowing/encouraging vaping could improve bottom line:

  • "What would this place be like if you imposed a 'no caffeine use' policy?"

  • "What if your smokers weren't thinking about their next cig?"
  • "What if your smokers became ex-smokers?"

on and on...

[just a note: regardless of industry/working environment, I assume everyone is exhaling something :p]

Yeah... So that sucks. Lumping it in with analog cigarettes is as ridiculous as categorizing inhalers with them as well. Vapor puff, inhale via mouth for dosing... For places where I suspect arguments from an ignorant party, I generally stealth vape... hold it casually near my mouth, almost not paying it any attention, as though it were a pen I were chewing, and hold it in until there's hardly any vapor, and exhale tiny amounts at a time to ensure there isn't any. This is how I survived the symphony and airplanes without a single double-take. It was perfect! the "duck down to tie my shoe/pick something up/unplug my phone" is always a good escape, but the bathroom is the good standby. Really, if they can't tell if you vaped in the stairwell, how close to cigarettes can they be?

My wish for the future is for employers to do the math on the amount of time spent now indoors and not on smoke breaks, with productive employees, and healthier, easier-breathing ones at that! I calculated myself at spending about 2 hours a day doing nothing but smoking before. The amount of work I get done now is insane, because I'm not flip flopping between nic fits which are hardly productive, or breaks, which are worse.

Think of us as the trailblazers of a movement, that someday will be accepted and widespread, rather than "huh?!?!"

I'm a disability support worker - usually I'll vape away from clients/staff until I know the staff better, then I just explain how it works and it's smooth sailing. Never been pulled up on it yet.

Hell, most of the people who see it are just plain fascinated by it.

I don't bother with management - just not worth the brain damage. Worst comes to it, bathroom always does the trick!

And one of the bonuses of vaping - you certainly can't smoke in a work vehicle, especially if there are clients on-board...vaping, on the other hand...

Win.

I actually didn't even know about ecigs or vaping until our company HR director sent out an email saying that vaping is now allowed onsite in any areas except production floors. Since I'm a Control Room operator in an office like building I'm allowed to vape at my workstation all day or night long. I haven't had an analog since 7/1/11 As far as I know, I'm the only vaper in the whole plant :p
