thats why we didnt mention it right away until posters said they had them with the new cone, not all came with new cone head so until all orders where arriving with them we didnt want to make a hoopla about it.

I can completely understand that :) I just find it ROFLMAO hilarious (and I mean this in sincerity, no sarcasm at all) that the hands shaking crazy person (ME) who if I'm not mistaken was even the first person to mention in these forums that I'd canted over my air tube and caused leaking, didn't get them. But some die hard rebuilders who have concerns did. Really and truly giggling in the room all by myself I tell you :D

Gah. Your luck seems to run about the same as mine. I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs with Stardusts in my cart - and my paycheck is late on this week of all weeks. Meanwhile the Stardusts are disappearing with frightening speed. Two hundred or so went away since last time I checked. I can't stand the suspense, cones or no cones.

I missed this thread and the whole conehead brouhaha! My latest video is about easily taking apart a Stardust without hammer, clamps, etc. (though you do need a some sort of large pliers). It really makes it easy, though I haven't tried it on a conehead version (because I don't have any coneheads). Can anyone confirm this method works okay with that version?

Being able to screw off the skirt would be a HUGE improvement on how to clean the Stardust. I don't mean some fancy schmancy way to screw on the tank. Just put some threads on the skirt to allow us to take it off and then pop off the tank.

Alternatively, just developing some inexpensive tool we could buy that lets us pop the tanks on and off (new market!) would be nice as well. Honestly, my use of Stardusts really diminished, the harder it was to get the tanks off, because I maintain that taking it apart for washing, airing out and dry burning is the BEST method to clean these. The easier and more convenient it is, the more popular they will become!

Coneheads brings back fond memories of the old SNL!

It shouldn't affect your method at all. The cone is just a modified version of the metal washer thingy in the seal.

What it will affect is pressing the innards out with a press or vise (or even the dreaded hammer). You either need to use a rod with a hollow end to fit over the cone, or take it out. I use a 5/32" nut driver and it fits over the cone perfectly.

I used your latest method of taking the bottom ring off first on one with a conehead. I had a little trouble getting the ring off but it was easy after that. The top metal part is basically the washer with a point on top that sits under the silicone cap like the old washer did

I wrapped my pliers in electrical tape, but couldn't get a good grip. I then used bare pliers, they left small marks.

I need to get some soft grip parallel pliers, then they will come out with screw on bases. I checked local hardware stores and couldn't find any.

I think good ole masking tape has a more textured surface that helps with gripping as opposed to electrical tape which is pretty slick.

Your probably right, but around 11pm last night I found my electrical tape first. :) I'm pretty sure the bottom band on mine is plastic.

In the future I'll get new pliers or tape with more grip. Mainly it was time to clean one & wanted to see if I could take apart the newer ones.

Btw- thanks for your videos. You probably saved me from a trip to the local ER.
