Correct.....
The provari is a VV device, you set the voltage and depending on the atomizer resistance you get a specific wattage (assuming ohms law hasn't been broken recently)

The darwin is a VP device, you set the wattage and based on the atomizer resistance it automatically adjusts the voltage to get that wattage.

Am I understanding this correctly?

Yes

Some feel VP is better because if you switch atty's of different ohm ratings the VP will adjust to give you the same wattage. IMO it isn't as easy as that.

Example

I vape 3-3.5ohm fluxes at about 4.2-4.5 volts If I switched to lets say a 2.5 ohm carto I would crank the voltage to 6v to get same quality of vape as the higher resistance flux. If wattage meant everything then I should have to lower voltage with the lower ohm carto to match the wattage but actually I need to increase it. Also switching between 2 atty's of exact resistance many times they perform differently even at same wattage.

In theory VP would be better than VV but in practice I have found it is worthless. IMO adjusting by display or wattage is worthless. I adjust to quality of vape no matter what the display say's.

Just my :2c:

@ambientech - agreed in the end it is about the quality of the vape and the tastebuds are the final judge. With that said your logic above seems to be mixing the rules of physics and ohm law. Here is a nice calculator that you can plug voltage, resistance, amps etc in to see what happens when you change lets say a resistannce value and a voltage value and the result on watts.

Just to weigh in. Darwin has exceeded my expectations in all areas; it's actually fun to vape with this mod. Well constructed, much more solid than I expected. Perfect hits and flavor each time. Much more comfortable than I expected in the hand and love the dial. As for my ProVari, it's not going anywhere either. User friendly, beautiful, easy to use, solid construction. They are the perfect balance as the ProVari is great for tanks and cartos and the Darwin is wonderful for dripping/cartos/atomizers including 306 and lr. The features are diffent but each mod is excellent in it's own right.

They are both outstanding mods backed by excellent vendors who stand behind their product. I think that anyone who purchases a Darwin or ProVari will be impressed.

I totally understand ohms law. I use it daily for work. Problem is there are other variables involved. Is the coil at the bottom,at the top, in-bedded in filler material, quality control, juice used etc. etc. Wattage is only one variable physics is another and both can drastically change the experience.

I do have a provari but am planning on getting a Darwin just for the geek in me
